On a completey related note: the track rocked. It wasn’t anything life-changing but it was really good. Pumped for the album/not pumped for the “the tr00 DT is back”/finally drums that don’t sound like
shit comments. For once, I wish people had the emotional maturity to enjoy this without having to relate it to Dream Theater in any way.

My problem is that no I didn't like it..

I friggin' LOVED it! Their chemistry stands the test of time, it's like no day has gone by between them. The guitars sound amazing, the keyboards add that spirit of LTE, the drums as always have so much power and taste that serve the song and last but not least the bass sounds killer with that tone!
I can't wait to get it!

So the Artbook will be about $45, the box set about $90. And the 2 LPs apparently only contain the main album on two vinyls, no bonus jams, which are all squeezed into the third LP in the box set (which seems to be the only place to get the improv jams on vinyl).

Do we already know how long exactly that bonus disk of jams is going to be? I recall it being around an hour, but that could also mean 50 minutes, which would be fine for one LP.

WOW.  Ever since "Tattoo" from VanHalen, and the snippets from DT12, I've avoided the pre-release material like the plague (I have yet to hear one of the new Transatlantic songs) but I checked this out just to see the band.  WOW.  WOW.  What  great song.  I really liked that a lot.   Tony even wore his work goggles ("let's get to work, boys!").  I really liked that a lot and I'm eager for the rest.  They sound as energized as Jordan seemed to imply in his interview.

It's funny they named a song "The Passage of Time" while it's clear that, for them, it didn't really pass and they just restarted from where they stopped two decades ago

Exactly.  I can usually only take stuff like this in small doses, but this was a very tasty track.

Well, actually for me I don't listen to any instrumental music other than Liquid Tension Experiment.   I've tried a few other bands but they never seem to be able to hold my interest, but LTE's music is just so damned good.  There is something about this particular mix of musicians that produces some of the best progressive metal style music in existence.  That song is a prime example of that.

As far as I can remember, Mike has never positioned octobans where he has for this recording. I could hear a few times where he utilized them as two, quick hit accents and it's a nice change. Generally, his Max Splash stacks are where the octobans are positioned and he would frequently use them as accents. Few spins under my belt, this song rocks!

Although, nothing surprising (besides some really really killer playing by JP) it checks all the boxes. Passage of Time is the perfect title, it re-establishes the LTE sound we all know and love, smacks you in the face and says “after all this time, we still kick ass”. “WE ARE BACK”.

Portnoy + Petrucci forever

I thought that was just solid. 

I mean, I loved the first two albums and it's only one listen, but we've just heard this all before.  It just all sounds the same to me now a little.  There's heaps of DT in here but also this track could be on a Petrucci solo album for me.  I feel the personality for each project starts to gel into each other. Maybe it's the production these days, not sure.  I'll have to listen again though, there were some very nice sections.
