I liked OU812 back when it came out (and saw them on that tour also) but it did NOT age well.  Finish What Ya Started was never one of my favorites from the album.

Dumb... that's actually the With AND Without you.  Dumbass doesn't know the principle's of a Venn diagram.  That would actually be the place that Bono CAN live.

Actually, the place where he CAN live would be the union of the sets.  With OR Without You.  So either circle, or their intersection.

The area where he CAN'T live would be the universe minus the union of the two circles.

Michael Sembello - Maniac

I believe this was the first video ever to feature nothing but scenes from the movie is was featured in.  Not a bad little song, and based on the scenes in the video, one that clearly was perfect for the movie (I never saw Flashdance).

Memory of this video is basically how people were all up in arms because Jennifer Beals used a dancing double for all the scenes where her character danced, and it was really, really bloody OBVIOUS, especially if you watched this video and watched how the female character's figure kept changing from shot to shot.  :lol I never had a problem with it, but they really didn't try very hard to find a dancer built like Jennifer Beals.

And then a couple of years later she took flak for using a body double for the sex scenes in another movie-was it the Frankenstein thing with Sting? If people thought empty headed entertainment news only began in the 21st Century, have I got some news for you!

Can never hear this song without thinking about Chris Farley in Tommy Boy.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XMHluTrbVcI

The ending part of that scene was gold.

Lowe:  Did you eat a lot of paint chips when you were a kid?

Samantha Fox - I Only Wanna Be with You

This wasn't her most popular hit, but I thought it was by far her best.  Entertainingly fun video, too, where her super hotness was on full display.  Call it cheeseball pop if you want, but this song has hooks galore!

I don't remember a note of her music.

But I had every single nude photo she ever did back then. And back then, boys and girls, that wasn't a case of turning off safe search on Google Image Search.  :rollin

Survivor - The Search Is Over

A friend I worked with years ago used to talk about how much he loved this song and how it was his favorite of all of the 80s ballads.  Call him corny, but I can see how a child of the 80s would love this song to pieces.  It has some really good melodic hooks, but it never really was a song I was crazy about.  I don't remember the video.

Vaguely remember the video, typical 80s fare. But I loved this song, probably was one of my top ballads from my childhood.

An amazingly solid album, but this one's an average filler track imo. Not bad, and it's a song I will listen to in the grand scheme of the album, but not a song that interests me on its own.

I've never seen the video. I'm guessing the video isn't worth watching?

Like Blob said.  Song to song on Vital Signs is a top notch album.  Blob video is sappy.  don't bother.

One of their weaker song imo. Nothing can top Eye of the Tiger

True.  Everything is pretty weak compared to Eye of the Tiger.  As sappy power ballads go, though, it's not bad.

Richard Marx - Don't Mean Nothing

While not as popular, his career trajectory kind of reminded of Bryan Adams: made a splash with a rocker, had a hugely popular ballad, and then continued down the ballad route and became known for his sappy songs more than anything else.  But that aside, this was a good rocking song when it first came out; I liked it quite a bit.  I won't say it hasn't aged well, but it isn't one that really draws me in anymore.

The only thing I really remember about Richard Marx is that his wife Cynthia Rhodes was really hot, and the videos in which she appeared were always better than the rest.  His music was pretty generic 80's stuff, and I honestly don't remember much about it.

Good enough song for its time, but it just didn't age well at all.

Thing that always made me kind of chuckle about Don't Mean Nothing was, not only did it sound rather shamelessly like the Eagles, it featured Joe Walsh on guitar as well as Randy Meisner and Timothy B. Schmidt on backing vocals. I guess if you're going to go for a familiar sound, it doesn't hurt to use the people who made that sound. Richard Marx was huge for a while-his first two albums were monsters-but I imagine these days he's mainly known for the sappy ballads.

Having all that one song don't mean nothing.

Sorry, it had to be done.   I think his best album was his third.  Rush Street.

Steve Winwood - Valerie

I wasn't a fan of the stuff he did in the latter half of the decade, but Valerie is definitely a really good song.  I actually prefer the remixed version that was released in '87 a little more than the original; the original is a little slower.  But either way, this is definitely a well-written tune, and it's funny how that singular keyboard note is the hook in the song.

TBH, I can't even remember what Hagar era songs even had videos, because they were all pretty dull imo. The only cool one I remember is "Runaround", which captured that VH fun again.

The video for "Right Now" was pretty memorable.

Valerie

Sometime in the 80's, the band self-destructed and I moved back home with my parents.  It turned out that during my time away, Valerie, the little girl next door who I used to babysit, had grown up.  Very nicely, in fact.  It was summer, and she used to spend every afternoon on their deck, tanning.  My bedroom was in the back corner of our house, basically overlooking their deck.  It seemed like she had a new bikini every week.  One time, she was adjusting the straps, trying to figure out how to do the thing where you untie it but set the strings so that they don't leave tan marks, and she realized that she'd introduced a half-twist somewhere in there and there was no way.  In frustration, she just took it off, straightened everything out, and lay it upon her.  Summertime, middle of the day on a weekday, nobody's home, right?
