Outcry was about everything going on in the middle east and all the revolutions going on down there. That's a pretty serious subject. To follow that up with a pretty over the top fantasy story would just feel... Wrong. So I wouldn't bet on it.

Anyone here remembers how was it when SFAM was going to be launched?
Did you know it was concept?
How were your thoughts then about it?

I only knew the releasedate for SFAM so I went in to a recordstore and pixked up the album on that day.
It was only when I saw the cover that I knew it was a concept album. Smiled all the way home to the stereo...

Maybe that nugget at the end of Illumination theory has some connection with the new album  :eek
It seems that they're entering an area of extreme hazard. A zone of some sort. A dangerous one.

Same here. I will never forget it  :coolio walking into the store knowing only (it was the pre-internet days) that on said that the "new DT album" was out, and finding out only there in the store it was Metropolis pt.2  :metal
I use my sig to pimp some bands from Italy! Check out Elvenking (Power / Folk metal), Folkstone (Rock / Medieval metal), Arcana Opera (Gothic/Noir/Heavy metal) and the beautiful voice of Elisa!

Yeah, about that Outcry pt 2:

There definitely are many ADTOE/IAW similarities, we proved that many times until now. Those structural similarities couldn't be pure coincidence, and DT had to be aware of them, not only aware, they INTENTIONALLY made the albums similar. And guess what, Petrucci was asked about those similarities in an interview, and again guess what, he denied them. I wouldn't be surprised if they actually planned this for some time (since 2011 at least): they were going to make a concept album based on a song, since Outcry has similarities with Metropolis, the new album may actually be called Outcry pt 2: The Astonishing.
There are also more things adding up to the hypothesis, like similarities between self-titled and Awake, as well as FII was intended to be a double album, including the song Metropolis pt 2, but they weren't allowed to do that. And now that they're allowed...

This is all pure speculation (not that random though), and I'm saying don't be that surprised if DT comes one day and announces full album name actually is Outcry pt. 2: The Astonishing
I mean, I will definitely be hyped AF, but not surprised. :D

I mean, other than there being blue, silver, and black on both album covers, I don't really see any similarities between Awake and DT12.

I too remember there was a confusion about Met. pt.2 being on the album and it being THE album. But when I purchased it I was aware of what it was. In my case, the fact of being a concept was overshadowed by being Metropolis pt.2. The musical concept (recurring motifs and variations of Pt. 1 throughout the whole album) was much more important to me than the lyrical, the storyline. There was so much to discover, musically.
I hope the new album works with recurring themes, too (not necessarily Metropolis themes, but new ones)

:getoffmylawn: you made me watch 35 seconds of an Adam Sandler movie.

I'm so sorry I forced you to watch an entire half minute Youtube video of something you prejudged to hate based on the inclusion of an actor who was in it for a total of 2 seconds at the end. Life must be really hard for you.

It's more like he "attempted" to make movies after 2000.

It's more like he "attempted" to make movies after 2000.

Everything after 2000 is just cash grabs paid for by massive product placement in his films and corporate endorsements.

I kinda want to watch Jack & Jill to see just how bad it is.

The fun thing about google is that they've saved all the newsgroups communications from waaaay back when.

https://groups.google.com/forum/#!topic/alt.music.dream-theater/XpnlCNBi-yw

You can search through it to find waht people talked about during an albums release.

I donīt think ADToE is a carbon copy of I&W as some people say, but ok, I admit ADToE is the album closest in spirit to I&W.

But DT12 and Awake donīt have almost anything is common... one lyric by Myung in each?

Good, because it isn't, and the few people that try to make that argument are either WAY overstating their point or don't really understand music.  But there is a separate thread for that if people still want to talk about it.  Let's keep this one on topic please.

Yeah c'mon vazquez, we were clearly talking about the very serious topic of Adam Sandler's post-2k acting career.
people on this board are actual music fans who developed taste in music and not casual listeners who are following current fashion trends and listening to only current commercial hits.

So here's a question . . .

Based solely on the song titles, which track off the new album do you guys want to hear the most???

And you can't say "Astonishing" because I know everyone's gonna pick that  :lol So other than that one  ;)

No idea.  :lol  Seriously, I just can't pick when I know nothing about the songs.  Never can.  I guess the exception would be Redemption's upcoming album.  Those have to be some of the best sounding, most intriguing song titles I have ever seen.  But that is a clear exception to the rule.

Well, I think that is because they are T-1 models during the initial invasion.  By the time of The Astonishing, I think they are T-800's.
