I just listened to Static Impulse yesterday. It was only my third time, and it was great! I want to familiarize myself with it now, before IR comes out.

It makes me feel like this new JLB album isn't breaking new ground and is just regurgitating things already done, starting with the artwork and title which have already been done by a band closely associated to Dream Theater.

Thats an awfully big assumption based off of things that have very little to do with the music.

Cover looks awesome! Can't wait for this.  :metal :metal :metal :cjs:

Good to see they're keeping the harsh vocals, I really liked 'em.

I'm not really into the screamy stuff.  But it does work in the context of the types of songs this band has done, and it's nice to have something different instead of just James doing what he does in Dream Theater.  Looking forward to this one.

You summed it up great.  I don't care too much for the screaming vocals but I did used to listen to that style a lot in my teenage years.  I don't mind it here as much because it does at least switch things up and if anything really adds to the emotion of what James sings.

Static Impulse had more balls than the past 3 DT albums combined.

Interesting theory, seeing as how you described Systematic Chaos and Black Clouds (2 of the past 3 DT albums) as being very "metal" albums about a year ago.  :lol

My description of them hasn't changed, either.  I still greatly enjoy those albums.  The fast paced nature of JLB's solo material (coupled with the persistant Wildoer growling) forms the basis of my theory.  All fun albums.   :tup
Don't know where you live, but if your ever in Berkeley, dinner's on me.  Thanks man!!!

No WAY!  I have an album coming out this year, too, with a very similar title.

Is Boba Fett still on bass? I liked what he brought to the band.

Can't wait for this! last two albums were great. elements of persuasion and static impulse have held up great for me! LaBrie has a good solo track record, and I'm confident that this could be one of the metal albums of the year even! :tup

That would be fantastic, although I don't see it happening.

Like I said, I'm just hoping they're at least used more sparingly. Like maybe to accent the choruses, or in partial phrases, like in "I Need You". But hopefully not for entire verses of songs.

The last song - "Electrophilic Addition".
"All great works are prepared in the desert, including the redemption of the world. The precursors, the followers, the Master Himself, all obeyed or have to obey one and the same law. Prophets, apostles, preachers, martyrs, pioneers of knowledge, inspired artists in every art, ordinary men and the Man-God, all pay tribute to loneliness, to the life of silence, to the night." - A. G. Sertillanges

And I'm not a hater of growls at all, I just don't think it fits here. I don't buy a JLB solo album to hear not JLB.

So maybe JLB should sing the songs a cappella....  ;D
