Finally listened to it and I'm not impressed, kinda indifferent to the song. As others have said, the song is pretty forgettable overall. I'd give it a 5/10. Some points:
1. Those comments about them being more proggy and less metal made me curious, but after listening to the song I say it's just wishful thinking. The song is heavy in the same way many recent DT songs are. Listen to the sections beginning at 1:54, 2:38, 4:24. That is recent DT at its fullest expression. The guitar tooooooone and work, the orchestration, the layering of the instruments, everything is a revisit to Constant Motion or AROP.
2. By the way, Constant Motion and AROP were better. At least, they had memorable moments (the main riff, the extremelly cool guitar work during the second verse and the guitar solo in AROP, the transition to the instrumental section in Constant Motion were excellent) but here we have nothing. Those singles were energetic, this song has no energy. The riffs are not catchy and the vocal melodies are extremely bland, especially during the chorus where even the music is lackluster. No fun, no excitement, nothing you can sing along to.
3. Jordan shines in this song, his parts were my favorite. The other guys seemed to play just because they had to write a song, "so let's play something here", but sound very uninspired, especially James.
4. It's good to hear JM again. It would have been better if he played at least 1 interesting bassline in the whole song.
5. The drums are Ok, I don't think they're mixed too low, but the kick bass is too prominent IMO.
6. The outro is very good.
And yes, I hope it'll grow on me
