Okay how many of us are there who HAVEN'T seen DT fam on a gig :lol

Quote from: ZirconBlue on November 26, 2024, 10:48:26 AMI would not recognize any of the family members unless they were wearing nametags.
I can understand the wives, but you'd definitely immediately figure out who Max is if you saw him in a DT context:

Quote from: brakkum on November 26, 2024, 10:01:30 AMI saw Marlene at the hotel in London, and when I got to my seat at the O2 Rena walked past me. Wanted to tell them how much they rocked opening for JP a couple years ago, but seems like there might be turmoil in Meanstreak lately, so didn't want to push it lol

Do tell.  I was blown away by them when I saw them.  I was looking forward to what I thought was a new release coming...

I saw this on instagram

So didn't wanna push it in case it was one of the DT wives and it was awkward  :lol

Under the right circumstances, it WOULD be sort of funny if Marlene left...

(Not trying to start shit, and I don't know what happened, so if someone is sick or something like that, I'm not trying to be inconsiderate; it's just the first thing I thought of when I read that... In any event, I'm a new fan; I loved them opening for John and wish them all the best.)

Sucks. Get Mike Mangini.

Marlene doesn't play drums in Meanstreak, though. Or did you really mean to bring up Mangini's guitar skills?  :lol

Regarding setlist discussions and branding it 40th year anniversary tour.
I saw the (spectular) show in Frankfurt and my two cents about minor changes for the current setlist would be:

1. Start with Overture and leave out Metropolis
I loved seing it live again after the images anniversary tour. However it is a hard song for James to start and we also got two other songs from the album. A start with the Overture also works great. MP did it with his shattered fortress tour If I remember correctly.

2. instead include ytse jam in the first set to bring back the probably most well known song from the first album. This would also mean another instrumental as a deserved rest for James. I think it would also be a ,,sneaky" gesture to Dominici to have the represented song WDADU to be the one without the singer :(

3. include Transcending time
Not sure which song to a swap it with, however this would mean giving hommage to maybe their biggest musical root Rush. Also this would mean a third MM song and I think MP would absolutely nail that one and he probably would have a lot of fun playing it!

4. (maybe) add Our New World at one of the encore slots
Short, uplifting song, I would say rather easy for James and a 4th MM song.

With that all 4 MM albums would be presented and it would be less tiring for James

PS: I am not a new member, but also not a frequent poster  ;D

I think it was just a "Mangini replacing Portnoy" joke. Nothing more.

As for me, I have only seen DT with MP twice, once at Gigantour and when they opened for Iron Maiden. This setlist is excellent and one I really want to see. Metropolis opening is a great choice for the big curtain drop.

I am also thinking that since they're playing all these "hit" songs on this tour, I am expecting the Parasomnia tour to not include these "hit" songs.

If this kid was standing next to me at a concert, I would never look at him and say, 'shit, I think that's MP's son.'  Not in a million years.

We actually stood right next to Marlene and she was holding baby Max in 1997.

Quote from: wkiml on June 08, 2012, 09:06:35 AMwould have thought the same thing but seeing the OP was TAC i immediately thought Maiden or DT related

Except we haven't got anything from the self-titled album, which MM also played on. We need 5 to represent them all.

I haven't seen any of them at a DT cocert.
Given that I have mostly seen them in Stockholm though I guess it's not surprising.
I saw Max opening for Mike on the Shattered Fortress tour but I guess that does not count.

TheHoveringSojourn808

One time I met Mike Portnoy at an Opeth concert. The last time I saw DT with MP I also met MP's cousin. I didn't know who they were on sight, of course, but that's what they told me.

Well. Falling In Reverse, Till Lindemann (solo) are before DT? I don't even know what Powerwolf is... Headlines are good but the poster needs a rework.

No idea about Falling in Reverse. Lindemann is still the singer of Rammstein so he has a lot of "value" for festivals. Powerwolf are a german power metal band whose imaginery centers around werewolves, vampires and the silliest cliches of the darkest side of power metal while being surprisingly good and catchy, they put on a killer and fun show and they don't take themselves too seriously. Dunno if they deserve top billing but that's the reality, they're a great live act, they have all the toys (pyros, costumes...) and they will be, at least in Europe, some of the biggest bands in the coming years.

You posted almost exactly what I posted on FB when I saw the billing. I mean I can understand why Maiden, Slipknot and Korn get top billing even tho I can't stand the latter two, but Falling in Reverse, Till Lindemann solo and Powerwolf (who I had almost never heard of before) getting higher billing than DT and Savatage?

That whole tier of KD, DT, Savatage and In Flames below all three of those bands above them is damn criminal.

I mean it could just be that those bands are bigger in Belgium. There are a few bands I follow here that get shit billing in the states but a lot higher billing overseas because they have a bigger following.
