The Cleanbreak I felt like listening to some more Mike Flyntz and really, this is a pretty decent album. While generic AF, it has some pretty good energy and held my attention.
I really like that Cleanbreak album - in fact, it was a nice surprise in 2022 and I actually bought it. Yes, nothing out of the ordinary, but the melodies are strong and the guitarwork is very tasty.
Today:
Man, I enjoy Host so much. Please don't take this is as revisionist history - I've liked it since the moment I've got it, back in 1999
Is it one of the best PL albums? Not quite, but I like how it's still very much
them, despite being wrapped in a different package. Lots and lots of Depeche Mode influence, circa Songs of Faith and Devotion/Ultra. The (lovely) strings and some of the synth lines, especially. They probably pushed the sound as much as they could here, and it's not surprising they slowly brought back the guitars over time. So many fantastic tunes, though. And Nothing Sacred is a TOP Paradise Lost song - I wish they'd revisit it live.
A few listens in, I think the new Unleash the Archer is good, but I don't believe it will match Apex/Abyss. I'll obviously spend more time with it, so I'm hoping it grows a bit.
