This is what got me into his drumming. I find his control on the pedals to be amazing

That's one thing that bothered me about Mike, he would very often cut out tons of double bass stuff life and simplify it.

I have it on good authority that Thomas Lang was one of the 7.
I can't tell if you're being serious  :mehlin

Where did you get that info then, heffy?

He's hef.
Actually, this.  I know a student of Lang's who told me.  If I weren't hef, I wouldn't know this guy.

A student of Lang's? Like at one of his drum camps? I am definately excited if he was indeed one of the 7. His twitter updates on October 17th show that he was packing up for something and that he had a lot of gear.

LTE

I always had said that Lang would be a good fit. Most people doubted me.

Yeah, I remember reading that you were behind him, and I agreed. I can't remember why people were against him

LTE

Mike even mentioned Lang in a few interviews if I recall. Said stuff like "and there's guys like Thomas Lang who do stuff I can't even imagine"

Granted, technical skill is definitely not the most important factor in DT's decision.

TimmyHiggy

I hope he gets the DT job so he can give up being a chippendale...

emindead

With me, it's that I had never heard him before.

Adami

Assuming these two people got the auditions, I'd say Land and that Charlie Z kid have the best shot just based on drumming.

No, like a private student.

Charlie Z bugs me for some reason... he seems to have too much energy for them.

That's OK, they need a boost.

The Letter M

I've always been a fan of Thomas Lang. About a decade ago when I got my Sonor Giant-Step Twin Effect pedal for my drum set, it came with a video (yes, VHS) of Lang demonstrating the Giant Step series of pedals, and I was just floored by his control and technique with his feet alone! His abilities were, and still are, amazing - he's got great independence of limbs, has a great understanding of polyrhythms and polymeters, and definitely has chops.

I think he'd be a great fit in DT and in fact would probably challenge JR and JP to write some more challenging music than lately, something a bit more technical and progressive but still heavy.

Kind of, but Charlie has more.. I'm sure his energy would be perfect in DT, but when he plays, his body seems to be doing too much.

....so? He's not goofy or anything.

And as far as we know, he doesn't hock loogeys all over the place.

Forget I said anything. It's just a minor annoyance of mine. But Charlie and Lang are my two choices for replacement drummers. And yes, Hef. At least he doesn't spit like crazy onstage  :lol

nikatapi

I hope that Peter Wildoer is also one of the 7 drummers...

He's too....all over the place, but that's simply based on Static Impulse. The man has psychotic skills, but his style is just too crazy for me, lacks hmm.....tastefulness.

SystematicThought

I've never seen what he looks like until now.

He does have skill and I loved his playing on Static Impulse. Nice kit too. I hope that's what he brings on the SI tour

Birch Boy

I'd be content with Peter Wildoer in Dream Theater.

After watching the video, I'd still say that's way too all over the place.

This.

Thomas Lang can be all over the place, but the variety of his session work proves that he is content with holding back and fitting the music he's playing.

Adami

Yea, Lang seemed to be able to sit and there and groove. Wildoer just seems to go crazy at every oppurtunity.

According to Lang's wiki page, he's been a session drummer with numerous musicians, including Kelly Clarkson
