New Architects and Arena albums, although the latter doesn't seem to be available for streaming or even download yet, and I'm not paying £20 for an album I've not yet heard.

Digging the new Architects a lot.

Crooked Royals also released a new album...Quarter Life Daydream. I'm also liking what I'm hearing with these guys. I believe they were signed to Periphery's record label, 3DOT recordings.

Wow, this is VERY good! Vintage-sounding classic hard rock, with some shades of doom...Abundant hammond organ, great bass, captivating vocals and super-cool songs...who are these guys (and one lady)??  :)

One of today's releases I was looking forward to:

One listen in, it didn't disappoint. Jennie-Ann Smith is such a wonderful singer.

Came here to post this, glad to see some other Avatarium fans!

Yeah, the band is great but Jennie-Ann is the true added valor, a fantastic singer. The title track and Stockholm are my favorites so far. Avatarium are such a unique band in the doom genre (and the definition is definitively too narrow for them), every album has some killer songs to offer.
I use my sig to pimp some bands from Italy! Check out Elvenking (Power / Folk metal), Folkstone (Rock / Medieval metal), Arcana Opera (Gothic/Noir/Heavy metal) and the beautiful voice of Elisa!

Yes, the first album was the one with the strongest Candlemass influence (still great, btw), but then they started branching out...nothing too dramatic, but definitely adding different "spices" to the doom template. And I agree on the songs - the title track, especially, is wonderful.

I’ll be checking out the new Avatarium as well. I only recently discovered them and have been enjoying the debut album a great deal.

Some standout tracks from the other records (IMO of course) in case you want to sample more but you don't have time to listen to full albums:

Girl with the Raven Mask
The January Sea
Pearls and Coffin
Into the Fire / Into the Storm
The Starless Sleep
The Fire I Long For

Also, they made an absolutely great cover version of Eurhytmics' "Here Comes the Rain Again", basically turning it into an Avatarium song. Excellent adaptation!

Thanks, MirrorMask. I fully intend to check out the rest of their catalogue and I will start with Girl With the Raven Mask.

I listened to the new release yesterday and enjoyed it, even though it is missing the Leif Edling doomy riffs.

I haven't been in the mood much for brand new releases lately, but there's other stuff.  Disillusion, Pretty Reckless, Minuit Machine, First-Aid Kit, Anne-Sophie Mutter, Saturnus, Antimatter?, Angela Hewitt, Voivod, Muriel Grossman.  Dunno which I'll get to and when, or if.

It's an EP.  There was an album back in February.  I'm obligated to listen to First-Aid Kit since they kept me from sweeping a pool of rounds.  :P  I already was intrigued by them before though, and one of those songs was outstanding, so I'm not too bitter.

I've got:

Actor|Observer - Songs for the Newly Reclusive
Disillusion - Ayam
Devin Townsend - Lightwork
So of these, although Devy is my favourite of the three artists and I do like the album, I'm pretty sure I like the other two more. Great stuff.

Interesting, just that there's very little traditionally "prog" about anything she's done.

Don't know how many here are into him, but tomorrow there's a new album out from The White Buffalo, Year of the Dark Horse.

If you know him just casually, you probably know him from the soundtrack of Sons of Anarchy.

I'm not in disagreement with you ;)

https://theprogmind.com/get-to-know-us/

"The PROG Mind was started to explore the lyrical side of progressive music. While this is primarily a site about progressive music, I like to cover any music that I enjoy or that I consider ambitious and artistic. You will therefore see everything from rock and metal to electronica and pop to deeper subgenres like blackgaze, doom, folk, or even film and video game scores. Basically, I review and support what I like."

"My favorite bands include: Riverside, Evergrey, Anathema, Kamelot, ISON, Draconian, Pendragon, Votum, The Moody Blues, Pink Floyd, Dead Can Dance, Pain of Salvation, and many more."

Huh, I kinda like this guy.  A bit of a theme of the idea of the studio as being another instrument with a lot of these.  Which is very much present in everything Heike does.  For some reason there's not a ton of crossover with prog fans and everything descending from Dead Can Dance, so it's cool to find more.

I'm not always in agreement with his reviews, but I have to admit that I have discovered a lot of bands because of him.

Heike reminds me so much of Aleah Stanbridge (RIP)

Yeah, a bit of Sharon den Adel and Sarah McLachlan as well.
