I thought it was confirmed the music was written by the band and the lyrics by JP?

I believe so, yes.

Quote from: Wim Kruithof on November 25, 2024, 09:49:29 AMI kept wondering since the release, who wrote Night Terror? I assumed Petrucci but do not know that for sure...

Out of the blue? There was discussions about who wrote which lyrics.

And no, when I received the album in september I didn't even have an album title - only songs, no artwork, no lyrics, no credits... just mp3s.

I dont see JP as the nuggeteer, and this song is brim full of them in the lyrics...

Wait, sorry - are you talking about "Midnight Messiah" or "Night Terror" here?

TheHoveringSojourn808

Here's the credits from Spotify, if it helps

my guess is this means JP wrote the lyrics with everything else being attributed to all 5 of them

Wow! it must be surreal to get the new album in its most raw form without even a title decided yet!

wizard

Will it be a second single before the South American leg of the 40th Anniversary Tour?

Yup, that's what I was referring to.

that's true, according to the credits on the Apple Music page for Parasomnia (Apple Music do specify credits a lot more than some other streaming services, in my observation)
All my natural instincts are begging me to stop
But somehow I carry on, heading for the top
A physical absurdity, a tremendous mental game
Helping me understand exactly who I am

And these are the credits for NT on Youtube Music:

QuoteLead  Vocalist: James LaBrie
Guitar, Lyricist, Producer: John Petrucci
Recording  Engineer: James Meslin
Mastering  Engineer, Mixing  Engineer: Andy Sneap
Keyboards: Jordan Rudess
Bass  Guitar: John Myung
Drums: Mike Portnoy

Definitely lyrics by JP on this one.

I'm not talking about Night Terror...

I hope this ends up being true, and I'm excited for a DT power ballad.

I hope it is as good as any ballad by Bon Jovi.

I thought MP said the next single was going to be a metal banger.

I'll take a wild guess and say it'll be Midnight Messiah. And I base that on absolutely nothing.

If it's the heaviest then it probably means it's an 8 string.

There's a rumor that this single will be out next week. I hope it's true and also that DT will include it on the next leg of the tour in December :coolio  :coolio

If they do, let's hope they replace something like AIA and not a MM era song, for example :lol

I'd rather them not do any MM era material. But yes, if it's the heaviest song on the album, that would likely mean it's an 8 string song these days

How about to replace MM songs with other MM songs?

Why though? The tour (at least this leg through the currently known North American leg) is billed as the 40th anniversary tour. It wouldn't make sense to just ignore 15 of those 40 years.

When Mike said "every era would be represented" I was kinda scared, thinking they'd gerrymander BCSL with the Mangini albums as one era, and then ignore the MM albums.

gzarruk

And they ignored WDADU + the Majesty stuff, yet they're playing 4 SFAM, 3 IAW and 3 TOT.

ganpondorodf

Maybe Max just doesn't like the MM stuff  ;D

I know I am very unfamiliar with it... I knew ADTOE fairly well but my music tastes were changing by the time MP left anyway and then him leaving killed a lot of my interest in the band at the time.

Excited for the new stuff, and to see them next year, though. Gonna be a big nostalgia-fest for my inner 17 year old. Will have to at least give the MM-era stuff a bit of a chance.

devieira73

Well, being a bit greedy, maybe they could just add 8 minutes to the present setlist?

Naaaaah, Max prefers MM, so I'm pretty sure he just doesn't want MP to play his parts not to his liking lol I for one love MP's takes on the songs so far! Bring on more! (Still love ya Max) lol)

I think it's probably because he thinks MP would be doing those songs a disservice compared to Mangini's original performances.

(Edit: sorry, yes, as Progmaniac said; missed it.)
