If it is, it will be a 5-star record.

To me, Muse has arguably gotten better and better with every subsequent record (although there are certainly days where I prefer Origin of Symmetry to Absolution).

Suffice it to say, I am really looking forward to this.  :)

https://www.ultimate-guitar.com/news/upcoming_releases/muse_aim_to_include_hardest_song_ever_on_new_album.html

Quote
Answering questions from fans on the Muse forum, bassist Chris Wolstenholme confirmed that work had started on the follow-up to their 2006 album "Black Holes And Revelations".

Wolstenholme wrote: "It would be nice to have the album out in the second half of next year [2009] but we have not set ourselves any targets. It is more important for us to make the best album we have made to date, and if that means it comes out in 2010 then we don't mind."

The star did add that he and the rest of the band were hoping to make the earlier release date.

The trio also revealed that the album could feature the "hardest song" frontman Matt Bellamy has ever written.

"There is a new song in three parts, more of a symphony than a song, which I have been working on sporadically for many years," said the singer, answering another question. "As a large percentage of the composition is orchestral, I have never wanted to collaborate with a string arranger as they may make it 'theirs'. So I have been arranging the orchestral elements myself, which is taking a long time. It should hopefully make the next album as the final three tracks."

Meanwhile the band also joked that having recently been given honorary doctorates they have been enjoying using their new titles.

One fan asked whether they had used the phrase "Trust me, I'm a doctor", to which drummer Dominic Howard joked: "I use that line every day... I just hope I'm not in the situation where someone takes me seriously and asks me to do something. At that point I will just have to offer a healing drumbeat."

I am very excited about this one, so many new albums coming out this year that i'm excited about.

Wow. I thought Black Holes and Revelations was generally considered to be a pretty sucky album. Personally, I can only stomach a handful of the songs on it.

But, hey, at least we all agree that it would be fantastic if the next album were better than BC&R. ;)

So just because people use "lol" a lot and its showed up in funny pics on the internet like GTFO has, its considered a meme too?  Nope!

Back on topic!  I am excited for the new album, which means I need to finally get around to buying Origins of Symmetry.  BH&SR was awesome, I just hope that Resistance is better.

I compare Muse with Pink Floyd, and I'm still waiting for Muse to release their Dark Side of the Moon!

Actually, yes. I'm not talking about the level of creativity involved, just the "everyone's doing it and thinks its funny so I will to" mentality. When you replace what would have possibly been an intelligent responsive with a cutesy phrase that was kinda funny from an earlier thread, you have meme.

Very few bands have a Dark Side of the Moon in their arsenal, and as much as I like Muse, I have serious doubts as to whether they are one of 'em.

Muse's first 4 albums > Pink Floyd's first 4 albums.

Agreed.  Floyd didn't start to hit their stride until their 5th album in 1970.

The Piper at the Gates of Dawn is better then anything Muse has done.

I love Floyd, possibly as much as anyone else here, but Piper... is one of the most overrated rock records ever.

Agreed.  Floyd didn't start to hit their stride until their 5th album in 1970.
Do you include the soundtrack to More in that? I.e. do you consider the 5th album to be Atom Heart Mother or Meddle?

I love both albums so I don't really mind either way, but while I know AHM gets slated a lot, I like most of the songs a lot, and the title track, while undoubtedly self-indulgent, still has wonderful moments. And the album in general was, in my opinion, a massive step in the right direction that ultimately resulted in their masterpieces. :)

Wait, this thread is about Muse

Actually this is a good point.
Im all for a album thats better than the last.
But, BHaR was so amazing, that it will be hard for Muse to keep outdoing themselves.
They may become a victim of their own success.
