 Sounds generic,

Sure does - good to see Laverdi back in action , although ironically he sounds like Shotton here (who's on drums).  At his best I really like Ramos too , so not sure if I'll bother with this or not.  Certainly sounds like cookie cutter Frontiers style songs.

Nope, that's the first I've heard of them. I have no patriotism at all, so their place of origin doesn't help either. :P

Check out Embrace the Silence, it's amazing.  Come on man, support the Aussies!! (If you like them of course :))

Those samples did nothing for me, so I can't say I feel too motivated here. :lol And as I said, zero patriotism here, and I usually go out of my way to avoid Aussie bands if anything.

Why?

Yeah.  For me it depends if there are enough solo spots to be honest.  Love the album Ramos did with Hugo, The Dream.  That was filled with amazing guitar work.

Maybe it's a statement against the silly idea of supporting something based on nothing but geographic proximity, or maybe it's just because nothing good comes out of Australia. :P

I'll never support stuff I don't like, but I'm always ready to give them a go because they are Australian.  I don't support stuff I don't like.  I like most of the Aussie metal bands like VP, Dungeon/Lord, Black Majesty, Eyefear, etc. but there's some stuff which is garbage. (i.e Pegazus. )

There are loads of really good Australian metal bands around, that never get the publicity here that their pop counterparts get from TV and radio.
Voyager, Vanishing Point, Ne Obliviscarius, Eyefear, Be'lakor are all world class bands.
I try and support these bands and others, by going to local gigs and buying the CD's.
Without these bands and others, we wouldn't have a metal scene here and the flow on through international bands coming here more often.

I too used to be like you, Mr Blob, but when I discovered that Australia has some very talented bands, it changed my mind and perspective.

I think supporting a band just because they're from your country is kind of silly. Of course not supporting them just because they're from your country is silly as well.

tl;dr you're all silly :P

Nothing wrong with a little patriotism.  I'm sure we'll all be rooting for our home-country athletes in a couple of weeks.

Oh right, the Winter Olympics. The silly event where you don't really win, you just sort of default by process of elimination from everybody else injuring themselves. I care even less about that than the regular Olympics, which is already zero.

If the winter olympics had events focussed on rain GB would be up there but we are pretty shit at the winter stuff. Apart from Hurling- we're great at that. Probably because its a bunch of housewives sweeping the floor.

I've spent some time lately with both Harem Scarem - Mood Swings and Magnum - On A Storyteller's Night.  Both are fantastic.

Since these were mentioned earlier as some of the best, are there any other albums in their discographies that are close to these two?

It's pretty well acknowledged that Vigilante and Wings of Heaven are the other two to start with as far as Magnum goes -not necessarily like OASTN but quality..

IMHO the Harem Scarem album closest in sound to Mood Swings -and it's not mega close - would be Believe (or Karma Cleansing depending on the country).  There's a couple of different tracks too on those different versions.

Here's a couple of the singles to try

With Magnum I'd go for Wings of Heaven next though its a bit less pomp-y, more AOR. Chase the Dragon is pretty good and in a similar vein to OASN, but that album  was a step up. Get the remaster with Back To Earth on it. One of their best songs.

I love Wings Of Heaven, great album really hits the spot for me.
I really hope that Magnum and which ever label, release the old Live On the Wings of Heaven VHS on DVD/BR.
Now that was Magnum at their very best.

This.  Form what I've seen of it, it's tremendous.  Definitely deserves a DVD release.

The 92 show of Birmingham deserves a proper DVD too.

On others' suggestions, I just too the leap with them.  16.6 and Unbreakable are dynamite.  I also got Seven Seals, and have no complaints.
