Median being close to the average means there will probably be not many songs that fluctuate around the average. If you expected many short songs (about 1 min), and others being longer (like 8 minutes), you're probably wrong. However, this doesn't mean there won't be at least one long song (like 15 min). There just won't be many of them
I wish there was a distribution graph :/
Noxon, can you tell us the standard deviation at least? :D

After lengths, the next thing I'm most interested in is which songs will be instrumentals? Considering that large parts of DT albums are instrumental, it will be interesting to see how that approach works, particularly on Disc 1, with its 20 presumably-shorter-by-DT-standards tracks. I suspect there will be back-to-back instrumental tracks in places, especially the first two tracks and also Digital Discord/The X Aspect. (I know TXA has not been confirmed as an instrumental, but to me it just screams instrumental. Title's too abstract to put words to, imo.)

My wild guess for instrumental songs:

Descent of the NOMACS
Dystopian Overture
*maybe* Lord Nafayrus, it could be his "theme"
The Hovering Sojourn
Brother can you hear me
either one out of Ravenskill (again, a "theme" maybe?) or Chosen
Digital Discord
The X Aspect
2285 Entr'acte
maybe Moment of Betrayal
Machine Chatter
Losing Faythe as an outro to My Last Farewell
Power Down
I use my sig to pimp some bands from Italy! Check out Elvenking (Power / Folk metal), Folkstone (Rock / Medieval metal), Arcana Opera (Gothic/Noir/Heavy metal) and the beautiful voice of Elisa!

kinda like everyone and their mother can appreciate Stairway to Heaven?
eh.

double eh
Triple eh.

I'm just glad everyone's picking at Stairway to Heaven and not Wish You Were Here.

I wouldn't consider Wish You Were Here Pink Floyd's Stairway. But if you want we can use, maybe, Shine On Crazy Diamond, and then Stairway can reduce itself to the realm of Bieber or One Direction.   ;D

if the album is around 130 minutes long and there are 34 tracks, the average track length will be about 3:49

confirmed: album is 34 tracks of exactly this length

When you assume...

When I say "this is not like any DT album you've ever heard before", I mean it.

The only instrumental songs (as such) is the two overtures. The "NOMAC" tracks could also be considered instrumental songs, but they're basically just rhythmical "noise". There are instrumental sections - but it's much more vocal driven than ever before. When I say "look at The Wall and Tommy and Jesus Christ Superstar", I'm saying that for several reasons. Look at track lengths. Look at how the story is unfolding on the albums. Look at the type of music. This is a rock opera, with music by Dream Theater. Not a Dream Theater Rock Opera - if you can understand the distinction.

The stdev is 1:42.

With regards to tracklengths and so forth; I'm not going to reveal them yet. But I'll give you a hint as to what to expect.

The median track length is not far from the average track length.

Think The Wall.

Think Tommy.

Think Jesus Christ Superstar.

Think Disney Musicals.

Only as played by Dream Theater.

Can you say if even a single song is above 10 minutes?

I'm guessing most of the tracks are going to be around the 5-7 minute range. Might not be a ten minute track on this album. Depends on what the story calls for.
Everything is immaterial. Do you know that reality is immaterial? This is not reality.
In what friggin' universe is a 68 minute long album "short"?

There are 33 pieces to that pie. Maybe DT have done what Marillion did for Clutching at Straws and Astonishing is not a real track at all. :neverusethis:

5 red segments, including some really short ones, make me think they are the NOMAC tracks.

The first disc seems significantly longer than second, which is interesting.

btw, for those who want to be up to date on all of the info, read my What We Know So Far thread.

That was my best guess. Really curious for that stuff!

EDIT:

Just imagine if inside each NOMAC... there's an innocent Bebot being tortured and producing awful noises.

I'm beginning to see that what looks like a single segment at 3 o'clock might actually be 2, with a very faint line there. Which would make 34.

I think I might be, at least a little bit. I can see where all the colours begin and end for each segment, apart from the two at 3 o'clock.

Hang on...I can clearly see the red one below the orange one. I'm talking about the orange and the slightly lighter colour above it.

I wouldn't do that if I were you. There's a reason why I'm not precise in my communication. If it's not officially released, you can't release the information here as it could be considered a leak.

Makes sense. I would expect a review to do it, like it was the case previously. You also mentioned the band never releases track lengths themselves.

That's fair enough. I worked out the lengths using a ruler, calculator and the image but I'll keep it to myself for if it would be looked down upon to post it.
