Oh man I always forget about On the Plane. I guess it's just a really forgettable song, definitely the weakest on the album.

Eh, uh, oh boy.  I'm on Far Away, and this isn't working.  Glass House isn't their best song, but a really nice opener.  From there, nothing's hit me.  Far Away's barely good enough to keep me going.

Blood and Zigota are pretty good, as is DNA. So atleast try those out.

Meh.  This really isn't the level of quality I expected.  I thought Aviv Geffen writing all the songs might be interesting, but it ended up not working.  The lack of Steve Wilson influence is really clear.  Wilson tends to write tighter stuff musically.  There were a couple moments where things felt genuinely disorganized a bit.  Glass House and Oxygen are the only ones that really stand out.

So, listened to it again, and I agree with ReaP in that the lack of SW is really apparent.  However, there are some gems on the album: Waving, Zigota, Far Away, Oxygen, and DNA.

Yeah, I'd still say the ones with heavy SW influence on the album are the best... Waving, any of the guitar solos, and even though Aviv wrote Zigota the time changes at the end scream SW to me.

Listen to it more, some of the other songs are amazing.

And regarding your point about SW influence, this has already been discussed but he wrote very little on the other albums as well. Blaming that for you liking the album less is a bit of a cop out to be honest.

I'm too busy listening to 'Once' on repeat to listen to their new album as much as I was, it's good but not incredible, some good songs on there however.

Does anyone else thinks Steven Wilson sounds a LOT like Phil Collins in late 70s Genesis for the first half of "Far Away?"  Especially the chorus, the way he sings "To put my smile on" just sounds like Phil.  Obviously its because all English vocalists sound the same, right? :neverusethis:

EDIT: Okay, I've listened to this album at least once a day since I got it and its a good album.  Not as great as the first two, but they should be proud of it.  Except "Go To Hell."  Surely Aviv could have found a better way to express his anger, hate, etc. at his parents.

I really fell in love with the live version of that song.  The album version is . . . too sterile?  The tempo is a touch slower on the album as well, which keeps it a bit more mellow.

New album is pretty darn great, I'd rank it over the second album but just below the first one.
The lyrics in 'Go to Hell' really is the only 'lowpoint', and it's a bit disappointing seeing as the music behind it is so good.
Far Away is my favorite, followed by Oxygen and Waving.  :heart

Just got DNA and I'm giving it a listen now.

Edit: Go to Hell would be light years better if there was different lyrics.  I loves the chordal changes in the chorus but damn those lyrics.....

Considering I think the first two are average at best, the comments here have persuaded me to forget about this one for awhile. Until like I really need to buy a new record and nothing is out.

But if people love the first two and you think they are "average at best", then why would you trust their opinion on the new one? Obviously you have different tastes.

Personally, I think the third album is more consistent than the other albums, but the high points on DNA aren't as high as the high points on the first two albums.

It's still great how this sideproject has 3 albums, all which are so great.
Most people seem to prefer BFII, though I personally prefer the first album.
DNA is really good as well, and as I said earlier it would rank in higher then BFII but lower then BFI for me.

BF > DNA > BFII for me, even though my favorite BF songs are on BFII. It's kinda weird I guess. I'm just not a fan of Aviv's songs on that album.
