Nihil-Morari

Yeah, me too.

The Chopin stuff was, sorry, butchering the originals. I love experiments, but this is blasphemy (this is Sparta).
And I don't really like tourniquets music, so I can't really like his drum stuff within it either.

And apart from that:

He's left, screw that  :D

^ He (Ted Kirkpatrick) is pretty good.

I just wonder if DT is looking for drummers that they already have connections with, or if it's completely open, because from the looks of it, it is invitation-only.  In that case, is DT really friends with Tourniquet?

While I would seriously doubt they actually know each other, I'd like to think maybe DT at least knows of him/his band.  Anyway, I didn't really think there was a real chance he might get an audition, more just like a dream choice for me.

I guess I can understand a classical purist (for lack of a better word) maybe feeling that way.  I've never really been too big into classical, though, so it doesn't bother me.  Not liking Tourniquet's music -- to each his own.  I've just always found his drumming to be both very technical and creative.  I really think he'd be awesome in DT, but, as mentioned above, it's just wishful thinking on my part anyway.

I guess what he means is that his approach to classical music drumming is not that impressive (for his and my opinion).. from what i saw in the video you posted... there are more creative drumming approach to classical music..

for example this is more complex and a better fit: (my fav part comes after 1:00 mark)

I was thinking today...I wonder if they'd consider doing some Christmas shows or local northeast shows with the new drummer before they enter the sudio.
Quote from: wkiml on June 08, 2012, 09:06:35 AMwould have thought the same thing but seeing the OP was TAC i immediately thought Maiden or DT related

After giving it some thought, and investigating all these different names mentioned, I've come to a decision as to who the 7 drummers likely are, from "all over the world":

Virgil Donati (Australia)
Bobby Jarzombek (USA)
Ted Kirkpatrick (USA)
Thomas Lang (Austria)
John Macaluso (USA)
Rod Morgenstein (USA)
Peter Wildoer(Sweden)

And the winner is: Rod Morgenstein.

I mentioned Ted Kirkpatrick from Tourniquet earlier in this thread but had no good clips to offer.

Until now.

Here's him soloing over some Chopin (he's got a big classical side): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NaJfFTbadKg&videos=aK3N4-oWPNo&feature=BF

Another from that same series: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q3IxNy4QIa4&videos=aK3N4-oWPNo&feature=BF

And, of course, some metal cred as well: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5MSo3xQ0FwI&videos=aK3N4-oWPNo&feature=BF

Kirkpatrick also offers a lot of skill as a writer, as he has written probably about 75 percent (or more) of Tourniquet's music through the years.  I know DT probably isn't looking for a lot of writing input from a new drummer quite yet, but I still think the possibilities could be really cool.

I didn't like it... he is very good tho. i just didn't got what he was doing with his classical side approach... in that matter i like vadrums approach better.

Yes, I agree too. Vadrum's got something Kirkpatrick doesn't have. Maybe he's mor subtle or whatever, But I think Vadrum's style suits classical music better than Kirkpatrick's.

I had never seen the Vadrum guy before, but, yeah, he's pretty incredible!  Does he also play with any rock/metal bands?  I'll still retain my love for Kirkpatrick too, though.

Interesting, but I don't think Morgenstein is one of the 7.  He has a gig at Berklee.

I actually like Jarzombek to wind up with the spot.
Quote from: BlobVanDam on December 11, 2014, 08:19:46 PMHef is right on all things. Except for when I disagree with him. In which case he's probably still right.

Yes, Jarzombek is definitely the best option of those 7.

Agreed. I would so like to see him play in DT. He's technical, powerful and subtle at the same time. I would have nothig against John Macaluso though.

Somehow I don't think Jarzombek is even one of the seven.
I'd love him to be DT's new drummer, don't get me wrong, but is there any evidence at all that one of the DT guys even know of him? Let alone know him?

Idk but it may be that they know him some way or another. After all, he's not the unknown druummer from around the corner.

I just really don't think Donati would mesh well with DTs style. Sure, he could adapt, but I don't think that's what they're going for.

Jarzombek is unlikely due to him being in Halford. I mean, he's touring right through all the supposed try-out dates.

You didn't put Charlie Z on your list. I'm willing to bet that it's a 50/50 toss up between him and Peter. Just my guess.
Charlie has the advantage of being from the states and residing in NY, which economically is a much smarter move for travel.

EDIT: Just looked on Charlie's youtube...he has uploaded several DT covers lately. Hm.....

Quote from: BrotherH on October 12, 2010, 10:55:19 PMWhat about Deen Castronovo?

I initially laughed at this and said to myself, "I seriously doubt Deen has the chops for DT."  But then I thought about it and maybe he does.  On Journey's 30th anniversary tour a few years back, they did a full set of the older material, including a lot of more prog-influenced and fusion songs, and he handled the odd beats and unusual time signatures perfectly.  So maybe he could pull of the DT material.  Not sure.  But he is a family guy as well.  And he can SING.  If he could pull of the material, he might actually be a great fit.  But I'm not sure it would be easy to convince him to leave his current meal ticket.

Assuming the age difference isn't a big deal, I thinkt his guy actually might work. He seems the only one so far who would naturally fit into the role.

He could be the perfect guy. Plus he added a couple of DT play alongs on his youtube page.
