It's my favorite of them, but the chorus on "My Fortress" can get stuck in your head for weeks, and the solo in "Relentless" is bonkers.  I'm just happy I can't be knocked out by Nevermore and King's X, two of my favorite bands that I didn't even consider sending at all, I guess because I'm mostly going for more under the radar bands.

The irony of thinking of Triosphere as the more under-the-radar submission is that they're the only one of those three bands that I've ever heard a song from before.

Of course, that's not to say they're actually more prominent than the other two, it's just that I live under a rock except for DTF roulettes.

For the most part, the bands in this round are relatively fairly well known for a typical roulette round.

Yeah, people can do that with me because there are just a ton of well-known bands that I am not very familiar with. Triosphere is the only band this round that I can guarantee I've heard a full song from before. I think I may have heard something from Ghost many years ago, but I'm far from certain of that.

Triosphere isn't hyper-obscure, sure, they come up from time to time.  But the main Nevermore thread has 498 replies.  The main King's X thread has 134.  The Triosphere one has...three.

Think I'll check out my competitors in this round. I'm already very familiar with Buddy's submissions, and currently they obviously feel like the songs to beat.

Never heard of the other two, so I'll queue them up and come back to trash talk!

Edit: TAC, just listened to yours and they're really good. Hours was the highlight! Why aren't you sending this sort of thing in my roulette? Do you think I hate melody or something  :lol

I'm kind of glad he sent them if for no other reason than I'd like to see more of what other people see in Brodsky.  He's done some interesting collaborations with Converge/Chelsea Wolfe, Marissa Nadler, and the Two Minutes to Late Night cover videos, but I feel like they might be incidental to his contributions.  There are bits and pieces I've liked from Cave In and Mutoid Man, but I'm not fully on board yet.  Maybe one day.

Just listened to that one myself and was impressed.  There's a version of "Hours" in an alternate universe that a producer took a hatchet to and became generic 00s rock radio fodder, but the band refused to let that happen and kept the awesome in.  Do TAC and wolfking have an unspoken rivalry for who can send the coolest guitar solos?

425, do you listen to these playlists in the groups assigned or just all randomly?

I listen to the playlists in the groups assigned. I keep the order of songs that people sent, but change up the order of whose set of songs I listen to first. So for example: I always listen to Pool X together. And I will always listen to the King's X songs back-to-back-to-back in the order Dogman -> Smudge -> It's Love (and same with the other artists). But the first time I listened to Pool X, I went King's X -> Nevermore -> Fellowship -> Jolly, whereas my second listen reverses that order (Jolly -> Fellowship -> Nevermore -> King's X), and I'll mix it up again on my third listen.

By the way, since the last guess is obvious, I'll go ahead and post the full list of submissions grouped into their respective pools:

Pool X:
kingshmegland: King’s X - Dogman / Smudge / It’s Love
wolfking: Nevermore - Born / This Godless Endeavor
soupytwist: Fellowship - Glint / The Saint Beyond the River / Oak and Ash
romdrums: Jolly - Ava / Dust Nation Bleak / Lucky

Pool Y:
HOF: Anthonie Tonnon - Two Free Hands / Old Images / Leave Love Out of This
Lethean: Conception - Waywardly Broken / By the Blues / Cardinal Sin
senecadawg2: Serious Black - High and Low / Sealing My Fate / My Mystic Mind
Vmadera00: Sylvan - On My Odyssey / Overture / About to Leave

Pool Z:
TAC: Amahiru - Hours / Ninja No Tamashii / Samurai
LithoJazzoSphere: Triosphere - My Fortress / Relentless / Marionette
twosuitsluke: Ghost - Danse Macabre / He Is / Miasma
Buddyhunter1: Cave In - New Reality / Heavy Pendulum / Reckoning
And if spirit's a sign,
Then it's only a matter of time

Looks like decent competition in the group. I think I'm expecting Serious Black and Conception to top the group, but who knows. I do remember enjoying Sylvan's album a few years ago, though I never checked out any of the earlier stuff. Never heard of this Anthonie Tonnon fella.

Alright, sorry about the long time lapse again! Results should be coming this weekend. For now, here's a set of impressions:

I like the expansive feel of these songs, but the question is whether there will be enough for me to grab onto.

This makes me feel a strange sort of emotion that I can’t tell if I like.

Amahiru: Quite impressed with the guitar on these.

Triosphere: The first two songs are pretty good, but the third brings in an additional dimension that I really like.

Initially, this seems like a pretty good but pretty standard example of a genre I enjoy.

I don't know quite how to explain this, but these songs sound like how it would feel to fly. Really, really liking them.

The guitar one has to be Nevermore or Amahiru.

The first two songs are pretty good, but the third brings in an additional dimension that I really like.

Might be mine unless it's in the second set.

Didn't get a lot of engagement on those, which I feel is probably because the are long time lapses between my posts. I'll try to do better about that next round, maybe come up with some more games that we can play while I'm still listening to the songs. Here are the remaining impressions, with at least some results coming later tonight or early tomorrow:

Pleasantly surprised by how melody-centric this is.

Conception: This is such a cheating submission. Good thing I encourage cheating.

This is pretty catchy, though not in a conventional way.

I can tell there are layers to this one, but elements of the sound might be just a bit too far out there for me.

Not in my wheelhouse, but I find something strangely appealing about it.

King's X: What they’re doing with the vocals on these really appeals to me.

Don't feel too bad, all four roulettes are taking their time, and we rib all of them about it.  In the meantime we've come up with discography runthroughs, songs of each year discussions, top 50 album rankings, and other things to amuse ourselves.  :)

Good to hear! There's definitely been a lot of fun GMD activity lately, which is always nice to see!

I will add, since I've been pretty quiet this round, that I think this was a really good round. A lot of submissions I like a whole lot; a lot of difficult decisions!
