Oppenheimer
Very intense, very well done, lots of insight into the man and the times, mostly great acting all around. Unfortunately, some of the actors are a bit typecast in my mind and it took me out of the picture a few times. Once I realized that Groves was Matt Damon, it was a little hard not to just see/hear Matt Damon. But the fact that I made it 1/4 of the way into the movie before realizing who it was I suppose is a testament to him disappearing into the character. We'd watched the Ocean's 11/12/13 movies recently, and when Casey Affleck showed up as Pash, he basically looked and sounded exactly like Virgil Malloy and I couldn't shake that. But there were a lot of characters, and most of them I didn't recognize at all. I mean, I don't watch movies trying to recognize the actors; I really would rather be immersed. When we watched the closing credits and saw who played whom, I was pretty amazed at how many names I recognized, but did not notice in the film. Good! That's exactly when I want. I don't want to watch a movie about Robert Downey, Jr trying to screw over Cillian Murphy. I want to watch a movie about J. Robert Oppenheimer and the shit he went through.
