So I've listened to 5 of them so far...

Black
Violet
Indigo
Green
Red

Though I think my favorite song between the five is Lillian.

Got three of my friends into the Dear Hunter last night by showing them a few of the Color Spectrum songs. :metal

I'm still in love with the Canopy, it's such a happy track.

Seriously.  Most album releases in my life have been a huge burst of awesomeness that fades away with time.  This time around I loved three EPs and was meh about the rest, and now I love all of them.

Still holds a 4.6 average on sputnik. That's ridiculous.

It's holding a 4.21 on RYM, which is really really good. Only 38 ratings so far, but the average has actually been increasing as time goes on! :tup

Man, after this, it'll almost be a shame to see them go back to their "usual" style with Act IV.

They should really do an album of all electronic stuff, in the vein of Black and Indigo.
I only like ablums that I can xanascholithoun.

I think I remember Casey saying that some of the elements of this album may carry over to the Act series, though it will mostly be in a similar vein to the previous ones.

I've listened to Black, Red, Orange, Yellow, and half of Green so far. I cannot believe how good this is.

Can't wait to hear what all the fuss around Blue and Indigo is about!

Yeah I think it needs to stay mostly in line with the others, but the most important thing is that the music fits the story. A large part of what makes them so amazing is that the music is perfect for what is happening in the narrative.

Anyway, revised rankings:

Violet
Black
Red
Green
White
Indigo
Orange
Yellow
Blue

But it's all amazing!

Which songs would those of you who've listened to the complete collection say sound the most like they belong an Act?

Probably the songs on Violet and White. They're the most typical TDH stylistically, if that makes sense.

Out of the ones I've heard, Lost But Not All Gone seems pretty classic-TDH.

So my plan has been to wait until I have a few more dollars set aside and just get the full Color Spectrum set, but patience has never been my strong suit.  If I were to grab a few of the eps now to tide me over, which one(s) should I get?  Or is getting the full set the only way to go?  My favorite of the main series is probably Act I if that makes any difference, but what I'm hearing about a more electronic sound on a few of the eps intrigues me...

You gotta get the full thing.  I do listen to them separately sometimes, but the best way to experience them is from beginning to end.

I think the BEST way to listen is to get the full set... but if you're only getting a few, the electronic sound is most prevalent on Black and Indigo and the one that sounds most like Act I era TDH is Violet, so those 3 might be a good starting point.

I don't know what it's like there, but here in the UK the full set is only the price of 2 or 3 EPs. You might as well get the full lot.

Ah it's changed here. It was £6.99 per EP or around £14 for the whole thing, but now it's £3.16 per EP and the complete collection isn't available on Amazon. Although that could be due to the problems with the glitchy files!

EDIT: On play.com it's still £6.99 per EP or £6.99 for the complete collection. Madness! Although again the glitchy files make it not worth it.

That sounds very strange.  Are you sure the cheaper price isn't for the 11-track version?  I've seen that getting mixed up in a few places...

I think my love of this is growing exponentially with each listen.  I'm in the process of writing an in-depth review, so I'm quickly becoming more and more intimately familiar with all of these songs... and I don't ever want to leave.

I wasn't a huge fan of TDH before this, but now that Zack showed me the Color Spectrum, I can tell this has a really good chance of being in my top 15 albums ever.

And now I am going to see them in August.  :hat
