I've got nothing for a couple of weeks to be honest. My next ones are The Ocean and Sleep Token on 19 May.

Yeah this is where I am after one listen. Definitely a solid album and a nice sound, but not wowed by it so far. I think it's partly that I tend to like (and sometimes adore) how the slower, doomier style works when the music is melancholic and/or epic, but I'm not sure it works quite so well here where the music is more upbeat and, for want of a better word, pretty. Found myself wanting it to get either more energetic or more emotive. But I'll return to it for sure to see if it grows on me.

I absolutely love Sleep Token, their two last albums were golden.

Although I have a bad feeling for the next one, I've only heard a few sample once but it didn't look like the same level as the two previous albums... Maybe I just havent payed enough attention.

Regarding Fires in the Distance, on my side, it does grow on me even if my first listen set the bar really high. I especially love how they incorporate the piano parts in the music. I've listen to the album about 5 time and enjoyed every single of those listen.

Second listen and I may be coming round to your view. As is so often the case, once I have some idea of what to expect from that first listen, I can recalibrate my expectations on what I might enjoy about it. It reminds me a little of some of Kauan's stuff, if a little more riff-driven.

I've been listening to this since late February. Fantastic comeback album from this progressive art rock band.
My clear cut #1 Album so far this year, that I posted a review on my YouTube channel a couple of days ago

Also today:
Jessie Ware - That! Feels Good

Finding this quite interesting. The duck helped.

Indeed. Wouldn't normally be too interested in what will be mostly metal covers of themes from film and TV, but her involvement is the reason I'll definitely check it out.

Yeah I probably wouldn’t have bothered if she hadn’t been involved. But The Gates of Time is a great original song.

The Ocean and Sleep Token for sure, and I'll check out that Ghost EP although I'm not generally super into covers albums.

Also Mystery snuck out a new album today - ON A WEDNESDAY WTF - which sounded very solid from a first listen.

I simply do not understand what people see in Ghost.

You calling?

I think they are absolutely brilliant - and even more so with their more recent 2-3 full length albums, where they fully embraced the "pop" side of their sound. We were talking about this on the other thread with Luke a few days ago. To me, their songwriting is fantastic and they have such great talent for arrangements and doing what's right for the song. It seems to me Tobias Forge is someone that genuinely loves the classics (metal and rock) and it shows...but the stuff doesn't sound contrived at all. I mean, sure, there are homages scattered around, but the craft that goes in the songs is undeniable (well, for me  :))

Note that I didn't mention anything about the whole Ghost lore...I do think it's fun, but honestly I couldn't care less if they had that or not. In fact, sometimes I think whatever they gain in more "mainstream" exposure from being a more theatrical band, they probably also lose a bit as there might be a perception they are not "serious" (not saying that's the case for you...just talking from my own experience talking to friends)

What is it that you don't like about them? They just leave you cold? Or do you actively dislike them?

So when they opened for Iron Maiden on TBOS tour, I familiarized myself with their set. I actually liked the songs and I thought the band was awesome, both in playing and in personality. The BAND really sold me with their performance. I was not a fan of the singer's banter between songs. It was a real turnoff.
I did buy the live album they made after that tour and have only listened to it once.

I don't know. Everytime a new song is released and posted, I check it out, but I just find them largely underwhelming.

Nick, I'll put this to you...can you recommend an album to me? I can't promise I'll follow up but I will try. And no, that's not an open invitation for everyone to flood me with recs. :lol

My favorite album of theirs might be Meliora, and it's quite well represented on the live album, along with the first two records (Meliora is their third). So, maybe try that one out.

Although, really, it's hard NOT to recommend their last two (Prequelle and Impera). Like I said, a little more easy-listening and "lighter" on the sound (not that the previous records were monstrously heavy...), but absolutely killer.

Who knows, maybe you'll be hooked and you'll go for the rest too  ;)
