Also, I think roulettes are easier for me when I think I've got no chance of winning, it frees me up to send what I like, or think others need to hear, without the pressure of keeping my #1 spot.

So you're saying I'm doing you a favor?  Glad to be of service.   :tup

okay, gonna throw in my hat into the ring and say i'm impression #2, no clue about gifpressions though  :lol

Yep.

I feel like almost all of the GIFpressions are way too on the nose, but maybe that's just me.  Some of them I have an image in my head, but finding one online that's close can be a challenge.  Other times I stumble upon something even cooler than I could have come up with on my own, but might be somewhat less close than what my actual impression is.

#14?

Yep.

13:  I might have made a serious error in ignoring this genre.

Probably not the easiest one to get.

5:  Did you accidentally overlay three separate songs on top of each other?

9:  Wow, I'm gonna need 100 listens to unpack all the layers in this.

Maybe?

Of course, part of the design of these is that they could apply to several different artists, so those might not be inaccurate, but no, that's not the one I'm going for.

Text impressions 15?
GIF 9?

Nope, nope.  Particularly for the GIFs, some of these people might need to alternate between thinking abstractly and literally to get them.

GIFs: 4 could be me, otherwise it's Puppies' Moonsorrow song.

Impressions: Maybe one of these:

11:  This is an artist I've wanted to get more into, and there are certainly elements that seem promising, but I'm not sure these are the right songs.

14:  Oh boy are my opinions about this going to send mixed signals about my taste.

15:  There is nothing wrong with this, why don't I like it more?

17:  This is definitely adjacent to music I really like, but I'm not sure there's quite enough to latch onto.

Hmm well hopefully on further listens, you realise how gorgeous their music is. If not then your ears might be broken. :neverusethis:

Love the Mute pick.  One of their best guitar melodies.  Shadows though was one that was never quite a fav of mine.

But I agree, Lithos ears may be broken.  ;D

You know, once you finish your roulette there will be no waiting list anymore.  You could just start your V3 roulette immediately, and then I could spam you with all the weirdest stuff I love and see if anything sticks.  :)

I have drafts of all the writeups done, I just need to edit them into shape and solidify all the rankings.  Should have them up by Saturday if nothing unusual happens.  Here are the filled-out early impressions to nibble on in the meantime.

Round 3 Early Impressions:

1:  Tomislav95 - Kingcrow - Didn't I ban Porcupine Tree?

2:  Crow - Beyonce - Now this is why you need people who are willing to send unexpected artists.  Dunno if I'm going to love these songs, but the vocals are on fire.

3:  HOF - The Clientele - Apparently the law of gravity might apply to roulette submissions as well.  I'm hearing a better version of these songs in my head with the vocals from other bands.

4:  senecadawg2 - Loreena McKennitt - Am I playing Myst and Riven again?  I've clearly been overlooking this artist for way too long.

5:  Sacul - Nicolar Jaar - Did you accidentally overlay three separate songs on top of each other?

6:  Evermind - Marketa Irglova - I don't know if these tunes are catchy enough, and the instrumentation is a bit plain, but at least the vocals are solid.

7:  soupytwist - Katzenjammer - I didn't realize I was in the mood to have this much fun.  We're gonna party like it's 1899!

8:  twosuitluke - King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard - Look forward to the writeup, not to the score.

9:  SoundscapeMN - Pepe Deluxe - Wow, I'm gonna need 100 listens to unpack all the layers in this.

10:  Elite - Oranssi Pazuzu - I'm not high enough for this.

11:  Stadler - Marillion - This is an artist I've wanted to get more into, and there are certainly elements that seem promising, but I'm not sure these are the right songs.

12:  Lethean - Leprous - KoRn goes to college.

13:  TAC - Ereb Altor - I might have made a serious error in ignoring this genre.

14:  Buddyhunter1 - Blanck Mass - Oh boy are my opinions about this going to send mixed signals about my taste.

15:  ariich - Insomnium - There is nothing wrong with this, why don't I like it more?

16:  Vmadera00 - Sufi's Life - A lot of people would probably relegate this to a novelty tourist shop, but you may have found the right person to send it to.

17:  Nachtmerrie - Amenra - This is definitely adjacent to music I really like, but I'm not sure there's quite enough to latch onto.

18:  Puppies_On_Acid - Moonsorrow - Do I smell pews burning?

Round 3 GIFpressions:

1:  Buddyhunter1 - Blanck Mass

2:  Lethean - Leprous

ah, makes sense.

there's a ton of layers and instruments packed into their music, including many *vintage* instruments, 1 specifically they waited many years to be able to use.

Yeah that makes sense to me, because I wasn't familiar with the Myst and Riven reference. The GIFs were easier to guess, but still a little confusing. I'm hoping the first is more along the lines of, what what can I possibly say? this is beautiful rather than, what's the point of this?

The music in "The Mystic's Dream" definitely has some vibes from some of the music in the scores for those games.  Generating an image-based impression for the last two entries in particular was the hardest for me to come up with, which is why I went for more generic placeholder "I just can't come up with anything" GIFs.  At that point I just start being literal in looking at words in the band/album/song names (Kingcrow was the same way as well, sort of The Clientele also).  So seeing "The Bonny Swans" I searched for swan GIFS, and while scrolling through found a dancing one that was just too cool not to use, no matter that I believe it's actually a duck.  :)
