I love The Ocean; great tune.  Thank You is okay; Howard Stern called it one of the most beautiful songs ever written; I don't know about that.

I had Thank You at #38. Thank You is one of those songs that, when you hear it, it's like, wow, this is really a great song. Perhaps it was the lack of airplay, or slightly overshadowed on LZII, but it's a quality track for sure.

I had The Ocean at #22. When I started putting together my list, I had this higher up. But it seemed to fall a bit while finishing off my list.

Thank You - Not rated.  Perhaps my least favorite song from II.  Not that it's bad, just my least fave.
The Ocean - snuck in at #37.  Good hard rock piece to close out the album.  The Doo-Wop part at the end is kinda cheesy, but I can manage through it.

Now that we're 25% of the way through, here's how I've got em (and how DTF got 'em):

31 Thank You

...

30 The Ocean

I think my opinion of Thank You has been negatively influenced by all of the Facebook adds for some trinket with the lyrics written out in the shape of a heart or something like that.  Just a very "meh" song.  I didn't rank it.

I think The Ocean is really clever.  I had it at #24 and, in retrospect, I'd have had it higher.  I dig the alternating 4/4 and 7/8 rhythm and really love JPJ's bass line in the ending section.

I had Thank You at #5. This was a favourite of mine back in my high school days, so it gets a high ranking due to nostalgia.

I didn’t rank the Ocean.

Two more today!

29 Communication Breakdown
Appeared on 13 of 21 lists
Highest Finish:  9 (twosuitsluke)
2 Top 10 Finishes

Solid tune, but has never been anything special for me at all.  Unranked on my list.

28 Houses of the Holy
Appeared on 17 of 21 lists
Highest Finish:   9 (DTwwbwMP)
1 Top 10 Finish

This is another that just missed making my list.  Good song, but it always felt like it was missing that one little thing that would take it from good to great.

I had Communication Breakdown as Not Rated. And no this is not one of the two absolute classics I left off my list.
This is the first song so far that I did not list.

I had Houses Of The Holy at #13. Excellent and solid track. It would make any Zep playlist. on 17 lists? Wow, that's pretty consistent.

29 Communication Breakdown #15  my introduction to the band, so it certainly has a soft spot in that regards.

28 Houses of the Holy  NR  it's on my favorite Zeppelin album side.....another that slipped through the cracks

Two more songs that I know pretty well already.

Communication Breakdown - not a lot to say about this one. Just never really liked it. I think I don’t like Plant when he sings like this especially.

Houses of the Holy - gets a bit repetitive by the end, but it’s a hooky song that bops along nicely. Not a ton to say about it, but I like it well enough. Easily the better of these two.

Once again, I can really hear the Beatles influence on both of these tracks, which is just not something I ever thought about with Zeppelin before.

Both made the first iteration of my list, but both slipped out of the Top 40 in the end when I had to slip a few other songs ahead of them.  CB ended up 42; HotH probably would've been in mid 40s.

Houses of the holy is a great song, but I think it was a good call to leave it off of the album and put it on Physical graffiti instead. It works well on it.  :tup

Agreed. I mean, it certainly wouldn't have made or broken either album, but given how 'complete' HOTH feels, I think the title track adds something to PG that it wouldn't have otherwise had.

29 Communication Breakdown

...

28 Houses of the Holy

Communication Breakdown was initially a top 2-3 Zep song for me.  I had it at #10.  A killer song (arguably the first heavy metal song).  It gets in, does what it needs to do, does it very well, and doesn't overstay its welcome.

I had Houses at #25.  It's a fine song.

Today's songs featured one that is my least favorite song of theirs that made the top 40 and what would have been my least favorite if you had asked me about this 25 years ago.

27 Misty Mountain Hop
Appeared on 17 of 21 lists
Highest Finish: 4 (Zoom E)
3 Top 10 Finishes

Blech.  I used to sorta like this song, but I think I was conditioned to like it because, hey, it is on Led Zeppelin IV, so it has to be good, right? Right? WRONG.  Those vocal melodies in the verses are absolutely atrocious.  One of the most annoying songs in the history of popular rock music, IMO.

26 Going to California
Appeared on 16 of 21 lists
Highest Finish: 4 (WilliamMunny)
2 Top 10 Finishes

On the flip side, despite this also being on IV, I didn't like this song at all for the longest time, but it was like one day I heard it somewhere and thought, "Ya know, this actually is pretty good."  And my opinion of it has improved over time as a result, to where I ranked in 23rd here.

I had Misty Mountain Hop as Not Rated. Really does nothing for me.

I had Going To California at #29. Really nice and soothing track. Never really loved it, but I have always liked it a lot.

These are why I actually consider LZ IV their most inconsistent album.

Interesting, that makes me think a certain other song on Zep IV hasn't made the list. We'll see. I had Misty Mountain Hop at #36 and Going To California at #31.

Obviously I love Misty Mountain Hop too, since I ranked it at #4.

I have Going to California at #19. My thoughts on this song are similar to Kev’s. For many years this was the meh song on Zep IV for me, but I’ve since developed quite an appreciation for it.

Misty Mountain Hop at first wasn't on the list, but then on my listen-thru, I realized it needed to be there.  33 for me.
Going to California... very nice tune, but it's one of 2 songs on IV that didn't make it.  It probably would be low 40s in my books.
That's a word salad - and take it from me, I know word salad
I fear for the day when something happens on the right that is SO nuts that even Stadler says "That's crazy".

Misty Mountain Hop just doesn’t really excite me on any level. Maybe the drum groove a bit. And the Tolkien-inspired lyrics. It’s fine, but not something that stands out for me.

Goin to California is one I’ve always liked, and listening to it again it’s a really great song. Probably would be up pretty high for me if I ranked these.

Just catching up a little.

Thank you - I ranked at 27.

The Ocean - unranked.

Communication Breakdown - my number 11. Agree with pg that this is probably the first 'heavy metal' track. This is a classic.

Houses of the Holy - I ranked at 28.

Misty Mountain Hop - my number 15. Just has a really cool vibe but obviously doesn't appeal to everyone!

Going to California - unranked. Still a meh song for me after all these years. However the bridge part about half way in is great.
