Agreed; though let me say, the "Dad sacrifice" one brought a tear to my eye.  My step son and daughter both do NOT like the end pieces.  I can't tell you how many sandwiches I've eaten that look exactly like that, and I don't say anything, but secretly hope that I'm moving the cosmic needle in some minor way!

Funny how it's the same here, I'm the one that finishes those end pieces at my house. No one likes them and they just throw it and I'm like WHY?! I don't mind them honestly, don't think it's a big deal. I sometimes, depending on how thick the outer crust is, sneak one end piece when making my daughter's sandwich and just give it to her, she never notices that one is an end slice.

Protip... use them as grilled cheese - or grilled anything.  But yeah, I'm the only one that eats the end slices in the jingle.household.

That's actually the best way for me too.  I like toasting my peanut butter bread, and the end pieces are perfect for that.

It's amazing what you, as parents, can get away with regarding your kids.  I always told my kids that the end pieces were the "special pieces" because they had all that extra flavor.  They had no problem eating sandwiches made with the end pieces, and they always ate crusts and everything because of the extra flavor in the crusts.  Anything I thought might pose a potential issue, I'd tell them ahead of time how it was "special".  I don't know why that was the magic word, but it worked.

My wife's mom would just invert an end piece, so at first glance it looked like a regular piece.  And in her family, you just ate what mom gave you.  There was no argument.
