I really, really, really like Mangini's input on OTBOA.

He didn't write the drum lines though. I think Petrucci did.

Jamesman42

Petrucci wrote the drums as a demo component, MM took that and added his own spin to it while staying true to what JP sent him.
\o\ lol /o/

JP wrote what he was looking for (which was basic), but Mangini added everything beyond the basic point. And we all know there is hardly anything basic on the drums for the song.

Trust this forum to focus on what he said about MP, not on what he said about the quality of the album and Beneath the Surface.  :lol

I appreciated reading Rich's comments on the album but I have no personal opinion on it yet because I havent heard it. However he also put that "We" would all like MP on the drums. It should have been "I". That is Rich's own personal opinion not all of ours - mine is that i'm glad MM is the drummer now because DT couldnt have continued as it was.

Hearing about how good a song is doesn't shock me. I almost expect it. :lol

Hearing that someone still wants MP behind the kit, on the other hand, does shock me!

emindead

I don't hate MP. But I'm not sad the way things turned out (nor would I change them).

JLB in that interview made the band look like if they were finally happy again.

For those of us who don't have access to the magazine, are there any other particularly interesting moments in the review?

Can you guys share what else has been said on this review? Now i'm curious about it.

cyberdrummer

It wasn't a full length review, just a post by Rich on the VoicesUK forum.

Lumiukko

I mean the review from Classic Rock Presents Prog. Is that the same?

Lumiukko

Lets wait for the Smeagol guy to tell us more about the Classic Rock Presents Prog review...  ;D

Not really. Lifting Shadows is a great book. But Rich's DT rankings are pretty fail, as far as I remember them (i.e., LiTS and ToT aren't included in FII's 'good' songs, the TA debut is better than BaF, etc).

Jirpo

When do you guys think the track lengths will be released?

They will be released when Nick stops deleting my posts.

Or exactly 3 weeks and 2 days.

What was the Rich Wilson post then?

Quote from: Rich WilsonWell they deserve some success with this album. It's a real grower and I think they've achieved what  they were aiming to produce - a "classic Dream Theater album". Of course we'd all like Mike there behind the kit, and in a funny way it almost feels disloyal for me to be liking this album, but you won't be disappointed. Beneath The Surface is one of the most beautiful things they've ever written.

Plus a Mike Mangini interview in Cove City too isn't it?

Xanthul

Yeah, I already preordered it there. It's a pretty nice store, they don't charge for shipping to a lot of countries (at least to Spain they don't).

Zydar

Apparently MP is going to do a guest spot on That Metal Show. Do you think Eddie Trunk's going to ask him about OTBOA and/or DT at all?

I hope it's more than that. If it's just TSCO, I might not get it. Unless it's extended by a good amount, or something. Or unless it has some live footage from the Black Clouds tour. That would be pretty sweet.

I hope so. But I doubt it.

Where will one be able to listen to and/or watch this show?

I don't know, I just saw this on his twitter:

"Gonna be fun joining my buddies @EddieTrunk, @realdonjamieson and @Mrjimflorentine for another guest spot on this season's That Metal Show"

Holy carp, you're right!
Maybe they changed the title to fit the album cover?
