You'll laugh but once I loaded them into my computer, I stored my 1750 cd's in boxes down in the cellar to make space.

I don't like buying CDs. A CD is so.. I don't know... impersonal. I get every special edition I can get my hands on though. And they're just randomly displayed on some shelves.

Alphabetically by artist. I tag classical music tracks by composer, I put the performer in the comment section.

It makes sense, it's just a much more complicated system.

Me: "How?"
Cole: "Well you know when you try to scratch your balls, and you scratch too hard?
I'll admit sometimes I want to listen to Dragonforce.

I find it easier, means if I'm in the mood for some metal, I can go to the metal section, or if I'm in the mood for some jazz I can go there, whatever.

I stack them on a shelf by artist, and depending on the material of the CD (hard cover books, normal jewel case, soft paper ala a lot of PT's older album versions) I put the more flimsy ones on top so they don't get ruined.

So yeah... I voted other.

Makes perfect sense to me. I just can't be arsed, i just look at the first letter of the band's name and slap the CD there.

Most of my collection has been kind of random for the last two years. The rest of it is sorted by when I purchased the respective albums.
... And you ask me: "Where's my hairspray?"

You'll laugh but once I loaded them into my computer, I stored my 1750 cd's in boxes down in the cellar to make space.

I don't see anyone laughing at this.  It's also exactly what I do.  I rarely put a CD in my home system and haven't in my car in 4 years since I got my Alpine iPod-controlling deck installed.

I used to have a Sony 300 CD changer but got rid of it about 5 years ago since HDD storage became so cheap and wav>mp3 encoding became fast and solid... and once my CD collection broke 300 and having to constantly be removing CD's and putting new ones into the changer I just said fuck it, it's not worth the trouble.  I had a typed-out list of everything in the changer so if I wanted to listen to something specific I could look it up but it's just such a hassle.

If I have time to myself and REALLY want to just stop everything and immerse myself into some music I'll use my home theatre.  But 99.9% of the time it's all digital, all the time.

I own two physical albums (nearly three, actually) which I organize strictly by electronegativity.
