Ha, I heard the track when I was out. Just got in and thought "wonder what the DT forum thinks..." and come here to see 20 more odd pages than when I checked this morning. I guess it's to be expected.

Anyway I can't be bothered to read through it all, especially with all this Metropolis Pt 3 and auto-tune shite, but I reckon pretty much everyone is digging this. Sounds like it could have been released between SFAM and SDOIT.

I've been holding out that Dream Theater have one last great album in them, a final huzzah to make me feel the spirit of the old days. This is shaping up nicely.
I walk beside Dream Theater.

I still don't hear the autotune even after focusing on it and replaying the part over and over.
Same here for me. I've re-listened to the timestamp provided 10+ times and I got nothing.

I just went back to it and there is just something off about it. It's like "...people have no time for music anymore..." and it sounds like they tried to lower the pitch when LaBrie sings "time", so it sounds like "time[uaauw]", just between 1:22 and 1:23

Guys, It's has been made on purpose! Because people have no time for music anymoooaaahhhh

BTW, great single! :)

Actually, after listening a couple of times...the whole line "people just don't..." to the most audible "time" are actually wrongfully melodyned. Very very weird!! Why would they actually release a single with such a mistake! OR as you are saying...they might wanna make a statement within those lines

Alright guys, we don't have to get into a fight about the whole "autotune" thing. We can be civilized :lol

To me it doesn't even phase me at all and I'd rather just drop it ;)

Just one little mistake in the Melodyne it sounds like to my ears. Maybe others see it differently

But to people getting upset about the supposed "glitch" and to people getting upset at those people . . . let's just enjoy the song ;D

If this turns out to be really formulated like The Wall it would be such an exciting experience to hear the DT take on that format.

I'm so happy I'm blessed with ignorant ears for these auto tunning things. It'd hate it if something minor like one sec of vocal would be the main take away from a song  :lol

Loved the single and its "about to crash" vibe. It's a nice break from other first singles we got which were more on the heavy side. Now, the song is very good but that interview by JP is the thing that took my hype to "over 9000!" levels. For years they've said they would love to score a movie; so what do they do? they create their own story to score. Brilliant.

I said it over at the MP forum, I hope they release a special edition collector edition with a book like Steven Wilson has been doing.

There's a few more videos (like a Sweetwater video) with Rudess, that would have parts of Astonishing on it too. But yes, I heard that recently and I'd be surprised if it wasn't.

Yeah, I have no idea what the cakeless person in that analogy is meant to be eating. If he's got some sort of cake substitute, it should really have been worked into the narrative at some point. As it stands, the options are:

  • Hoard a cake just to stare blankly into its doughy edifice.
  • Make futile chewing motions with your mouth while starving to death.

LYRICS:

Far in the distant future
Beyond the pages of our time
Cold-blooded wicked tyrants
Threatened the freedom of mankind

Corruption, lust, and greed
Define the new nobility
Changing the course of history

ARHYS:

I cross the vast North Empire
Most people struggle to survive
Living a meek existence
Where they're secluded ______

We are living day to day
Forced to bear the lion's share
People just don't have the time for music anymore
And no one seems to care

My friends have seen the Chosen One
The quest for freedom has begun
He will be the answer to our prayers

There walks a god among us
Who's seen the writing on the wall
He is the revolution
He'll be the one to save us all

My brother Gabriel
Is all the hope we need
Shining like a beacon in the night
Shepherd of Ravenskill, a reason to believe
Music is the gift he brings
The songbird stops to listen when he sings

Nice interpretation! Someone asked me to try to hear it out and mine came out a bit different (yours might be more spot on).

Far in the distant future
Beyond the pages of our time
Cold-blooded wicked tyrants
Threaten the freedom of mankind

Corruption, lust, and greed
Define the new nobility
Changing the course of history

Across the vast north empire
Most people struggle to survive
Living a meek existence
(Can’t make out this line)

We are living day to day
Forced to bear the lion’s share
People just don’t have the time for music anymore
And no one seems to care

My friends have seen the chosen one
Our quest for freedom has begun
He will be the answer to our prayers

There walks a guy among us
Who’s seen the writing on the wall
He is the revolution
He’ll be the one to save us all

My brother Gabriel
Is all the hope we need
Shining like a beacon in the dark

(Can’t make out this part) Ravenskill
A reason to believe
Music is the gift he brings
(Can’t make out this line)

Perhaps this will help your blank parts and yours can correct the errors of mine :lol
