I'm content for now.  Let me soak in In Waves for a few months first.

Anybody catching them on the Defenders of the Faith european tour?

They're playing with In Flames, should be a great night. I've had a peak at some setlists and they look very good. Although they suggest In Flames have a much longer slot than Trivium, despite them being the 'Special Guests'.

I also checked out Rise to Remain that are supporting, and their latest record City of Vultures is certainly worth a listen.
Also another 2 support bands, Insense and Ghost. Insense don't really do much for me, but Ghost might be interesting to see live. Over the top satanic stuff that could be quite amusing.

Not bad for £25

Gadough, I have to hand it to you.  This band easily wins the "Has Grown On Me The Most This Year" award.  At least for In Waves--I haven't checked out any of their older stuff.  I'm spinning this album a lot.

That's awesome! :metal

@MK_Ultra, I'm down for a Trivium survivor. I think there's enough interest in these guys to warrant one.

I alternate between In Waves, The Hunter, A Dramatic Turn Of Events, Tomorrow's World, Green Naugahyde, Unto The Locust, Lulu etc...

I definitely should give it more listens, it's a really solid record. After time has passed, though, I'd now say Shogun > In Waves = Ascendancy > everything else.

Haven't listened much to the album lately. The songs that I normally listen to are Drowning in Slow Motion, Inception of the End, Forsake Not the Dream, EEEEEEEEAT WIVES, and my favorite from all the album, Dusk Dismantled.

In Waves is my favourite of theirs. It seems the most focused and that production job is fantastic. Chaos Reigns has one of the best guitar tones i've ever heard.

I just started listening to In Waves.  I was hesitant because I didn't care for Shogun (so I didn't listen to anything since), but IW sounds very good.  I especially like the death vocals... much better than Ascendancy.  Hell, the album just sounds very good, production wise  :metal

I find the production to be exhausting. It's almost like they went (hell, of course they did, it's modern metal) LET'S MAKE EVERYTHING SOUND HILARIOUSLY PHAT FOR THE ENTIRE ALBUM. The kick drum and snare are insanely loud/cut through the mix too much, and everything just sounds too hyped.

I liked their approach on In Waves, but ultimately I prefer Shogun. Still, it's probably their second best.

The production was good, but I preferred Shogun's.

Why don't more people recommend "The Crusade" to the fans who don't like growls (like Bosk and others)? Wasn't that the album where they trimmed down their metal elements in order to go for more of a thrashy sound anyway?

Because it sounds absolutely nothing like the other 4 albums. It's good, but it's a completely different style. I wouldn't want someone to get the wrong impression of what they usually sound like.

The production on Death Magnetic is great, it's just that it's mastered too loud.

Incorrect. it's brittle and fizzly as shit. there's no oomph to anything.

Even the non-mastered version sounds horrible.

Compare the production to Reload to hear the difference.

Garage Inc Disc 1 production is light years better.

What? The kick, bass and rhythm guitars sound phat! Yeah, there might be a tad too much top end, but it's still huge. And you can't deny that the Guitar Hero version sounds a lot better.

No, it doesn't. It sounds shitloads better than Ember To Inferno, for example.

Does anyone know when IF and Trivum will come to the states? When I was talking to Heafy after the DT show, he was hinting at them coming in January.

So what's the difference between producing, mixing and mastering an album? Because I just use "production" as an umbrella term for anything like that.

Production can mean all or some of these things. Mixing is the setting of volumes of individual instruments, applying effects such as compression, EQ or reverb, and editing. Mastering can involve editing, track-wide EQ, track-wide limiting and compression, etc, but is also to do with volume. When I said production earlier I was referring mainly to the mix.

I'm sure they have, I'm also sure many people don't check for new threads that often, so without posts in threads they have already subscribed to, they forget about the survivor.

Anyway, I went and voted, but didn't break the tie, sorry.
