the lettering is so nice here too, crime story esque (well, it's a murder mystery so it makes sense), this would have made sense on the album cover too IMHO
All my natural instincts are begging me to stop
But somehow I carry on, heading for the top
A physical absurdity, a tremendous mental game
Helping me understand exactly who I am

An almost five-hour marathon of digesting a walkthrough. One must be either a geek or lunatic to dive in.

Which totally qualifies me. After the nearly eight-hour marathon of The Astonishing, this should be easy.

I've digested the whole Scenes-walkthrough from Orullian. Does anyone need to go through to enjoy either the album or the novel? Surely not. But was it worth the time for me? It certainly was.

Orullian is first and far most, a fan. Just a fan who happens to love Scenes from a Memory. He mentioned he listened to it at least 150 times during the writing sessions of the novel. He had these zoom-meetings with Petrucci to intertwine his original thoughts with the direction of the novel. And I happen to like the novel a lot. I love the way he gave expressions, motifs and emotions to people who - on the album - were just names. Or not even a name, but only short-lyric-notion, like "I've got a wife, I've got a son." Orullians expend on those ideas and gave these thoughts a heart.

In the walkthrough he explains all that. Who they where and why he chose the directions he chose. And in the middle of all that, he sits there with his fan-material, just being a fan. And I love those both sides. I really think he did a marvelous job on the novel and this walkthrough highlighted some of the ideas I wasn't aware of, or was forgotten all about. He also explained some of the easter eggs to relate this to The Astonishing and reflecting on the huge environment of Metropolis. You get to know so much more of the characters, Nick, Julian, Edward, Victoria and the therapist.

You can really feel Orullians emphatic relationship with these people. I love this part.

So if you are like a geek as I am, listening and digesting the Scenes-experience as huge as it can be, this walkthrough is definitely worth the time. But if you like to stick to the original conceptual music alone, then don't waste your time on this walkthrough.

I would have expected a lot of that from him.

I just hope I enjoy his actual writing in this novel more than I did with The Astonishing.

Just finished reading this. I thought for the most part, it was remarkably enjoyable, but the last chapters rush to a close rather quickly, and left some strange plot threads hanging (Billy?).

Overall, I would recommend for any fan that enjoys reading.

I haven't read it yet, but my kid commandeered my copy to read first, and they said they had to quit and make it a DNF due to the writing style.

Which, having read The Astonishing, I didn't find surprising.  But I will still attempt it at some point this year.
