Hey DT fans, I want to wish you a happy holiday and a happy new year. I was wondering what would be the "Ultimate DT Setlist" that would be played on their last ever concert before retiring. So after brainstorming I came up with a suggested setlist that would turn out to be epic and a grand finale to their lustrous career and discography. However, the setlist is a bit unrealistic as it is extremely long and is composed of 5 acts, or 4 acts and 1 encore and some songs would be played usually in different acts as seen by the previous concerts. But hypothetically, if this was the setlist for their last ever concert, what would be your reaction ?
Act 1:
Metropolis Pt1.
Ouverture 1928- Strange Deja Vu
Home
Dance of Eternity
Panic Attack

Act 2:
The Enemy Inside
Rite of Passage
Best 2 hits of Parasomnia (most probably Nigh Terror and another song)
In the Presence of Enemies Pt.1
Pale Blue Dot
Breaking All Illusions
Barstool Warrior
Hollow Years

Act3:
6:00
Voices
Ytse Jam
12-Step Suite:
End of Finally Free into the Glass Prison
This Dying Soul
The Root of all Evil
Repentance
The Shattered Fortress

Act 4:
6 Degrees of Inner Turbulence Song
As I Am
Vacant
Stream of Consciousness
Octavarium

Final Act:
Wait for Sleep
This is The Life
The Count of Tuscany
Best of Times
Space-Dye Vest
The Spirit Carries On
Pull Me Under.

My first reaction would be to ask for the thread to be transferred to the Dream Theater section of the forum

Why bother thinking about it 10 years and 2-3 albums too early? There could be a lot of classics yet to be written.

I would call 911 for the band members all collapsing on stage.

Yeah, I've only just properly looked at that setlist and... as much as I love seeing them live, I sometimes struggle (attention-wise) towards the end of a 2h45m show. Seeing that setlist live would kill me, never mind the band.

BeatriceNB

The Enemy Inside, Pale Blue Dot, Breaking All Illusions and Barstool Warrior? Is Mangini joining in for a few songs? :lol (would be cool, though, if unlikely)

macneil

It would need to be split over 2 nights I would say, as much as I love Dream Theater I'm not sure I could make it through a 5+ hour concert  :lol

I actually think the current tour setlist is a pretty great "ultimate" setlist, you could then have a 2nd night to play stuff from the albums that were missed as well as some more deep cuts/B-sides. There will also be more songs/albums written in the future. Even then DT have so much material that some great stuff would be missed.

Your setlist certainly covers a lot of the necessary ground though, my only personal preference is any ultimate setlist should include A Change of Seasons.

TAC

TheOutlawXanadu

Is the point of this to celebrate the band or murder them? :lol

Valid question

JLa

As long as they open the show with "A Fortune in Lies", end with "The Shadow Man Incident" and play every other song of theirs inbetween those two, I'm good.

ReaPsTA

At least James will be singing "Trapped inside this Octavarium" with conviction.

I am in the opinion that more DT Mangini Songs should be played in their usual 3 hour setlist, around 3 to 4.

. That is a good idea if Parasomnia was their last ever album.

I think the implication is that the parts in those songs would be quite a challenge for MP to execute, at least in their original form. I assume at the very least BAI will be brought out again before the guys call it a day, in which case I anticipate MP creating his own interpretation as he did with the drumming in BW.
