Yeah, I'm with YtseCullen and wolfking.  I liked In Waves a lot.  But Vengeance Falls is better.

FTFY.

But in all seriousness, I'm with Kotowboy, hardly memorable, and in some parts emulating Disturbed. I got rid of this album after two attempts at listening. In Waves (while I don't like it as much as Shogun) is miles better and is pretty radular to boot.

Eh, whatever.  To me, this album and a few others saved 2013 for what was otherwise becoming a year of mostly unmemorable, mediocre releases.  After being the worst year for new music in recent memory, Dream Theater, Fates Warning, Trivium, and a few others really redeemed 2013.  This is definitely in my top 5 for 2013.  Possibly top 3.

That's the first thing you've said all day that made any sense.  I guess you aren't completely hopeless.

Hmm. Well, I'll listen to Vengeance Falls with an open mind, but In Waves is one of my all time favorite albums, and I don't foresee that changing.

I could be surprised, though.

I've got Bosk on my side I must be right,  :lol Seriously though, VF is slightly more of a mainstream metal compared to their previous releases, which I'm assuming is in part to Draiman's influence, but I like this a lot. The only track that grabbed me on In Waves is the title track. I found more memorable melodies on this one compared to IW. That being said It's all subjective to one's opinions and tastes. Mine seem to coincide with Bosk's where as Mr. Oakes and DC seem to share similar tastes, so no need to argue because no one is truly right here. :)

"Watch The World Burn" or "All Those Yesterdays"

To be honest I never really cared for these two songs, and ATY is one of my least fav Trivium tracks.

VF is just solid and better from start to finish.  In Waves always sounded a bit all over the place to me and it was like the band trying to mix every single different style they have ever done, but really IMO it came across quite random and without direction.  Saying that, it has a couple of songs that a better than a lot of VF, mainly the title track and Ties, but VF is just fucking solid from start to finish and at least the band had a specific direction in mind, whether it's Draiman influenced or not.
Everyone else, except Wolfking is wrong.

Finally getting around to hearing VF and I'm liking it. Honestly I can't remember a bloody song off In Waves but the title track, and I bought it the day after I saw them open for DT. Think some of the complaints really are DAVE DRAIMAN PRODUCED IT IT SOUNDS LIKE DISTURBED...which, if it does, means I need to buy some Disturbed. Good album. It's no Shogun, but it blows In Waves into the middle of next week.

What is it people dislike about IW ?

I instantly loved every moment of it and still do to this day in a way that no other Trivium album has done.

Dude, I think you need to get over that people share different opinions.

I don't think anyone has said that they flat out dislike IW, we just like VF more, there's a difference.  My last post gave some of my thoughts as to why I like it better.  I also found a lot of the songs on IW not very catchy or memorable, but still good.

:) i'm just curious - since I think *technically* there's more to like about IW.

I just think it *sounds* better overall and is easier on the ear. :)

As I said - I hated VF at first but It grew on me quite a lot but to me it sounds like an album of songs which didn't make IW.

Well for me, it had one memorable song in the title track and a bunch of songs that, hilariously enough, seemed like leftovers from the previous THREE albums. That's the thing with opinions, everyone's got one.  :rollin

 :lol fair enough !

I wasn't really into Trivium before IW - but then I heard the title track and it instantly just sounded like the best thing they'd ever done.

I liked Ascendancy back in 2004 or 5 but thought The Crusade was poor ( i'm not alone there ) and could never get into Shogun at all.

In Waves just sounded really focused to me. Kind of like when Metallica followed up And Justice For All with Metallica.

Is "Vengeance Falls" what Metallica should have done in 1994 instead of taking a dramatic U-turn and doing Load ?

Or did Metallica do the right thing by changing their style drastically and challenging their audience ?

If there was an album between Metallica & Load which was the bridge between the two - would Load have been more accepted ?

Heafy said once that " If Trivium ever do their Black Album that they won't do Load or Reload " :lol

With all the negativity in this thread I was expecting Vengence Falls a massive shitbag.  Just got it yesterday and I like it after two listens.  Maybe I should only need negative reviews before hand so every album ends up surprisingly good.

Reviews don't sway me at all. I've read diabolical reviews of albums before that i've ended up loving. :dunno:

And whilst VF didn't do anything for me on 1st listen - it has gotten better with repeated spins. :)

The Crusade is more of a "Trivium Metallica album" than Vengeance Falls, IMO.

Came here to post this.

He was shit and didn't deserve to be in the band.  He sucked live too.  They should really bring back Travis, he was the fuckin' man.

Im with bosk on this one.
This album was the first Trivium one I could listen to all the way through. And it DID help save 2013 though, I had a great list of albums that I thought did 2013 credit.
And negative reviews here are usually an excellent place to start for good music. This place has a clique'y all 4-4 is garbage way about it.

my other 2013 highlights:

Soilwork - The Living Infinite
Persefone - Spiritual Migration
Powerwolf - Preachers Of The Night
Semantic Saturation - Solipsistic
Amon Amarth - Deceiver of the Gods
Death Angel - The Dream Calls For Blood (nice feel for a slayer type band almost sounds a bit like Sebastian Bach early Skidrow sometimes)
Bullet For My Valentine - Temper Temper
Take care everyone - Bet you all didn't even notice I was gone.

Happy Lives to you all.
