Quote from: TheLordOfTheStrings on September 10, 2024, 10:27:21 AMIf memory serves they released OTBOA just a few days before their first show with Mangini (I was at Disneyland that day and I made my wife, who was my girlfriend at the time, completely stop what we were doing and I sat next to the Walt/Mickey "Founders" statue so I could hold my phone to my ear and listen to the song lol), so it's totally not out of the realm of possibility that they release a single before the tour, even if it's within a week.

That being said, InsideOut clearly does things differently than Roadrunner, so maybe I'm just wishfully thinking.

Checking wikipedia, OTBOA was released 11 weeks before ADTOE. For AVFTTOTW, "The Alien" came out just 10 weeks before the album. I think whenever the album DOES come out (and I still think it'll be a Jan/Feb 2025 release), they'll put out the first single about 10 weeks prior to release date.

My prediction is that the album will come out January 31st, a week before the first NA show in Philly, with the first single in mid-November. If the album comes out in early January, say the 3rd or 10th, they MIIIIIGHT release the first single just before the tour starts on October 20th in London, just so they could play it live. Or, they could just play it anyway and make it a surprise for fans of the first show with MP, and then release it online a week or two later.

Either way, we've got to remember this is a 40th Anniversary Tour, not a DT16 Tour. Even the NA leg is marketed this way, so even if the album comes out before the February Philly show, I don't think the setlist will change very much, perhaps maybe including one or two singles from the album if they weren't already featured in the EU tour. They'll probably do a late summer/autumn tour in 2025, specifically as a DT16 Album Tour, and feature all or most of the new material then.

I'm thinking first week of April for album release.

Yup.

OTBOA was released on June 29, 2011, and the first show with MM was July 4 (in Rome).

Like April 4th or 11th? If so, then the first single would probably be out either January 24th or 31st, just before the NA Tour leg. That would be QUITE the wait for the new album, but it would make SOME sense just to keep the focus on the Anniversary aspect of the tour rather than promote the new album.

Also, if they wait until April or later for the new album, would they start touring on it right away (like in late April or May), or give themselves a break, meaning an album tour wouldn't begin just after the album comes out?

If you told me that 11 months after the reunion the number of shows played was 0 and the number of new songs available was 0, I would have not believed it.

However, all in due corse, what it matters eventually is to get the album!

Same here. I don't even know what to say about it. I mean, I have no right to be aggravated, yet..

Keep in mind that MP announced his departure from the band on 9/8/10.  The first new music was released 294 days later, and the first show 5 days after that.

We're currently 321 days after the announcement that MP was returning.

In 2011, they had to spend time auditioning new drummers, but I recall that they were also almost 100% focused on DT.  No drummer auditions this time, but they all (except JM) had a bunch of other stuff going on.

If new music is released before the London show, then I'd say they're only negligibly behind the schedule from last time.

TheBarstoolWarrior

if the 40th anniversary tour ends in late March what does that mean for the DT16 release and subsequent tour?

This would be my guess. If they drop the album in April they can market a summer/fall tour as a DT16 tour. Who knows though, I haven't checked DT Discord in a while.

fadetoblackdude7

I highly doubt they'll wait as long as April to release it. My guess is January or February at the latest. But what do I know?

TheBarstoolWarrior

April would be insane. They have been done recording for a couple weeks, no? They're going to release it 7-8 months after the album is done?

i believe there's still an Asian tour to be done before the 40th tour ends

Progmaniac1988

I think single out before Europe Tour, and Full album will be out close before USA tour. That just makes the most sense imo.

I'm guessing Asia/Australia leg of the tour in April/early May. Then a break until July/August and proper album tour begins.

Schurftkut

you'd think they'd headline some festivals for sure after they missed them this year?

What do you mean, yet?  You'll never have a RIGHT to be aggravated.  It's not like they made any promises to anyone about when things would happen.

They'll happen when they happen.

Pretty funny to ask that when your answer is "I can be however I want."  :lol

See above where I said "you do you".  Go ahead and be irrationally agravated at people you don't know who have set no expectation that has not been met.  Go crazy, make a social media post about it.  I could honestly care less.

Ultimately the quality of the album is what's most important to me. However, in all honesty, with the passing of every month, my excitement about all things "reunion " ebbs just a little bit. And at my age I'm afraid I will have morphed into a non-metal liking country music fan like everyone else as old as me :D

I don't mind those (although I'm not sure I've ever heard an actual human say "ducky"), but "I was today years old when I found out..." makes me irrationally angry.  It sounds like something those football players voiced by little kids in the Gummi Bears commercial would say.

Quote from: BlobVanDam on November 13, 2015, 07:37:14 PMAs a basic rule, if you hate it, you must solely blame Portnoy. If it's good, then you must downplay MP's contribution to the band as not being important anyway, or claim he's just lying. It's the DTF way.
