I really hope they release a single soon, I'm interested to know in what direction they've truly taken this album.

Well Zack said that they will be performing a new song real soon.

I don't understand what's wrong with that cover, it's cartoony and kinda cool.

Couldn't agree more.  Sometimes, I just feel like Rich must be my long-lost, monacle and tophat wearing, Ribena drinking, union jack waving, "sexin' you later"ing, British brother.  It's like we share the same brain or something.

I dig the new direction. I think they went a bit overboard with Nightmare, but they were obviously in a really dark place having just lost Jimmy.

Actually most of that was written before he died.

Well, music-wise. A lot of the lyrics were completely rewritten and a few songs were written afterwards.

ALSO there's a rumored tracklist out there:

1. Hail To The King
2. Day Of The Salvation
3. Distant Questions
4. Adamant Blade
5. Ancient Prophecy
6. Trail Of Forsaken Misery
7. To Hail Andronikos
8. Warlord Demons
9. Gate Thunders
10. The Aftermath

If this WAS true, then I'd say they've finally created the concept album they've been talking about for a while.

Eh I don't like it. They claim it's a stripped down album but these titles are all over the top and filled with mythological connotations. Not to mention some of these titles are just downright silly. I preferred when they had the more modern religious undertones in their music, like with Beast and the Harlot and To End The Rapture. I dunno, I'm increasingly unhappy with a lot of these announcements and samples. Maybe I'm just outgrowing this band.

As for Nightmare, I liked it, sounded mature and was very emotional. I've never had chills like I had when hearing Jimmy sing on Fiction for the first time.

All that said, I like that they're (allegedly) taking a step back and stripping down their sound a bit. One thing from City Of Evil that I liked was the classic metal sound it had, would be nice to hear more of that.

Yeah, it's really good. More mature than what they've done up to now and I like the production, it sounds very crispy and clear.... (described in my own, non-expert words).....

A big pile of meh. The guitar solo is radular, but it felt by the numbers, especially the drumming.

This sums it up for me. Hopefully the rest of the album is a bit more adventurous. :)

It is okay, but the drumming is pretty meh.

I think it's the perfect single, it'll garner interest in the rest of the album and make people check it out to see if they do better! I like the song, it's got a decent feel to it, it's still nothing insanely special. I still got it off iTunes and am listening to it, each listen it's growing on me.

It's OK, more energizing than anything on Nightmare, but I'm just not interested in this band much anymore.

Nice song, though pretty straightforward. The little video clips seem to show a conductor though, indicated orchestral elements, which is quite exciting...

Sounds like an 80s metal song or something from a power metal band. Weird.
I felt its length in quite a few places.

Do we really need another band with a song called Coming Home?

I liked it and I don't listen to A7X much.

I would say though that the drums lacked........ balls  :\

But I like that kick drum sound.

You can definitely tell The Rev is gone. That sounds stupid to say, but Nightmare had The Rev's musical contributions, you can tell it was absent on this track.

I still liked it though

Rev seemed to have a good sense of melody and was probably the best songwriter. It's no coincidence that a lot of my favorites on the last two albums were his ideas and who knows what was his on City of Evil. I can already tell that he's going to be very missed on Hail to the King.

This.  I like the song, but the drumming...just...wow.  VERY simple and no variation whatsoever.  I don't get it.  AC/DC has more interesting drum tracks that than the one in song.

Based on what I've read it's possible that the band asked him to provide a very basic groove and nothing more.

I don't doubt that he's capable or that what you said is correct.  But the question still exists:  Why??  It doesn't sound interesting and doesn't give the song any punch or attitude.
