And please, I hope they haven't gone towards the Crusade style and dropped a lot of screaming.

???  I don't understand.  Why wouldn't you want them to improve?

Not taking you seriously bro!!

Anyway - the new song gets better with each listen and there's another new song on August 20th.

Also they've released the tracklisting and it's a 10 track disc.

I hope they are long songs because In Waves was 13 songs with an intro. I don't want to get bored of the new album too soon.

Yeah, 10 songs is their shortest album to date in regards to song length if I'm not mistaken.  New song is okay, let's see.

I would like the new song a lot more if there was a little more harsh vocals - the verses would have worked very well that way, I think. Musically, it's pretty great though, love the solos.

^ Whilst I do agree to some extent. . .

The section with the harsh vocals in " Brave This Storm " is a stand out section that would lose some of it's impact if the whole song was delivered like that.

So I've been getting into this band quite a bit. Really loved Ascendancy and In Waves when I listened to them, and now I'm finally getting around to listening to Shogun

...oh my god this album is on a whole new level than anything i've heard before from this band  :metal :metal

I think it sucks.

Guitar tone is way too tinny and it hurts to listen to. Vastly prefer Brave This Storm.

I think it's pretty fucking ordinary too.  Much prefer Brave This Storm.  Fuck I hope this is not another Crusade.

I'm hoping that Strife is kinda like the Built To Fall of this album.

I'm not gonna buy this album on release day now though. Going to listen on Spotify first.

I don't want another "Crusade" either.

Oh well.  At least we have In Waves.

I think I still prefer Shogun by a hair, Heafy's harsh vocals are better on In Waves, but some of the songs feel like they were custom built for the radio, which while not a bad thing kind of takes away from some of the other songs on the album.

I don't care for Shogun as much, but I can easily see why others might.

I have tried to get into Shogun many times but apart from Kirisute Gomen and Down From The Sky - not a whole lot of it grabs me the way In Waves did.

To be honest - it kinda reminds me of people saying they prefer And Justice For All to Metallica. It's kinda the same reason.

AJFA is long and technical whilst Metallica is short and concise and radio friendly.

I wonder if Trivium were deliberately trying to make their " black " album.

I wouldn't say that's a stretch, and I think it's cool that they did, but this stuff is not sitting well with me :s First song sounded like Disturbed, and this second song didn't sound good at all either.

Yeah - at least they haven't gone southern rock on us :lol

But if this new album is not very good then we still have In Waves to listen to.

Strife has awful sonics too. Either it's clipped like a mofo or the guitars are just too fizzy.

Ascendancy is still no 1 for me.

Shogun is a close second, and In Waves comes just after that.

I've been spinning the two new songs in the car and they both have grown on me, I like them a lot.  But the production is bugging me.  I generally am not fussed with production, but the production and mix here sound like absolute crap.  If Trivium release it sounding like this, it won't do it any favours IMO, it sounds really, really bad.  In fact demo like production and some of the weakest I think I've ever heard.

It is a shame after the frankly stellar production of In Waves.

Obviously - Trivium aren't gonna talk down their latest album - but I would not be surprised if they gradually let slip that they're not too happy with it.

- Just not in a blatant way - more like something democratic like :

" Looking back - we realised that Draiman and us wanted to go in different directions and we perhaps weren't ready for it. " Yadda Yadda.

Which is usually band speak for " Yeah - we don't like how it sounds. "

But really - " Strife " is fizzy, thin and tinny as shit. The mix is a real let down. But i'm still gonna check out the album.

I'm okay with the songs.  I want more variety in the album, but they are solid.  But I can't get past this production.  I actually hope they do something with it before the release.

Trivium release third song from Vengeance Falls.

Still really unsure about the new stuff.

This one sounds like it was a leftover from Ascendancy.

Actually i've just realised it sounds a bit like Machine Head with Heafy on vox.

Yeah not so sure myself...It maybe because I'm getting just a little tired of metal nowadays but all the new stuff from this album just sounds the same or uninspired or something. A lot of the vocals actually do remind me of David Draiman :)

It's decent enough but nothing special.  Looks like this album will be the bands weakest since Crusade, if not their weakest overall.

The songs are all weak as hell and the production stinks.

This album so far is a *massive* step backwards from In Waves.

Just finished my first listen of the new album. I'm pretty disappointed by it. Draiman or not, it seems like they've run out of ideas. The only really good track is Strife. Also, they did a great job on the Misfits cover.

I'll give it a couple more listens but it looks like this'll be one of my biggest disappointments of the year along with the new Megadeth and A7X albums.

6/10

What does that even mean?  Every Trivium album has been incredible with the exception of Crusade which was still decent enough.  In Waves came off of the awesome Shogun, so I don't know why you would call it a fluke.

Yeah, I don't know what you're on about. Both Ascendancy and Shogun are far better than In Waves could ever be, and Ember to Inferno isn't far behind, though In Waves is pretty great as well.

I mean, I know what you mean, since you've told us your opinion on Shogun and In Waves plenty of times, I just still don't agree.
