I think there will be a new one after this current tour is over. Do we have enough as it is? or should there be a new one to spotlight Mike Mangini?

I hope it will contain one whole show, and have some backstage footage. I also hope it would contain, for example, The Count of Tuscany, which was played in the summer; especially considering we haven't gotten any official live versions of BC&SL songs.

I also believe it will include a making-of ADTOE, considering they had a lot of camera crews during the making of the album, and during post-production.

How do you guys feel about a new live album, possibly in 2012?

*removes dirt from under fingernails, looks up coily*

yeah, I s'ppose. ;)

I really hope so.

I'd be shocked if there wasn't one.  Since Charlie was kicked out, they've done a concert video release every time there was a studio album with a new lineup, and I can't imagine they'd make an exception this time.

For me, one whole show would be fine, but I'd also have no problem with performances from different shows, which could benefit the overall package considering how hit or miss JLB sometimes is live (like most rock singers are).

Blazinarps

I would rather have a one night show. IT makes it feel more like a concert performance than a best of.  I don't like seeing different clothes on the guys every song.  Anybody ever see Ozzy's live video from way back when? They would have different clothes every time the camera changed. Stupid.

Madman Shepherd

From what I understand, all of the DVD releases were pushed by MP with the exception of Chaos in motion.  CiM was pushed by the record company and MP sort of agreed to it even though it didnt fit his plan...and even made a statement about how the dvd isnt up to snuff quality wise simply because it was never planned so the footage they had wasnt the best.

Anyway, I would doubt if a DVD release is in the cards...next tour though for sure.  I hope I'm wrong though...

BlobVanDam

I expect they'll do one. They've got a good track record for releasing them steadily, and with the new line-up and album, it feels like a good reason to do one, especially as we didn't get one last tour, and the DVD from the tour before that was phoned in and doesn't really count.

I'd be very surprised if we don't get a DVD this tour. Hopefully it's a one show recording.

Here are my thoughts on it, at least circa October 6th, 2011:

https://www.dreamtheaterforums.org/boards/index.php?topic=28586.msg1092420#msg1092420

A Dramatic Tour Of Events
Disc 1:
1. Dream Is Collapsing/Bridges In The Sky
2. These Walls
3. Build Me Up, Break Me Down
4. Mike Mangini Drum Solo ("The Genie Unleashed"? :lol)
5. Ytse Jam
6. The Silent Man
7. Beneath The Surface
8. The Great Debate
9. Wait For Sleep
10. Learning To Live

Disc 2:
1. On The Backs Of Angels
2. Caught In A Web
3. Peruvian Skies
4. Through My Words/Fatal Tragedy
5. Outcry
6. Far From Heaven
7. Breaking All Illusions
8. The Count Of Tuscany

There's definitely enough songs performed on the current leg of the ADTOE Tour to release a 2CD live album, and perhaps a 2DVD live concert video, perhaps with one whole show, and then as bonus material, show other songs from the opposite set-list that weren't in the main concert video, then toss in some back-stage antics and/or a behind-the-tour video.

Frankly I would mostly be interested in it to see more of MM. In terms of performances themselves, I think I've seen too many to get excited about them these days.

Mangini also said on his facebook that he has a new solo in the works for the shows in 2012. I think it would be pretty sweet to have one or both of them on there as a huge metaphorical middle finger to all those who lay dissent upon his abilities. I would love to see a CiM type deal with multiple songs in multiple locations but with much better quality (such as the Peruvian Skies footage from High Voltage) to cover the time period between their first show with Mangini to possible the end of the second European tour to see what they bring to the table as new live material. I would also, of course, love to see a load of backstage material from both the studio and the road. I am willing to wait as long as possible for a deluxe package deal like this to please their fans, especially those who haven't been happy with any of their live releases since Score or Budokan.

Yes, please. I desperately need a live DVD from this tour.  :metal

They could maybe record one of the shows from their Asian tour, considering they're playing some rather big venues.

Metropolis pt.-1

I would love for it to be recorded at Wembley, if there was a new live DVD. But that's mainly just because I'm going to be there

Zydar

I would really love a new live DVD, hopefully it's shot at one single gig like Budokan and Score.

angelillo

it should be two concerts DVD

1) Summer tour in EU/UK, in particular Headlining HVF 2011 in London, I am sure there is footage fo this... and ELP put out their headlining show of 2010 as a live DVD, so it is not impossible... but I am being extremely optimistic I know... (I was there, and it was an amazing performance)

2) the proper ADTOE support tour, this can be from anywhere, but MAnchester Apollo on Feb 9, 2011 would be the obvious choice  ;)

I wouldn't bother me if it was a multi-show collage.  Just so long as the production quality is on par with Score and/or Budokan.  CiM was a good setlist, and cool to have the different cities/crowds, but the production was :puke:

I'm not really a big collector of live DVDs, but I wouldn't mind getting a live CD

chrisbDTM

they definitely need a new hi-def live video. need to show off mangini to anyone who didnt get to see the new lineup live. he's a monster

When I spoke with the guys after the LA show in September, that's one of the things I asked about, and it sounds like they definitely are planning on it. At that stage, it was too early to say what form said live release will take, but Jordan did tell me that they are recording every show.

That being the case I can imagine them doing 2 different things, since I think both audio and video releases will happen. Either they:
film a single show and put it out on CD and DVD/BR from it, saving all the other shows for future official bootlegs
OR
film a single show and release it on DVD/BR and release a CD compiling their best performances throughout the tour (which also would allow for them to include songs played early in the tour that they opted not to play at the filmed show); this would be similar to what Rush did for Exit Stage Left and A Show of Hands

Of course, there are numerous other scenarios that could happen, including going the route they did with CIM, but my gut feeling is that they won't do that. Perhaps they might even go in a different direction to what they've previously done, just to further change things up - releasing 2 complete shows on DVD/BR and/or CD or something else. Time will tell, but from what I was told, it's pretty much a given that there will be some sort of live documentation of this tour cycle.

An official release with a crowd like the Santiago Chile show would be amazing.

Mladen

Good idea, the crowd down there is always mind-blowing. And none of their DVDs so far were recorded in South America. I really hope we get a live DVD, I can't get enough of watching that Peruvian skies clip from High voltage.  :hefdaddy

DT needs an official SA live release. I can see this happening!

a one show hi-def dvd with the crazy crowds in south america would rule. watch Rush in Rio for example, that crowd is unreal.

The only problem with doing a show in SA is that at least up until now, whenever they've gone down there, they've taken their scaled back "B-rig" as it's  apparently was too expensive to bring the "A-rig". So if they were to continue doing so and shoot the show there, you wouldn't get the cool visuals you're used to seeing at shows in North America, Europe and Japan. Sure the crowd would help offset that, but part of the documenting of a tour is the visuals that go with it. I for one would only want them to film a show for official release in SA if they brought their full rig with them, otherwise, shoot it in another place where they normally take their A-rig and have crazy fans too - Italy comes to mind.

Solution:  Main set is a N.A. show.  Bonus footage is a partial or full S.A. show.

didnt think of that. ill take anything actually, but italy sounds awesome. I wonder if they would plan an evening with for the DVD shoot?

Well, if they opt to do a live album along with a live DVD/BR of the same show, then I definitely hope that they'd consider doing An Evening With show. Whether they do or not remains to be seen, but they seem to be pretty happy with the setlists as they are right now. A more likely scenario is that they'd do all the songs they're currently playing (the C and D setlists) - maybe even one or two others from the European warm-up tour that isn't in the set, but I'm not sure about that. (I personally would love to get TGD and TCoT on a live album)
