Sounds like you actually forgot about all of them.

But it's pretty wild that once this album comes out, a quarter of their albums will have 2 instrumentals. I wouldn't have guessed it was that many off the top of my head.

James repeated once again last night that they're gonna play the album front to back when they come back to Europe in '25. I love that we're getting more info on this album and the tour through them saying things on stage and in interviews gradually, I much prefer that to getting it all in one press release that we have to chew on for months.

wizard

Have we got informations, concerning the title and the release date of the next single?

That's really cool. Can't wait for the new album. I'm glad you had such an awesome time at the show :)

The question is, will they play the album front to back for summer festivals too, or will they be focusing on their whole career when that moment comes?

The former is unlikely. As they have done in the past, I think MP will put together a different setlist taking into account the time restrictions and also the fact that a large proportion of the audience won't have come to see them - to try and convert the unconverted!

No

Got this message from IO Bancamp account:

QuoteRegarding Dream Theater's forthcoming album "Parasomnia", a little good news. Previously we could not upload a 24-bit version of the album due to Bandcamp file size limitations (the 19-minute closing track "The Shadow Man Incident" was simply too large). However, Bandcamp bumped up our maximium file size allowance in the meantime, so a 24-bit HD version is now possible.

Everyone who already pre-ordered the 16-bit version has been automatically upgraded to the 24-bit version, free of charge. People who have not pre-ordered now have two different versions to choose from. Enjoy!

I gotta say, I'm pretty pumped for this album, especially since it's a concept/ish album!  It doesn't bother me that there are few tracks and that perhaps there are more than one instrumental.  As much as I like JLB as a vocalist, my main draw to DT has always been the instrumental parts.  I can't wait to get it on release day and listen to it front to back with some good headphones and my eyes closed; taking it all in.

illusionist

Noxon, when are the reviews starting to come out, any idea?

noxon

Strictly speaking, Parasomnia doesn't have two instrumentals either. It has an overture and an interlude, and the interlude (while containing music) is more akin to the interludes of The Astonishing - just atmosphere...

Damn, we will never get another The Answer again.

So I think it's safe to say, no ballads on this record?

Wowzer I would not have guessed that. For some reason I thought it was the 8 string buzz saw  :lol

Thanks for all the info Noxon!  I think DT does really awesome power ballads, so I'm excited for this!

And knowing that there is an interlude means one less "song", it will probably add to the atmosphere, which will also be cool.

Jamesman42

Power ballad, like Another Day or something else? (assuming AD is a power ballad)

Well, I guess I can finally put to rest my head canon for that song: an instrumental with crazy tempo/key changes (and loads of 8-string guitar, of course).  :lol

I love power ballads, though, so this is certainly welcome news!

I'm imagining something similar to TSCO

I wonder if we'll be getting more lyrics from JM on this album and if so which song.

The title Bend The Clock makes me think of Transcending Time. Also curious as to The Shadow Man Incident, always cool to hear them do a new epic and the title is intriguing.

For the life of me, and I mean this question literally, not snarkily, I don't know how (or where) some of you get your "intuitions" about songs. They're titles. As far as I am concerned, I know the number of songs, and how long some of them are, and what some of them are called.  That's kind of it.  Having just gone through two bands' catalogues (to rate their songs) and refreshing on certain songs I wasn't familiar with, I can tell that with only rare exceptions "oh that title sounds like a crazy instrumental" or "that title sounds like a power ballad" are pure guesses. And I've already written that song lengths don't mean diddly squat as to what kind of song it is.

Zydar

Yeah, I've been so wrong before in the judging of song titles alone. For instance I thought Beneath The Surface would be a sinister metal song, but we got a ballad instead.

On the contrary, I thought Lost Not Forgotten was gonna be an emotional tribute ballad to someone who died...nope!

For me it's less "intuition" and more "hope/expectation" - like, there are certain things on a DT album that you can virtually always expect to hear, and then there are things I hope will be on the album. In this case, "Bend the Clock" just sounded like such an off-the-wall title that my first thought was that it must be a crazy instrumental piece where the tempo keeps shifting dramatically but smoothly (say, from 80 to 140 BPM in the space of a few bars) - the tempo shifts would represent a clock being "bent". It sounds like I was way off with that guess, but to me it's just part of the fun of anticipating a new album when I know little more about it than, as you said, the titles and lengths of the songs.

I'm sure there are quite a few people here who remember seeing the track listing for Train of Thought and thinking that it sounded like a Christian metal album based on nothing but the song titles - I mean, with titles like "This Dying Soul", "Endless Sacrifice", "Honor Thy Father", and "In the Name of God", what else could it have been?  :lol

wizard

Noxon, do you know if there will be one or two other songs, who will release before the release of the album? Do you know the title of each song and the date of this or those releases?

Yes, I know all of this. If I could tell you, you would already know...

emtee

Really hoping that this album will have that indefinable, timeless quality to it.

I will take a wild guess and say Midnight Messiah will be the next single.
As for the third one, not sure since the tracks are long, but could be either A Broken Man or Bend The Clock

wizard

I'm very curious to hear "The shadowman incident". Who's this shadowman?

What remained of a man after an incident, now only his shadow survives.

Or maybe it's a mindfuck of a nightmare and it won't make any sense whatsover, in the best possible way  :lol

My guess is that it is a reference to shadow people.  I was plagued by those when I was a young boy.

Zydar

It's that shadowy dude on the cover. That's all I got :lol
