Maybe a snake. Violet was eaten by a snake named Jan.
I just don't understand what they were trying to achieve with any part of the song, either individually or as a whole. You know what? It's the Platypus of Dream Theater songs. That bill doesn't go with that tail, or that strange little furry body, or those webbed feet, and oh god why does it have venomous spurs!? And then you find out it lays eggs too. The difference is that the Platypus is somehow functional despite being a crazy mishmash or leftover animal pieces

June 4, 2013 (Los Angeles, CA) - After his much acclaimed "Static Impulse" release in 2010, Dream Theater frontman James LaBrie returns with a powerful new studio album entitled "Impermanent Resonance,"to be released August 6in North America and July 29 in Europe via InsideOutMusic.

"Impermanent Resonance" was once again conceived with LaBrie's songwriting partner for over a dozen years, Matt Guillory. Guillory not only took the leading role in composing the material, he also handled all of the keyboards and
background vocals.

The album's lineup is intact from the previous recording, featuring Marco Sfogli from Italy on guitar, Ray Riendeau (Halford, Machines of Loving Grace) on bass and Swedish drummer Peter Wildoer (Darkane, Majestic, Arch Enemy, etc.), who was a finalist in the Dream Theater drum auditions. Additionally, former Soilwork guitarist Peter Wichers came into the foldto contribute songwriting and studio guitars.

"To me this album incorporates and continues with the styles and musical direction that we have created with the previous releases," says James LaBrie. "The difference being that the music on this disc is to me a true telling of the songs evolving and taking on a sense of identity that is every band's ultimate goal. It is powerful, memorable, hook-driven and above all extremely musical. It shows how the writing and the band itself have matured. I truly feel that this is our quintessential album."

"Impermanent Resonance" was once again mixed and mastered at Sweden's Fascination Street recording studios (Kreator, Opeth, Paradise Lost, Symphony X) with Jens Bogren and this time also Tony Lindgren. Visually, Canadian LaBrie hooked up with Gustavo Sazes / abstrata.net (Arch Enemy, Firewind, Kamelot, etc.) to capture and translate the album's atmosphere into the striking artwork.

Some of the songs included on "Impermanent Resonance,"which combines the heaviness of Gothenburg-sound influenced progressive metal with the catchiness of contemporary rock, are "Agony," "Back On The Ground," "Undertow," "I Got You" and "Amnesia."

More details about the upcoming new album and first sound samples will be revealed soon...

"Impermanent Resonance" Line-Up:
James LaBrie - Lead Vocals
Matt Guillory - Keyboards, Background Vocals
Marco Sfogli - Guitars
Ray Riendeau - Bass
Peter Wildoer - Drums, Screams

Selected James LaBrie Solo Discography:
Keep It To Yourself (MullMuzzler) - 1999
MullMuzzler 2 (MullMuzzler) - 2001
Elements Of Persuasion - 2005
Static Impulse - 2010
Impermanent Resonance - 2013

I'm not really into the screamy stuff.  But it does work in the context of the types of songs this band has done, and it's nice to have something different instead of just James doing what he does in Dream Theater.  Looking forward to this one.

Me too. I can't listen to Static Impulse for the most part because of it. I like the deeper growls when they're used to back up JLB's vocals, such as the chorus of Jekyll or Hyde, but I don't want to hear whole verses of it, because it detracts from the songs imo.
And I'm not a hater of growls at all, I just don't think it fits here. I don't buy a JLB solo album to hear not JLB.
Only King could mis-spell a LETTER.
Yep. I think the only party in the MP/DT situation that hasn't moved on is DTF.

The album cover reminds me of Static Impulse and the album title reminds me of the Arch/Matheos album title.  I'm not saying that's good or band, it just reminds me of those things.

Did JLB record this simultaneously while recording the new DT.  He's been a busy dude.

Considering when this album is being released, i wonder if it will have any effect on the release of DT12.  I mean they probably dont want to release them too close together, but if this is at the beginning of august and DT12 was say at the end of september, does that seem like enough time to you guys? but then that only about a month until LALP, so everything is coming out in a very similar timeframe..

Same here. Very same words :D

If it's as good as Static Impulse or Mullmuzzler 2 than it's a sure hit for me.  :tup

:|Wish I was excited for this. The screaming nonsense and the way-too-heavy music makes the last album unlistenable to me.

I don't know why James does this. He doesn't seem like the kind of guy who even likes this kind of music. Makes him seem like he's trying too hard to be relevant.

James is a pretty metal guy. I'm fairly sure if he didn't like this kind of music, he'd do something else.

Yeah, DT may be his main gig but solo albums are where you get to do what you want.  It seems highly unlikely that he'd do a solo album of material that he doesn't even like, just to try to be relevant.  He doesn't need to do that at all.

Agreed with the above.  James has made it very clear for a long time that he really does like this type of music and he definitely knows and is into several bands in this sub-genre.

Its not like his solo band is a big hit either so that post is really ridiculous about JLB trying to be relevant.

Very excited about this album, the lineup is great, i loved the previous album and the addition of Peter Wichers in the songwriting is amazing for me being a Soilwork fan.

Just hoping we'll get a single soon.

Maybe an ode to the Arch Matheos album? I also think the Arch Matheos album cover has a similar theme like the burning/flaming body (JLB's has the flaming faces)

I saw this post, and got really excited! The only JLB solo album I have listened to and own is Static Impulse, but I like it enough (and am enough of a JLB fan :lol ) to want to get it.

Also, there's a song called "Undertow". There is another progressive metal band with a song of that title, isn't there? ;) It's like how both Haken and An Endless Sporadic (and Dream Evil, but that's not progressive metal) have songs called "Point of No Return".

You should at the very least look into either of the Mullmuzzler albums, or Elements of Persuasion (I'd vote for EoP, but that's just me as I'm on a total tear with it AND Static Impulse lately).
