Thanks for answering Noxon!
It's great that someone from the fans has become so close to the band he (and we all) love, i guess it's like a dream come true in many ways.
I keep that you listen to the albums 'many many months' before the rest of us, so that gives me to understand it won't be somewhere near that we'll get to hear the new one.
But your excitement came through your latest post, so that makes everyone here excited and anxious.
But i get your point that what you do feels very lonely at times.
If I had heard an album so extraordinary, qualitative and beautiful i don't know how i would be able to keep my excitement for myself.
And that seems to be the case for DT16, from what i perceived from your comment.
I anticipate a SFaM shocking kind of album.
And the fact that we literally know nothing about it, except for the fact that it is already finished, drives us crazy.
I guess it's the calm before the storm as they say..

Sorry, this hypothesis was a mistake.

Here's hoping we, at least, get the announcement this year  :(

Yeah, I'll just stop letting myself anticipate a announcement this year, and just be surprised if we just so happen to get one lol

About this new album, perhaps it will be an announcemnet October 20th 2024, first concert's day of the 40th Anniversary Tour.

Maybe Mike will announce the new album info at 6:00 on Christmas morning.

Quote from: noxon on September 21, 2024, 01:25:40 AMIt feels very surreal that a guy from little Norway has become so connected into the Dream Theater family that I am privileged enough to be involved in the processes around the band. It is a daunting task, and sometimes very lonely because I so badly want to share my excitement with someone and I can't. And when I can listen to an album many, many months before the rest of the world I feel very honored even if this has been true for 25 years now.

When you work with someone for 25 years, of course the relationship changes a bit. It's most definitively a friendly relationship. If you watch my YouTube interviews with them, what you see is natural and unprepared, it's basically me having a conversation with some friends on camera.

@Nox, hey you think you could share your story on how you in fact became so close with the band and your history. I know I would find it a fascinating read. :justjen  :corn

Do you have an interview from the last 12 months? Or any coming up? I'd be interested to see/hear it

There was the book interview a couple of weeks back:

Or perhaps nothing this day.

It's almost confirmed by Noxon.
Since the band has been so cryptic about their new album, and since they are starting their anniversary tour (in 2 phases), they wouldn't want the announcement for DT16 to take away from the anticipation for the tour, nor the fans to ask them all the time about it.
Now it's the time for the tour, and will be at least until late March. Their focus is there and they almost certainly have a big big production to support, and so many details regarding, the tour.
My prediction is that their mind is on the upcoming tour solely, as they should, and they aspire to rekindle the flame for their new-old lineup and to give the fans the best experience possible.
They don't want to ruin neither the tour, by announcing the album now, nor the album, by announcing it and jump right to the tour without even mentioning it again for 4-6 months until its release, it would be so anticlimactic for the fans excitement about it.
Plus, since they obviously want the new album to drop as a surprise for their fans, it is impossible that they play anything from it on their anniversary tour. It's not a simple album like all their previous ones, it's a statement album about what they are capable of with this lineup.
Everything is different compared to 'A View', we shouldn't think in the same terms as we used to think when a new album was created in the past.
Their secrecy makes me believe this is THE album. They may be very late after MP rejoined the band, but I'm sure they didn't waste all these 11 months doing nothing.
They probably have had many conversations about what they wanted to create, how they wanted the album to sound like, and they probably have had many brainstorming sessions. And i guess when they entered the studio they already had a very clear vision of where they wanted to go and how to achieve it.
You could say that they have skyrocketed my expectations, and i am expecting an I&W/ SFaM kind of album, nothing less.
So we are all looking forward to their most ambitious album in years, probably ever.
And we all remember what happened the last time they felt they had something to prove, right after Falling into Infinity..

noxon

I never said that there wouldn't be info until after the tour....

Yeah, that was a very interesting time to be a DT fan, there was so much talk about the band before and after the album came out, more than the usual talk because of MP leaving and MM arriving.

No, I mean before.

However, to your point one could say to some sliver of the fan base, they needed to prove themselves each time they made an album that did not have Portnoy on it.

I was making that remark because I'm a ADTOE hater lol, I'm not a MM hater!

Anyway, it's of no use to get worried. The precedent recording's album started on October 2020, and the band made an album's announce nine months later, at the end of July 2021. perhaps it will be the same scenarii for this new album.

Progmaniac1988

I think the wait is driving the forum crazy fresh into conspiracy mode 😂, I'd say let's just be excited for the tour, and I'm sure the album announcement will come before we know it. Noxon never gave specifics, just said "probably not anytime soon" that to me I take as "not in the immediate future". I'd say information could drop anytime from right before the tour and on. After loving this band for more than 26 years of my life now I can confidently say they usually have a pretty well thought out plan in place for album release cycle! There are no fans like DT fans I gotta say haha.

Jamesman42

There's so much other music and new releases and so much back catalog of DT music to keep occupied with, just check in to see if there is anything new but don't go crazy :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :)

I haven't stepped into this side for weeks, the hype is real.  :lol   I have zero anticipation and couldn't care less when we get updates but so good to see the love for the band is still so real!

I know you probably can't say much about anything, but I thought I'd ask anyway: Do you have any info on upcoming LNFA releases or when are they going to restart? (assuming they plan on continuing with them)

Schurftkut

that they needed to produce themselves instead of what the record company wanted to be succesful. Though i think now that MP is back, at least the music has been co-polited by him, but an outside producer who understands their music is still on my bucketlist for an upcoming album.

RoeDent

Will you refuse to listen to the new DT album if it includes any AI elements? In any aspect of its creation, from music to artwork to videos?

That's a strange, random question.  Who are you asking?  And why does it matter?
