They did that twice, once was the Chopin at the end of United States, and also the Saint-Saens in the middle of I Belong To You. Both were credited fairly enough so I don't see any problem with it. Whereas in the past they've written segments that sound pretty much identical to composers like Rachmaninov but not credited those composers.

My second least favourite song on TR, guiding light being the only worse song.

that bass in the chorus really gets on my nerves.

Bizarre video though :)

also, does he want to just end up with a single drum in a couple of albums time or something? Small kits look so stupid.

It's funny how much can opinions differ for example I think that song and that chorus specifically and actually even the bass there is one of the best moments on album :lol

I think the biggest problem with this CD is the middle of it.  The first four and last four songs are all good, but the middle three are rather meh.  "Guiding Light" and "MK Ultra" are both pretty forgettable, and "Unnatural Selection" should have stayed an ass-kicking rocker from start to finish, instead of slowing it down for the bulk of the second half.  They were obviously going for a "Citizen Erased"-type thing there, but it didn't work nearly as well.  As great as the first few minutes is, when it slows down, I sometimes get so bored with the slower parts that I just skip to something else.  And I love slower music when done well, but they missed the mark there, I think.

Regardless, they are coming here in November, and tickets go on sale Friday, so I am a happy boy.

This CD still feels really crap compared to previous Muse but a couple songs have grown now... Uprising is alright, Resistance is awesome, Undisclosed desires is pretty good and the beginning of I belong to you looks like it's going someplace awesome then totally falls apart. Still think the rest is awful though, including the symphony. But I've been having a real old-muse resurgence lately listening to citizen erased nonstop so I'm still feeling a LOT of love for the band, just hope they go back on track!
Every story needs to have an ending, we might as well give up all this pretending and clear the air...

I still love the album, the only song I'm not a fan of is Guiding Light (and it is really quite bad, wtf were they thinking). The rest is still great though!

I didn't like the album as a whole that much, but some of the songs like Undisclosed Desires and Resistance are pretty cool on their own.

My biggest problem with that song is that they decide to play it live.  No one was into it during the Atlanta show, thank God.

"Guiding Light" sounds like a clear attempt to write another rocking ballad, ala "Invincible," but it felt way short.  It isn't a bad song, but it is just kind of there.

Yeah I'm not a big fan of Invincible either, easily my least favourite on Black Holes. Not as bad as Guiding Light though :lol

Yeah, guiding light is a pretty terrible track. Thankfully the album recovers very quickly with the remaining tracks.

Hmm, probably see what things look like later in October and decide if I'd like to grab tickets for New Jersey. Would only do it if I could find a good deal on Ebay for some tickets.

Not sure I'll be going to this...maybe if they change the set list significantly (like, Citizen Erased and all of Exogenesis) and I know a few more people going.  And if I have money.  They do put on a hell of a show though.

EDIT: and if I wouldn't have to drive 4.5 hours on a Tuesday.  Have fun!

I'm tired of listening to Muse's albums, but The Resistance still is pretty cool to listen to. It all sounds a bit more polished and accessible, and while that was at first my criticism, it actually works in their case. They're not rocking as hard as they once did, but it's all so undeniably good.

I love Uprising, The Resistance (one of the best Muse songs ever), Undisclosed Desires, United States, MK Ultra, Unnatural Selection.. well pretty much everything except for Guiding Light. Bleh, why Muse? Why did you guys do that? Matt's vocal delivery is truly making me sick in my belly.

p.s. Undisclosed Desires just starting playing on the radio while I was typing this

I really don't like Undisclosed Desires much. That and Guiding Light I could do without even though I don't hate them.
The rest of the album I am happy with, especially United States of Eurasia (fucking awesome, probably my favorite), MK Ultra, I Belong to You (a lot of fun), and Exogenesis.

Mine too, its Muse going uber-pop but doing it right.  Undisclosed Desires, Resistance, Uprising, and I Belong to You are still my favorites from the album, though Exogenesis can be fun too sometimes.

I've only listened once thus far, but it sounds a bit of a mish-mash of previous songs. The verses are very Knights of Cydonia, the choruses are very Resistance, there's a USE vibe in the intro, and the outro's got a Butterflies and Hurricanes kinda thing going on.

I really don't like Undisclosed Desires much. That and Guiding Light I could do without even though I don't hate them.

I don't think USE gets enough love. If you check out the Muse message boards (and I try not to!), everyone moans about how it sounds like a massive rip-off of Queen.

Er, for two seconds? Teeny bit toward the end, too? Christ, here comes the apocalypse.

It's more than just two seconds.  All of the vocal melodies sound very Queen-ish, the guitar lead when it explodes into the chorus is very "We Are the Champions," the "there can be only one" line is right out of Highlander, and the piano outro is very A Day at the Races era.  All in all, it totally sounds like a song Queen would have done; I think that is rather obvious.  Regardless, I still like it quite a bit. :)

So lately everytime I sing a song by Muse everyone's like "oh that's that band from twilight!" Kinda sucks that such a great band is associated with such a shitty movie. And I've really grown tired of Uprising since I hear it basically everywhere I go. I feel like such an indie jackass, I like the band less now that pretty much everyone else at school likes them. It's weird because I'm one of those people that never likes a band less because they hit it big but for some reason it's different with Muse.

Yeah, I find it weird how often I'm hearing Uprising nowadays, it was in the trailer for that Tom Cruise/Cameron Diaz movie, I heard it in a jewelry shop when shopping for mother's day, and I've heard "Resistance" on the TV a few times.  Doesn't hinder my enjoyment of Absolution or Origin though, and I know that real Muse fans love those albums too and not just the songs in Twilight.

Yeah, but if you talked to someone who said they were a Muse fan, and how much they loved SBH and "I Belong to You" and they were the only songs on their iPod (maybe Starlight and Plug In Baby too), you'd probably get annoyed too, like meeting a "Zeppelin fan" who only has "Immigrant Song."
