As much as it pains me to post this...pretty sure I'm on 12 points, not 13. :lol

And I just realised why Chad did the rankings straight up - so we couldn't check his alphabetting skills  :lol

Now we just have to double-check his posts to make sure he can count to 11 properly. So far so good.

@ Dave... What an honest chap you are.  I had a last minute switch - literally, as I was posting the results - to put Zook ahead of you.  Tell ya what, 1 bonus point for honesty.  And I owe Zook a point.

@ Brent ...

Tastes!  Hell, you liked The Reflex better than The Angelmaker so yeah... Tastes!
You have the memory of an elephant too, so I know you will never let me forget that. :-*

Not really, I just like using spreadsheets.  My memory is shit.  Just ask Mrs. Jingle.

You know, I'm sitting here picking out the next song to send you and I'm thinking about the songs I was sent in my roulette. I can remember most of them, even the ones I haven't explored further yet and the ones I didn't like too much. The Angelmaker? I can't remember a single note. :rollin

I've sent my next song aswell. Email this time since it's not on Spotify.

Fair enough.  Angelmaker was my first Seventh Wonder song (and not in the context of a roulette), so it struck a chord with me.

Random thoughts:

- Different from anything else. Probably the most fun song of the round
- This will unfortunately suffer from being outside my normal comfort zone that I can't rate it too high.

mine could be one of two comments.  One is good (seemingly).  One is not.  :lol

well, those were the two I was thinking of.  And I picked correctly as mine was the "good" comment.  But my song ranked lower than the one that ended up with the "bad" comment.  :lol
Winger would be better!

I think when it comes to progressive metal for me, the earlier I heard a band the better. As time goes on I just get harder to please when it comes to any style of music, but progressive rock/metal seems to be the worst. It's the stuff that's a little more out-of-the-box that makes a better first impression. Had I heard The Great Escape when it first came out in 2010 I'd probably be a fan of the album now. I might still end up becoming one - I haven't listened to it at all yet - but it'll be an uphill battle.

clearly there's a huge Nightwish influence in play.

I agree, that's kinda why I sent it. :lol Anyway, I'm fine with 7. Consistent middle of the pack scores was what allowed me to win the last roulette with this ranking system (well, that, and two rounds I won there too).

I can agree with Chad on Shineback, I didn't enjoy this song too much when I've got it in my roulette.

Will send either today or tomorrow.

The most surprising thing for me is that Brent seemed to like it. When these roulettes started, I was expecting the reactions to be the other way around. :justjen

How long have you been holding on to Temperance? This is good stuff.

I'm very happy with that score. I agonised over whether to go with a prog metal track or the ballad, but I felt the ballad worked better out of context of the opera.
Sent for the next round and doubling up with a risky female fronted track playing on your love of sass Jordan.

Alright, sent a song by unknown Italian symphonic power metal band with eight musicians in their roster, from one of my favourite albums of 2014. This roulette makes me dig really deep in my collection... first Rustfield, then Temperance, then this. It's a really great song though.

Looking forward to the impressions and results!

Ok, this time around, no teasing on the score - I know where things are standing.

0.5 Bolsters - Shineback / Rise Up Forgotten, Return Destroyed
This one has some really wanky guitar work - I'm really not sure what to make of the guitar effect, and have no words to describe it - literally I've been searching for the right word for a few days, but can't find it.  Squeeky?? … like the guitar strings are made of elastic rubber, and not conductive metal??  That's about as good a description I can come up with. Vocally very nice, but that squeeky-ness of the main melodies didn't click - really didn't click.  Good production, good drum work, and 'normal' guitar sound was nice.  Solo/instrumental wankfest was enjoyable, but the whole thing had me put off by that weird guitar effect.   :\

Chad, you  are so off my Christmas card list.

(in answer to your query about the guitar tone, Simon Godfrey's work on Shineback was to blend pop, electronica, and prog rock, a daunting task which he did a flawless job of)

Phew... no one used tag team option - only 11 songs.  It's a long weekend, so I just might get results up sooner than Tuesday.

Here's the deal... November 6th, my two most anticipated albums of the year come out, so I want to have this all wrapped up by then.  I've also got 2 straight weeks of travel in between now and then.  So, I've got two options:

1. Drop this to a 6 round competition.
2. Accelerate - you guys have to submit quicker, I'm going to listen quicker (maybe only 4-ish listens for each tune), and shorter writeups.

Vote now.  Which would you prefer?  Majority rules.

Round 4 listening starts now.

Um, I'm all for quality over quantity, so I guess 6 round competition is my choice. Though I'm enjoying this roulette a lot, so I don't want it to happen.

I'm also going to use my tag team option either in the next round or the round after it.

We have to send "Whoomp! There It Is" as an entry at some point?

My vote is that it is not pushed down to 6 rounds. Four listens each isn't so bad and I'm going to submit relatively quickly regardless.

But I'd be perfectly happy if it was shortened also, since it may give me a better chance of finishing well.

Well, we're at the mid point right now, and I'm not looking to take a 6-week hiatus.

As I look at the calendar, if I can accelerate each round by 1 day - and do them in 6 days start to finish, that'll leave me right in the beginning throws of the FINAL FOUR (or three) the first week of November.  So, if everyone can submit within 24-ish hours after I post results, we'll be good to continue on as is.
