Something I just thought about that I want from the new album. Unpredictable song structure. Those Dream Theater songs has allways been the ones to impress me the most and I think that is one part of it. Like In the Presence of Enemies, Octavarium, A Change of Seasons, Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence. Okey I do realize those are the four longest Dream Theater tracks ever but that concept of different song structures is what I want. And I don't think we will be getting any song of that length but still it would be nice to hear.

CM is a 10/10 for me.
Wow, a TEN? It's the only DT song on an album I would consider really bad. 3/10 on a good day, mostly because it's DT. I get the thing about different tastes and all, but 10 for CM is way beyond what I can understand, no matter what glasses I'm wearing. Probably the most boring song in my music library, by any artist.
On The Backs Of Angels on the other hand ---> awesome stuff. Can't wait for the new album. Not really much good music coming out these days, and everything on the radio is made by computer geeks. Hopefully ADTOE will be one of the best records in the next few years.

You're missing out on a ton of great new music.

Well, within the genres I really like (which is actually quite many), there's like 1-5 good albums coming out each year. Not a lot IMO. I find most metal extremely boring though, so I might miss out on good acts within those genres. Most of the music that comes out these days just sound very familiar. There's not really been any significant development for the better or worse since the 90's, and therefore the new stuff just don't sound exciting. IMO of course. Bottom line, things have to be very, very good within its genre these days to be worth buying.

Well I strongly disagree. There's so many great albums coming out this year... and in many genres too! I get the opinions stuff but sometimes you have to dig a bit to find the good releases. ;)

Are you kidding?! :lol

No, dead serious. Name me one band that originated in this godawful millenium that will be remembered in 20 years like the bands of the 60s and 70s are.

I have a strong feeling Haken will become the new progressive cult following.

The riff rocks, and I enjoy the back and forth in it.

And yeah the instrumental/solo section is really groovy and takes it from maybe a 5/10 up to a 7/10.

More like from an 8/10 to 8.5/10.

Then again, keep in mind that many of the albums we now consider classics didn't become instant classics, but they became such over time. I'm sure many rock fans were asking themselves the same thing back in the day... in a transferred sense. I don't think anyone can really anticipate a classic when it first arrives on the market.

Radiohead.

Also, music right now is better then ever. The number of quality bands making music these days is ridiculous. IMO :D

Uh . . . Radiohead's first album was in 1993. I don't think you read my post.

Agree. The thing is, there's so much fucking music out there it's likely to stumble upon loads of crappy music as well.

wammabe

Lots of good stuff out there. If you look in the right places, you might not even stumble across a crappy artist. The problem is, I don't know ANYONE that actually likes that stuff. The closest thing to progressive rock I've seen in a friend's ipod is Muse. Anyways, is there a thread about good music? I always love most bands that DT fans recommend!

Not to hijack the thread too much, but I pretty much agree with you. The past 3-4 years in music have been pretty dull for me, although 2000-2004 was very good. I have to dig really hard to find anything that interests me. It doesn't help that indie has become so big and I don't like almost any of it.

Yeah, that was a pretty good range of years.  I hate the new Rihanna/Katy Perry style stuff.

I think he means playing in Italy in the Spring again. I don't know though, tough to understand.

Also, that frickin New Zealand fan tribute showed up in the suggestions box after watching that video that chrisbDTM linked

What?  Are they that big?  They seem to be big among indie kids but otherwise I don't see it, and I even like them.  I'd think The Killers and Muse are better candidates for remembrance.

I absolutely LOVE Mike Mangini!! Dream Theater has a whole new world waiting for them in this new chapter.

And my god, if MM's sister started to cry from the new album it has to be epic.

Does JP said that the 2nd leg will be in spring?Or my ears are misleading me ;)

No, I heard that too. I mean, he specifically talked about Italy, but my guess is that the whole second European leg will take place in spring. Which is fine with me, as long as they re-visit Austria or Munich. ;)

And I agree, MM is a really nice guy. I'd love to have a chat with him after a concert (although I know that the chances for that are almost non-existent).
