I'll be at both shows in Buenos Aires! Already have my first row ticket to the first night and waiting for them to put the second night on sale. I'm going with my best friend and my brother. I'm also going to the meet and greet cause hell, I can afford it right now and it's probably the only time I'll be able to do all this. (both shows in great seats plus meet and greet!)

It's shaping up to be an amazing couple of days!!! Can't wait!!! This DVD is going to be amazing.  :metal

Is the gig seated? =/

It is but no one in the lower part of the venue remains seated.

@Rob: James said in an interview that they will be playing all of ADTOE so I am expecting the setlists to be different though they may only be rotating songs from that album and maintaining the rest.

wolfandwolfandwolf

I would really love for them to rearrange a song or two.  I feel like LSOAD could benefit from a makeover.

I think we need to have another setlist pool.  Tough to do since this shoot will be over two nights, but I'll think through the logistics and post something when we get a bit closer.  Perhaps a prize will need to be in order again...

Also, while I do not have any specific inside info, piecing together a few different bits of information, I am starting to form a suspicion that a particular song will be played that has not been played yet on this tour cycle that should be especially special.  Can't wait to see whether or not I am right.

You can't just dangle that in front of everyone and expect everyone to say "Ok, cool beans."  :omg:

Just answer me this one question, does your suspicion have something to do with James' recent interview with dreamtheater.com.ve about how he mentions that have some 'stellar' things in store for the DVD?

Someone told me not too long ago that a string quartet could be involved in the show, so... anything's possible  ::)

Perhaps not Genowyn

That is one piece of the puzzle, yes.

I'm guessing you're thinking of Dream Theater's Dyers Eve?

I wouldn't want the Octavarium orchestra to come back I don't think, but a string quartet (perhaps during the acoustic songs?) would be really, really nice. I'm just imaging how cool it'd be to see John and James performing "The Silent Man" and "Far From Heaven" along with the strings.

I don't think they'll be two entirely separate setlists on each night - that'd run for four hours, and I don't know if there'd be room for that on a Blu-Ray.
I know it's not very realistic, it was just my dream setlist(s). But they will definitely do some rotation fortunately.

So they'll cover Simply Red's Stars?  :lol

MetropolisWatches

They have to include the acoustic section on the new live DVD. I'll be very disappointed if they leave it out. It still puzzles me why it took years for DT to get back to this.

Stellar?

Stellar ---> Stars ---> Space ----> Mars ----> Moore

They're going to play Space-Dye Vest with Kevin Moore. There you go  :loser:

That is pretty much a flawless chain of reasoning. My teacher would give you 15 points (the German equivalent to an A+) for that, without doubt.

Btw, they might play SDV, but I don't think Kevin will be involved in it. Seems too unlikely that he'd suddenly be interested in doing that.

If anything would spark Kevin wanting to do that, MP leaving would be the only possibility, imho.

Jordan Rudess played Space-Dye Vest at his solo concert last year, so it's not impossible for them to resurrect it. I really wish that version had been recorded properly. It was far superior to the original (containing no spoken word samples).

I really didn't like JRs version. Every note he hit was struck hard, and he added too many fast runs. It took out all of the restraint, subtlety and emotion of the original and turned it into a standard piano piece. The delicacy is important, and JR getting bored as a pianist ruined it.

Right, it could have been better. But I'd rather listen to it like that and without the samples, than the original.

Well I don't consider the samples to be the worst thing ever created as you seem to. And I'd rather listen to the song played with emotion and delicacy WITH samples than butchered without samples.

It might not have been played as well as it could have been, but it wasn't butchered. Stop embellishing.

I mean, he played the right notes (even if he added way too many) but if you look at the song as a story of emotion, then he did butcher it since the aspects of the song that made it great were completely missing and the aspects of JR that were added were in complete contridiction with the original emotion of the song.

Well (and this is nothing new, I'm sure) if you look at the song as a story of emotion, then I think the samples butchered the original. So either way it's butchered.

I didn't really feel like it was that bad. Then again, I wasn't there. I just saw it on Youtube like the rest of you guys. I remember the few people  here who did see it live coming away pretty happy with it.

That said, I really don't care if they play it live, and I doubt it could be performed live with all the nuances of the studio version, KevMo performing or not. As a song, I like it, but it's not one of my favorites. I do like the samples though. The song just feels kinda naked without them.

The samples add emotion to it. Representing a guy hopelessly drifting through the TV late at night after a break-up or something

Maybe they're TRYING to add emotion, but it doesn't come across to me at all. So as far as I'm concerned, it's butchered.

?

Regarding the SDV performance, I'm a huge Kevin Moore fan but not a fanboy so I appreciate Jordan as well but IMO he should've stayed more faithful to the original version because it had never been played live before.
