That little keyboard part comes in right before the chorus, Chris steps away from the keyboard, and the camera flips to a smirking Matt.

It's amazing. I love Matt's pointing during the solo.

I've heard very little Muse but what I have heard I've mostly enjoyed. Would this be a good album to start with the band?

Me: "How?"
Cole: "Well you know when you try to scratch your balls, and you scratch too hard?
I'll admit sometimes I want to listen to Dragonforce.

Maybe not. Blackholes or Origin would be my recommendations

The album has grown on me, but I still think is their worst.

It is still too early for me to say if I like it as much or more than Absolution, Black Holes... or Origin of Symmetry, but unless you don't like this record at all, I have a hard time believing a Muse fan would like Showbiz more than this.  Showbiz has a few really good songs, but has a lot of crap, too; I consider it their worst album, by far.

I prefer Showbiz as a whole. IMO, The Resistance "peak" moments are much better than the ones in Showbiz, but the second is more consistent from start to finish. Anyway, I've just heard the album a few times, and its current position is not permanent.

No way, I'd say Black Holes was a pretty bad place to start (which isn't to say I don't like it).

I'd say Absolution, or maybe Origin of Symmetry, are the best place to start.

Black Holes and Resistance are an acquired taste I'd say. They both are very different from traditional rock Cd's.
Of course, Muse is much more than an average band, so you could start there and still love it, but a little knowledge of their more "popular" stuff will let you appreciate the band more.
So yeah, I'd say Absolution, then Origins of Symmetry, and Showbiz/Black Holes/Resistance afterwards.
Everything can, should and will be progressive.

I'd say Showbiz last. I mean, it's got some really good stuff, but a lot of it is very run of the mill. Black Holes and Resistance, while a bit wackier and not necessarily to everyone's tastes, are more varied, vibrant and exciting IMO.

I would start with Origins of Symmetry or Absolution.

Black Holes and Resistance are my favorites, though.

Haven't listened to Showbiz, although I have the CD...

Yeah okay, I watched it again and definitely noticed it this time. :p

The first time through I thought I was supposed to look for the audio tape malfunctioning and Muse being caught lip-syncing or something. :P

Okay, this may be a little weird, but Undisclosed Desires is my favorite Muse song now. The vocal melodies are God-sent, and the song has a very creative approach. I can't get over it. I have no idea what it is, but I've repeated that song over and over and it's not getting boring despite being comprised of two repeating parts...

No, like seriously, that song is:  :hefdaddy

I'm so jealous. I'm seeing U2 at the end of October and the Black Eyed Peas are opeining for them .

I'm loving the Resistance more and more with each listen. I think it is going to be my second favourite Muse album...#1 being Absolution.  :metal

Undisclosed Desires is the only song I don't like at this point... the singing just sounds... robotic, for some reason. Don't like it.
Resistance is AMAZING and Eurasia is so epic. Unnatural Selection is just rockin' and the Symphony is pretty great as well.

But Unnatural Selection is the only 'traditional' muse song  :-\

Does not compute.

Eh? Even if by "traditional" you mean it sounds like it'd be on Showbiz or OoS, then still Resistance, MK Ultra and Exogenesis fit the bill too (the only thing new about Exogenesis is the orchestration, other than that it's very Muse style).

There's no reason Unnatural Selection should be almost 7 minutes long. It's just too damn long for what it is.

Well, after many listens of this, my verdict is around a 7/10 album, which puts it down in the Showbiz area. To me it just lacks a lot of great tracks like the three before it had. It has some boring stuff, a really good song or three, and the rest is alright. Undisclosed Desires might actually be my favorite from the album.

No way, I know some people don't like the middle section, but I think it's great! Not one of my favourites on the album, but still a very good song.

I think I will definitely end up ranking this as their 4th best (with Showbiz a distant 5th), but I still like this album a great deal, and it will definitely rank high for me for 2009.  Ultimately, this is probably about a 4-star album, while the three before it were all 4 1/2 stars.

I will never understand how some Muse fans don't love that record.  Some of their best songs ever are on there, and even the least best songs are damn good.  To me, the only slightly weak songs from those three records (OoS, Abs and BH&R) are "Sing for Absolution" and "The Small Print."

Listening to the exogenesis symphony for the first time on spotify now. I usually don't find myself too fond of bellamy's rachmaninoff attempts but we shall see.
Every story needs to have an ending, we might as well give up all this pretending and clear the air...
