Okay, I promised I would do this one next, and I am clearly a glutton for punishment, so as we count down the singers in that thread here in the next two weeks, let's prepare our lists for the top 40 by Led Zeppelin!  :metal :metal

I will count down the top 40 songs songs in order, and they will be taken from lists of anyone who wants to send me theirs via PM. Do not post them on the forum here. Send them to me via PM.  I will take all of the lists and come up with a top 40 based off all lists cumulatively and count the songs down from 40 to 1.

The rules:
-Songs must be listed from 40 to 1 in order (in reverse order), with no ties.  No having three songs at number 1 or anything like that. 40 songs, listed from 40 to 1. DO NOT list your songs with the points total. List them in your order (I will figure out the points on my end).  Any list submitted with the songs not numbered will be ignored.
-Anyone wanting to submit a list must do so by the end of day, Saturday, December 17th.  I will then begin the countdown the following Monday. This should give anyone and everyone time to listen to the band's songs.
-The list will be tallied numerically in a simple way. On each list, whatever song is at number 1 gets 40 points, number 2 gets 39 points, number 3 gets 38 points, etc.
-Like before, no more Mr. Nice Guy on my part.  PROOFREAD YOUR LISTS BEFORE SENDING THEM.  Any list with the same song mentioned twice will be not be counted.

Feel free to post in this thread as well that you have PM'd me, if for no other reason than to bump this back up for others who may want to participate who may not have seen the thread yet.

This ranking engine link below works great. You can input all of the songs, and then you pick your favorite of every 1 on 1 matchup and then it spits out your list.  If you feel I am missing a song (like some obscure demo or live cut), feel free to PM me and I will add it to the list before, although I cannot imagine anything not listed below having a realistic shot at the top 40.

https://rankingengine.pubmeeple.com/

Please use the below list of songs, no others.  Listing anything else will invalidate your list from being used.

Thought I was done with these based on potential bands that were being discussed, but I might have to partake in this one.

Guess it's time to do my annual LZ discography binge.

I think I could rank about half the songs off the top of my head but it looks like I have time for a discography run through.

While I know their music, I'm not a huge LZ fan. I'll try to listen to their discography again and see if I can come up with a list.

My local classic rock radio station does a top 1043 classic rock songs every year. They just finished the playlist over the weekend and Stairway won for the 22nd year in a row, We'll see if the result is different here  :corn

I might see how many of these I’m familiar enough with to rank. Never really got into LZ, but their songs are ubiquitous enough that I could probably rank 40. I at least know what my number 1 would be, and maybe my top 5 or so.

I took a first pass through the songs, making eliminations, and I cut it down to.....40!

I have a handful of favorites, but I am definitely going to need the ranker.

Okay, my list is done and entered. I always like to get it done and entered right away, that way the results from others as I enter them do not subconsciously affect my order.

LZ is probably the #1 band in my 'Retired Favorites' category. Listed to them as much as any artist in high school, college and beyond, enjoyed pretty much all their material. Yet have since expanded my musical horizons and filed them away, and have not made any effort to listen to them in years. Been listening to a few tunes that I am not as familiar with to help with the ranking, and it is like putting on an old, worn-out pair of slippers: just as familiar as they always were.

This will take me a few days, I got into Zep a little bit backward as my generation was into 80s metal and I only knew LZ as that band that had Black Dog and Stairway in the radio and older kids talking about them. Not really my sound but I've grown to appreciate a lot of their stuff.

All OVER this.  Usually when I do these I know what number 1 will be and the trouble is usually around 5 through 20.  Here, all 40 will be a problem.  I LOVE Led Zeppelin.  I have about five songs that could legit be number one.

Eight studio albums (although one was a double) plus Coda and just a few odd singles/leftovers.  I weeded it down to 54 that I put into the ranking engine, but even with that, I have at least a couple that have no hope.

And I know for sure what my #1 song will be.

I'm actually not sure what my #1 is. I think I know though.

Pretty sure I can do a Top 10 and a 31-40. But 11-30 are all pretty much equal to me.

I am pretty much assuming that Hot Dog will be number 1 for most, so it's just a matter of what wins the fight for 2nd place.

And yeah, my #1 LZ song hasn't changed in like 20 years.

List sent—super pumped for this one!

While bands like Queen and the Beatles have enjoyed sustained critical praise throughout the past few decades, I tend to view Zeppelin as a band whose star has faded a bit, and fittingly so.

Sure, Page and Bonham Jr. could bounce around the country every couple of years with a young hotshot singer (a la Queen), sell boatloads of tickets and keep the 'brand' alive, but Plant, the distinguished gentleman that he is, has consistently maintained that Zeppelin is 'retired.'

Those who were there (I was not), and those of us who have fallen in love with Zeppelin after the fact are all too aware of just how mighty they were at their peak. That said, I am happy that the band's legend remains shrouded, lying in wait only for those willing to dig a little deeper.

For that reason, I 'hope' that there will never be a feature-length biopic or white-washed mini-series. My 14-year-old knows all about Queen and the Beatles, but he couldn't name you a single Zeppelin song, and there's a part of me that thinks it makes the band all that more cool.

That was all Page. He LIKED the mystery.  He was the one that said "no singles!".  He was the one that sort of maintained the distance, though Plant has done pretty well on that front as well; listen to his interviews with either Howard Stern or Dan Rather - both excellent interviewers - and he has an uncanny knack of answering the question - with detail - without actually answering the question.  He's a very smart, savvy guy.

Page, for sure. Although, in recent years, if Page had his druthers, the band would have done a tour (or three), so I will give a nod to Plant for recognizing that (other than Celebration Day) Led Zeppelin is best remembered for what they were, as opposed to a pale imitation.

I just did my first grouping of songs into a top/middle/bottom scale.  Curiously, I wanted to know see how that grouping fit by album as well, so I (off the top of my head) populated the list with the albums.  I was pleasantly surprised I only had one brain-fart (I put In The Evening as Physical Graffiti:facepalm:), and also for the life of me couldn't remember which album Travelling Riverside Blues was from  :lol

Back in my younger days, I could rhyme off their entire discography, in order of the tracklisting.  I might just have to give that a try as well.
That's a word salad - and take it from me, I know word salad
I fear for the day when something happens on the right that is SO nuts that even Stadler says "That's crazy".
