You might! ;D

You just wait........... ;D

Anyway, yeah this start ripping shit up in the second half.  Open Road was great and Mortal Eyes reminds of heavier Dimeo era.  Lost Dreams keeping the tempo.  Expecting a quality finish.

I'm actually listening to this right now too.  The first track is awesome!

Never heard of these guys but I'm going to give it a spin tomorrow.

You might! ;D

I did!  ;D

So, the new one is really good.  Definitely will be spinning it again.

Unleash the Fire was also really enjoyable.  It loses a bit of steam at the end but on a whole, very good.  AOL I'm struggling with.  Not much here really going for it IMO, nothing really grabbing me.

The Cleanbreak I felt like listening to some more Mike Flyntz and really, this is a pretty decent album.  While generic AF, it has some pretty good energy and held my attention.

Boys, I forgot to check in about Kerry King's latest. I actually liked it more than I thought I would. It's obviously very Slayer but I may have enjoyed it more than a few of Slayer's lower ranked albums (as in, my own personal ranking).

Gonna hit it a second time tonight, or tomorrow.

Orbit Culture - Nija

Last week. Perfect album after a shit day at work.

Last days:
Pallbearer - Minds Burns Alive / This will be probably be very high in my yearlist. They went deeper into the direction from Forgotten Days and it works. Main factor is songwriting. They know how to write a beautiful songs that have emotion, great melodies and balances between rock en metal elements. Guitars are great as usual.

Kerry King - From Hell I Rise / Decent but not very interesting. I'm not a thrashmetal fan so I don't see this one getting more spins

Ulcerate - Everything is Fire

Witherfall - Curse of Autumn

Blut Aus Nord - Memoria Vetusta I, II & III

Really enjoy it. I don't think it is as good as World Painted Blood or Repentless, but still very good. I generally love to rag on how sloppy Bostaph is, but he is pretty solid on this. Nice to see Kerry give Phil the space to do his thing. And, as I said regarding the singles, Osegueda floored me. No idea he could sing like this.

Black Dresses - LAUGHINGFISH

They say this will be their last album, and if that's so, they went out on a pretty high note in my opinion. I listened to it about four times yesterday when they surprise dropped it.

I really like that Cleanbreak album - in fact, it was a nice surprise in 2022 and I actually bought it. Yes, nothing out of the ordinary, but the melodies are strong and the guitarwork is very tasty.

Today:

Man, I enjoy Host so much. Please don't take this is as revisionist history - I've liked it since the moment I've got it, back in 1999 :) Is it one of the best PL albums? Not quite, but I like how it's still very much them, despite being wrapped in a different package. Lots and lots of Depeche Mode influence, circa Songs of Faith and Devotion/Ultra. The (lovely) strings and some of the synth lines, especially. They probably pushed the sound as much as they could here, and it's not surprising they slowly brought back the guitars over time. So many fantastic tunes, though. And Nothing Sacred is a TOP Paradise Lost song - I wish they'd revisit it live.

A few listens in, I think the new Unleash the Archer is good, but I don't believe it will match Apex/Abyss. I'll obviously spend more time with it, so I'm hoping it grows a bit.

Untrue is probably the best Black Sites album.  I played "The Worst of Us" in deepcut.fm a couple months ago and someone wondered if I was using it for wolfking's roulette.  Riffy prog metal, super downtuned but somewhat older-style production, a fascinating mixture.

Nick, you oughta check out Fellahin Fall if you haven't already, they have an intoxicating mixture of a few PL eras, plus some other influences.

I'm hardly a huge fan of WPB or Repentless, so I may end up liking this new KK more. I mainly hear God Hates Us All/Christ Illusion Slayer, I mean the album could be called God Still Hates Us.

I agree about giving Phil room to do his thing. I forgot he was on this record, but he is clearly there in songs like Trophies of the Tyrant.

Great picks Nick. I haven't revisited Host in a few years, so I might stick it on today.

I really like all three Black Sites albums, truthfully. And I agree with your description, they are pretty unique, in a way.

I do not know Fellahin Fall - I’ll need to check them out, clearly :)

Been awhile since the last album.  Would love to see them go on tour in the states, but they seem to be a local band in Canada.

Love the album cover
