Dont let your DT fanboyism blind you

This song is very very by-the-numbers and bland.

And I will completely disagree and I'll leave it at that.

Sounds just like ADTOE and DT12.

Musically, sonically, or both?

I disagree. Obviously there are similarities, but I get a completely different vibe from it. This is probably one of the more single-ish or normal songs too, so not representative of how the whole album will feel and sound.

James does sound a little overproduced, but I wonder if that could at all be related to the "voices" he's doing.

The beginning was definitely different,
during the verses, rift and drums were just like from ADToE and DT12.
Chorus and bridge were very opera rock which is different
Instrumental part was like from ADToE and DT12 until the myung unison at the end that where I jzzed
solo was really good
Ending reminded me of Sacrificed Sons Ending.. very epic and nice

The quality of the stream doesn't help to properly hear the dynamics, imo. The riffing sounds more like DT12 to me (which is good!). James vocals sounds pretty much like The Great Debate (which is good too!). But I hear nothing from ADTOE there...absolutely nothing.

I've not heard the song, but since it's been heard by many, I have to wonder how long it'll take for a cover of it to be put up on Youtube? Tomorrow? :lol

Agreed. I thoroughly agree. I thought it was a great song overall.

I reckon they chose this track to ease the minds of the fans who like the metal and shred.
Hopefully I enjoy the song more in the context of the whole act/album, but individually it's not a standout for me. It has some nice stuff going on though.

I don't love the vocal melody, it's not bad but nothing to get excited about.  Love the instrumentation around it, though.

I'm sure it'll sit better in context, but yeah this really reminded me of something on DT12.

And I'm really getting sick of them pushing the beat and not letting melodies flow.

This just makes me more amped up. Of course the two songs they'd release are going to be the more straight forward DT sound that a lot of fans really like. I am just stoked that those straight forward DT songs have both been really fun. I don't find it uninspired at all.

What always amazes me is that how, in like an hour, we will find youtube videos of people playing the song through on their guitar.

IMO It did sound kinda like from the last couple of albums... with an opera rock feel for sure.

It did kind of have that same sound from the last few albums, but IMO it was very well-done.  Given what noxon has said, though, this song may not be typical of what's on the albums.  That one was longer, heavier, and did have a lot of longer, proggy soloing.  I guess I'll have to wait to hear the softer stuff.

I agree completely. It's really good but not something that completely blew me away, though that might change in time. I liked TGOM more.

I just like it a lot, as simple as that sounds. I do hear a bit  of the same sound as the last 2 albums, but then it sounds like something else entirely. I really enjoyed this track a lot, no complaints from me.

I have liked a lot the two songs that I have heard from the album.

And I am relieved, because I´m one of those who hated what they did with DT12.

If the rest of the album is that good I´m going to enjoy this one a lot.

EDIT: And this doesn´t sound at all like DT12.

Just heard it. WOW, that was awesome! Some sections with vocals remind me a little of The Great Debate in style.
The intro theme, chorus, and instrumental are amazing. Sure, it's similar to the last 2 albums, but I love the last 2 albums. Plus they aren't going to release something really different early.

Damn o.o I liked that!!! Cool song!, Nice solo from Petrucci, piano by Rudess <3, Myung unison Solo!
But I still don't like that snare... or drumming.

The best parts are the intro and the first verse, plus the guitar solo.  Other than that, it's okay, and it sounds a lot like the last two albums.  This probably won't be my favorite song on the album.  I think TGOM is above it.

I'm sure it is.  It was recorded off a live Sirius radio show, first off.  Then YouTube mangles it up some more.  That's the last thing I'm worried about.
