sure people wont like him cause hes kinda robotic, but come on, the guy is intense

Like I said. DT doesn't deserve anyone that ever worked with Zappa. No one does. If Bozzio tells them he's playing for them, that's that. But one does not simply quantify themselves with Zappa.

Birch Boy

What do you mean?

I don't know whether you're just playing or you actually believe that DREAM THEATER is not worthy of TB.

sneakyblueberry

Geez, I love Zappa as much as the next fanboi, but saying that Zappa alumni are too good to play with any other musician is ludicrous.  Even more so considering the guys been dead for years; what the hell is Bozzio supposed to do the rest of his life?   Play that ginormous kit in his nan's back room?  Good God man.

But it's ok for Bozzio to work with Korn?  Or The Knack?

Hahahahaha Zappa is a god.  :|

ClairvoyantCat

Whatever they do, they should get a completely un-prog drummer and change styles completely.

Pirate

Okay we all know that I was totally joking about Bozzio. It's not like he's Zappa :neverusethis:

Fun Fact of the day:

My mom used to do stage lighting for Zappa. :metal

Fun fact: I dated your mom!

What if we got the drummer from Spinal Tap?

The Letter M

MARK ZONDER definately a great Fit.  It might bring DT back into a toned down more melodic feel. His drum style often involves an abundant amount of atmoshpere with the use the symbols in his kit and other various percussions.  MP was hell bent on keeping DT very heavy since ToT and I think Zonders style could definatetly be intruiging

skydivingninja

I checked this Mike Terrana guy.  Someone posted a link to this video in this thread.  I could see him fitting in.  Very proficient, and that intro...wow.  Too bad there are a couple of times where he's just playing standard rock beats in a bit flashier way, with more cymbal and double bass (his use of double bass is a little much sometimes).  But there are moments where it sounds like he could play around with a DT song.  Maybe a few more toms  ;)

Travis Orbin is all right.  Not amazing, but he's good.  Something's missing though.

Sorry LTE, not seeing how Thomas Lang could replace Portnoy musically.

Terry Bozzio is still really awesome and one of the best choices right now.

What about the 'this drummer is at the wrong gig' guy?

I think they may already have someone lined up, or well into the process of having someone lined up. I don't think they would announce such solid plans as going into the studio in January (only a few months away  :omg: ) and then a world tour if they hadn't begun the search. Unless they're going in the studio drummerless for a while, but ehh, I can't see that. Portnoy said he's been struggling with this for about a year, so who knows how long the rest of the band have known about this.

I hope they can find someone who still makes it sound like 'DT', but with a fresh and new twist, a true new chapter in the Dream Theater history :)

Still can't believe MP's gone though  :|

edit: seems that I'm totally wrong here, JP said this was a total shock and out of the blue :P :(

If you're going to make things up, people aren't going to take you seriously.

Who's the guy who works with Sherinian all the time on Planet X.

He gets my vote.

Not sure what you are talking about.  Just stating an opinion, you can just state why you disagree.

It is a message board. thanks.

The word 'was' states fact, not opinion.

Tick

I hope they choose someone no one has ever heard of and he blows our minds.

is it always him..or is Simon Phillips in there too?
I like Virgil...

No matter who it is....we DT fans are so critical...the old material will never sound the same.

That's my vote.  He is great at playing complex, yet still playing within a song.  He's an incredibly smart drummer.  However, he is a good 10 years older than JP and JM.  He's 52.  I'd like to see the guys pick someone a little younger if possible.

Joe Nevolo (Shadow Gallery) since they almost never tour... and have been described as "DT lite" at times or Jason Rullo (Symphony X)?

How bout Ted Kirkpatrick?
I was going to make this suggestion too.  Tourniquet hasn't done an album in 7 years.  I know a lot of peeps on this forum don't know him, but he's always been one of metal's most technical and creative drummers IMO.  For anyone interested, go to search Tourniquet on youtube or myspace for the songs "Immunity Vector" or "Viento Borrascoso" (that may not be spelled right).  Maybe I can throw some links up tonight when I'm not posting from my phone.

Your Mother

You're not funny.

I just watched some videos of Marco Minnemann and read about him on Wikipedia. Apparently, he does vocals in his projects as well, so that would also be covered. Plus, he'd bring some energy and spirit into the band.
He'd be my second pick after Mike Mangini.
