I'm still curious why you think he has a "very good chance" of joining the band. What makes you think he'll even audition? He doesn't seem to fit their style in the slightest bit.

idk if he will try out or not im jsut saying i wouldnt doubt he would.

form the second link, yes that doesnt fit there style at all. but the first deffinatly shows off his musical talent as a whole. the time changes in that song are very strage and he deffinatly played progressive metal beats throughout that song

Adami

You can be an amazing prog drummer, but not fit DTs style at all. Saying he wouldn't fit into DT isn't an insult in the slightest bit, alot of amazing drummers wouldn't fit in the band, it happens. He might be diverse, but I haven't heard anything that even remotely suggests he'd fit in with the band. He seems more fitting in those videos, good match for him there.

im confused.

i have the feeling you dont play drums.

ive been drumming for like 6 years now i find that its very very easy to be able to play anything as long as you have the chops.  hes got the chops to play dream theater for sure. and it also comes down to personality. hes an amazing person. very knowledgeable on music in general.

also charlie banante from anthrax would be a NEAR perfect fit for them. hes close with the band as a whole and is an amazing figure

Adami

I've been a drummer for 13 years. I'm not saying he can't play DT songs, a lot of drummers can. I'm talking about his natural playing style not being a good fit for DTs music. Sure he could adapt, but what would be the point in that? They're going to find someone who doesn't  have to try to play their music, but does it naturally.

How about Joe Travers from Zappa Plays Zappa?  Here's a video from Prog Nation 09(i was at this show ) of him.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YcEVHGiVOX0

im still confused. you should know that playing drums just comes by listening to music.

Forget it dude, you're right. Your friend there is clearly going to be DTs new drummer. Tell him congrats for me.

i didnt say he was going to be. the thread was about drummer possiblities so any suggestion is fine. i jsut mentioned a name and stated why i thought he would be good, he jsut finished with the number 12 and is a free man right now.

banant would also be a good pick too. tim alexander might also be a cool pick

Infinite Cactus

I want to change my answer to Andrea Vadrucci. It just makes too much since.

I thought about him too, but he seems to be very close in style to MP, much too close. Booby Jarzombek FTW!

In CJS's recent interview, the interviewer asks James if Peter Shmuck (or whatever the guy's name is), the death-vocal drummer on Static Impulse, would be a candidate for the position, and James said that Petey definitely had the capacity, but refused to give any other additional information.

MykeHavoc

My guess is he's a candidate, but legally they can't say anything. I hope he does, but it would seem their are more logical choices, as Peter is Swedish. Charlie Z lives right in Brooklyn, so he seems like a wise choice.

Jordan did say that they'll audition people from around the world though.

and parts of Alabama...

bosk1

Tick stop disrespecting DT now or I ban you to hell!

Nihil-Morari

I was wondering... Do you think they'll be open about the auditions. Or just leave everything open and finally announce a new drummer after months of silence.

I think it would be very cool that for example Jordan filmed pieces of auditions and put them on his youtube channel. Or that JP or JLB announce the name they'll be auditioning that day, on their twitter.

tri.ad

I think that they'll announce that they have started auditioning; the next announcement would be about what drummer they have chosen.

Yazman

I know.. its going to be Christoph "Doom" Schneider from Rammstein  ;D ;D ;D ;D jk

Bobby Jarzombek would be awesome. Peter Wildoer from CJS' new album is pretty good too.

Mindflux

They'll just have Jordan fire up the drum machine.

Just use the one from Through Her Eyes and they're all set.

Dream Team

This may have already been mentioned in this thread, but this really is a "dream" gig to land, no pun intended . . . joining an estabished band with a bunch of nice family guys, playing songs where you get to show off your chops all the time. Good work if you can get it.  :tup

I wonder after their decision on the drummer, if they'll give names or show footage of the auditions like how Metallica did in some kind of monster.

Maybe.  MP was usually the one who arranged the in-studio filming, if I remember correctly.

Although lately, JR records EVERYTHING on video.  So, hopefully.

Yea I imagine JR would do the most video taping now and share it with the fans.

That crazy spastic dude from the wedding band in the yellow suit that Portnoy posted a link to a while back.  I'd pay to see him live.
