I keep coming back to the Black Map record. Enjoying it a ton. Maybe even more than In Droves.

Ironbound was kinda random...I guess if you are curious to hear a slightly more power-oriented Iron Maiden fronted by someone that sounds like Blaze Bayley, that's what you get here  It's actually not bad...

The Tómarúm album (bottom right) is very good...I'd probably tag it as "progressive" black metal...?

What are your thoughts on Coheed dude?

What are your thoughts on Coheed dude?

I'm loving their latest. They nail the short songs AND the longer ones. It's catchy and sophisticated at the same time, almost in a "Rush" way - not because they sound like Rush in this particular album, but because of the way they successfully manage that balance.

I have a pretty large gap in my knowledge of their catalog. No good reason for it, really. I own and like the first three albums (IKSOE and Good Apollo Vol I in particular), then I randomly found Year of the Black Rainbow a while back but didn't spend much time with it. I've been telling myself for a while I want to do a deeper dive, but for one reason or another I haven't yet. I think this might be the time  :) Like I said, I have been REALLY enjoying Vaxis II. Such a cool listen. I guess I'll resume with the two Good Apollos and go from there...

Nice one. As many know, I am totally biased as they are my favourite band, but I'm glad you're wanting to dig in further. It's a good sign that you dig IKSoSE:3 and Good Apollo I, they are incredible albums and arguably the band at their best. Vaxis II will be my album of the year, I have no doubt about that. It is catchy as all hell, whilst still being complex and Josh's drumming is just compelling throughout.

I'll look forward to hearing your thoughts on the rest of their albums. They haven't released a bad one and they all have their charm.

I'm just catching up on some new albums... and Danzig

Probably hooked  :tup

Nice to see some good old punk rock here as well. Not my favourite Bouncing Souls album but still pretty good.

Hef is right on all things. Except for when I disagree with him. In which case he's probably still right.

Wheel - Resident Human
Emma Ruth Rundle - Marked for Death
Emma Rut Rundle - Engine of Hell

Karl Sanders - Saurean Apocalypse (eastern style ambient album by the Nile-guitarist. I stumbled upon a review and gave it a spin. Pretty impressive with all kinds of traditional instruments. Recommended).

Hundred Year Old Man - Sleep in Light (postmetal inspired by Cult of Luna/Amenra. This could be a top 10 album this year. Brutal, great soundscapes, epic, impressive)

An unlikely but great trio.  We've probably talked about ERR before, but I'm not sure about Wheel.  Their self-titled song from the previous album is one of the best songs of the last few years.  What a journey.  I love the Sanders albums, but haven't yet given them the replay value they deserve.

Charles Griffiths - Tiktaalika

Second song in and this would be way better as an instrumental record.

Still going through them! Been a while. The God Thing, Beyond Daylight, honestly Colour Temple is top 5. I just heard the new live album and its incredible, Scarlet Flower Fields is money on this one. Love these guys!!!
