Good review Mason, but;

Peter Wichers’ production is a large reason why this album sounds so good. While LaBrie, Guillory, and Sfogli have been together for all three James LaBrie albums, Wichers made Static Impulse sound like a Wichers album, which is a large reason why some of the fan base felt alienated.

 ???
Did Wichers even produce SI?

Not to be a negative nancy or anything but those samples on Itunes kinda just turned me off. Especially Back on the Ground and I Got You were really really off-putting.

I hope the previews are misleading. But as of right now im just kinda confused as to what happened this time around  ???

To be honest though, that chorus. Like I couldnt help but visualize a bunch of backup dancers waving around "magic wands" behind James in some sort of Miley Cyrus-esque performance. It was almost Radio Disney-level lyrics too. Just..... yuck yuck yuck. Pretty ridiculous. And Back On The Ground, with that American metalcore breakdown riffing.....  :tdwn

I dont mean to be bashing too hard, especially when I'm only judging a 30 second sample. But what I heard didn't strike me at all quite like Agony did. It's only a matter of time before we evaluate the full tracks though, and maybe my first impressions will be wrong. And this does indeed all boil down to personal preference anyway. I really loved Static Impulse but im just not getting quite the same good vibes with these new samples. Time will tell.

I love how every single melody of those previews stucks into my ears. JLB has an incredible sense of vocal melodies, and how to make them work with the riffs and rhythms in the song. I'm really looking forward to hear the whole album.
Am I the only one who felt some 'In Flames' influences here and there?

They did say the songs have pop influences which doesn't bother me one bit. Agony has the pop crescendo in the chorus.

Dammit, I need to visit this subforum more often!  :lol

I really enjoyed the single (although not as much as One More Time from SI), and the samples sound awesome.  Really enjoyed your review, Nick, and I can't wait for this one to drop.  Amazing cast of characters once again.  Really looking forward to it.

Hello, Matt and Peter!

Update for those in the US looking to get the version of Impermanent Resonance with the bonus tracks domestically:

I heard back from the label and was told that anyone that purchases through the following link will receive the digipak with the bonus tracks.

https://www.cmdistro.com/Item/James_LaBrie_-_Impermanent_Resonance_-PRE-ORDER-/46064

It's not clear on the site, but I was told they will make sure it gets corrected.

Cheers,
Matt

I was holding out on preordering since I wasn't sure where to get the version with the bonus tracks, but I'll definitely be doing it now.

Is there any specific option for Canadians to pre-order from? I'm guessing the US option is the best one to go with, which is understandable for a project like this. The Canadian version of Amazon has it at $18 before tax and shipping right now (and in my experience, Amazon, while good with in stock items, isn't always the best with pre-orders), while it comes to $17 USD to ship the album to Canada from that link.

There's also a good chance that the Amazon one doesn't have the bonus tracks.

I'm definitely buying the album from somewhere. I just have to figure out where.

I pre-ordered mine on Amazon since I never had problems with them delivering on release date. Why exactly do you think they're not that great with pre-orders?

I preordered Static Impulse on Amazon and it came in a day early....  I'm thinking about putting my preorder for IR soon. :metal
I just don't understand what they were trying to achieve with any part of the song, either individually or as a whole. You know what? It's the Platypus of Dream Theater songs. That bill doesn't go with that tail, or that strange little furry body, or those webbed feet, and oh god why does it have venomous spurs!? And then you find out it lays eggs too. The difference is that the Platypus is somehow functional despite being a crazy mishmash or leftover animal pieces

My experience with amazon is that they have shipped orders on release day, which means I get them 3 days later.

I managed to pare my CMDistro order down to $100, then I shed tears for the $400 in stuff I didn't get - not that I couldn't afford it, I just have big news that will come later in another thread in GD.

If you're a normal Amazon customer, you'll get the album a day or three after release, if you're a prime member you'll get it on release day or the day before.

For realz. I can't stop. I already know I am going to be spinning this album like no other. Really, this is the album that got me excited for the new DT album.  :lol Awesome stuff.

P.S. I just realized there's a good chance I'll like this more than the new DT... Hmmm. We shall see. I love the brutality of this mixed in with the great choruses and melodies though, I doubt that DT will be as heavy as this.

Lucky you then. I always used to get them on release day or the day after, but in the last year or two, since they've really been pushing prime I had noticed as a normal customer my stuff seemed to ship later and later (I always got the free shipping mind you), and so I eventually upgraded.
