It's lazy and not the quality of product I think DT deserves to have made for them.  If they like it, then great.  But I mean come on, really?

but in the grand scheme of things, this is gonna be an itunes cover. so not a big deal. if a dramatic turn of events was a sheep in crosshairs, we would then have a problem

I think the point is more that this is just for a digital only(?) single. Album cover I can understand, because it represents the entire album product. Does it really matter for a single cover?

Yep. I think the only party in the MP/DT situation that hasn't moved on is DTF.

I know what you guys are saying, but when it's something I could make in 15 minutes using MSPaint, at some point I have to ask how low can was possibly go here.

I get your point, and I'm not disagreeing about the quality of the particular image. But for me personally, the cover for a downloadable single is something I couldn't care less about. Complaints about the cover I can understand, because it's a prominent part of the final product. But for this, I'm just going to say "meh" and move along. But I get what you're saying. It's still something that has been chosen to represent the band, and should be taken seriously.

If thats the real art, then its baaaaaad...

Some of the stuff Steve done look way better and more fitting. Too much red on this.

True.  Can STEVETHEATER be the new DT cover artist?
I would be very happy with that :)

I would have loved that. Honestly.
Looking at Syme's portfolio, it's not even so far-fetched. He's done lots of crazy stuff.

Petrucci on a unicycle would've been nice too:

There's a lot of Petruccis on unicycles, see:

(my joke would have been better if the video was shorter...)

After some burn-in, On the Backs of Angels:

Music: 8/10
Lyrics: 6/10
James: 5/10 (thank the lyrics for it, I suppose...he's just not interesting on this)

Digging it, but not enough to preorder the box set.  Anyone else get the same "mood" or "sound" they've had post-Octavarium?

I don't know, it sounds different to me. I can't put my finger on it though. I love the new sound it has, but it just feels like they haven't done a song like this in awhile. Although that single cover...

Have you guys seen this yet?

https://www.amazon.com/On-The-Backs-Of-Angels/dp/B005EQA5ZU/ref=sr_shvl_album_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1311829597&sr=301-1

In b4 ASPCA criticism.

No, it's ok. Zoom in and you'll see at the bottom of the cover it says "No animals were harmed during the Photoshopping of this image".

Oh, Ewe!

I must sheepishly admit to liking the art.  Ewe herd me:  I like it.  I hope I don't have to go on the lamb after this.

I'm a fan of the color scheme. I really like the gold-ish text on the all red picture. I think it fits the atmosphere of the song for sure.

Personally I thought the song was much more colorful. But like others said, it's no biggie,  a cover of a digital single --> meh category

The song has cool keyboard sounds, it doesn't have the same riff over and over again, and it doesn't have a completely unrelated weird orgasmic solo section. I think that's enough to consider it different from anything post-Octavarium. The song just doesn't feel like Dream Theater's recent work to me.

He does good work but I'd really want to move away from that Syme style completely.

Is that cover for OTBOA is confirmed (that one with the lamb) or it's only taken from amazon.com? because it's weird IMO ;)

You guys are too picky. There's really nothing wrong with that single cover. It's simple but who cares? It's just a damn single cover.
