Quote from: Skeever on November 24, 2024, 03:04:31 PMBy all accounts the Paris show was a great performance, so we can look forward to a great concert film later on. Even James, who I've heard was way more on than off.

Yeah, for sure. He's pretty much where I was 'hoping' he would be..."pretty darn amazing...for his age"

Very, very happy he's made some adjustments and opted to deliver the songs in a way that is sustainable night in and night out.

That all said, it sounds like his overall pitch was wayyyyy more on for these past few shows (Paris included)...it's kinda like something just clicked.

Quote from: Wim Kruithof on November 24, 2024, 04:03:34 PMTotally agree. Was in golden circle and this was by far the best gig of all I've ever seen of them. LaBrie delivered all his phrases beautifully.

I was in GC as well, and it was easy to get a good view. Great sound as well. I was there alone (my first DT show alone since Progressive Nation '09 - which was the last time I saw DT with Portnoy). Just absolutely stellar and inspiring concert.

Quote from: TAC on November 24, 2024, 09:58:25 AMnot everyone has Netflix.

I'm willing to bet more people (at least in the United States) have Netflix than blu-ray players or record players. Yet it isn't questioned when they put a live release on blu-ray or print the new album on vinyl.

For the record I HAVE a blu-ray player. I just haven't used it in probably 3 years. I don't know anyone (like personally and not just from the internet) that buys blu-rays anymore.

I'm glad everyone is coming around on JLB. He's going to continue crushing it!!

Quote from: WilliamMunny on November 24, 2024, 12:12:16 PMI've done some perusing and I just say I'm freaking impressed.

I was one of the loudest detractors, but based on the raw content out there, let's just say James had a really good night (imo)

The best, by far, I've heard some of these songs sound in years (and that includes Metropolis)

Yeah, I behaved and only got a tiny bit of Pull Me Under (together with the climax of Stream), and James almost nailed the sparrow part. The other recordings I've seen seem to back up the feeling I had live that he was on pitch waaaaay more than he was off. Bravo, James, bravo.

Also good to have yet further proof that mobile phone recordings don't change pitch ;) :lol

New York next for me. Thinking when I get home later that I'll also get tickets for Sicily. Be amazing to see them in such an incredible setting.

How was meeting the band?

Progmaniac1988

Gotta say after hearing clips of Paris I cannot wait for this dvd release! The band sounded great, and James sounded the best I've heard overall on the last few tours put together. I'm so happy he  seems to be improving every show!

MP is definitely getting more comfortable back in the fold too. I'd also say Paris was his best I've heard of the clips this tour. He seems to have more nuance, and his bass drum playing was tighter and more similar to the albums.

Just my 2 cents! Looking forward to a complete release.

Thank you for asking. For weeks I was like a teenage girl who had a meet & greet with Taylor Swift...

and the guys blew me away. Next to being extremely gifted with their instruments, they still are so down to earth and easy going. They made it feel like they had a great time to. These men are something special.

Place looked PACKED for the filmed show and lots of phones lit up during a certain song. Heartwarming!

Did you ask any questions? Who was the gezelligste of them all?

I did. I thought a thousand times what to say at the given moment, but decided to write it down in a letter. I went to Petrucci and handed it over and said I truly hoped it would meet their eyes somewhere, somehow. Petrucci was overwhelmed and said they absolutely would read it.

But the 'gezelligste' without a doubt was Portnoy, smiling and joking.

I have to say last night was one of the best nights of my life. Seeing MP back is just surreal, the setlist was just filled with absolute favorites. Everything flowed so organically.

For those talking about releasing the concert on a streaming service - it's happened before.  Live at Luna Park is on the Roku Channel, and has been for some time (unless recently removed).

They should totally try to get it on a streaming app.  That would be a fantastic move.

I doubt it happens.
Quote from: BlobVanDam on December 11, 2014, 08:19:46 PMHef is right on all things. Except for when I disagree with him. In which case he's probably still right.

Pastor of Muppets

I know we're not allowed to post links, but I did watch the full Paris show. I don't know if it's because he knew it was being filmed for an official release, but James sounded more powerful and confident than other shows, at least, to my ears. Still a little pitchy here and there, but not too bad. Rest of the guys sounded great, as usual. Petrucci made a few mistakes on several of the solos, but nothing major. Solid performance overall.

That was my takeaway as well. I suspect both will 'touch up' a few things here and there, but assuming it mixes down as well as I'm expecting, I think I will enjoy this show way more than Distant Memories.

TheOutlawXanadu

It's actually kind of cool that even Petrucci can flub stuff up. Probably not cool for him in the moment or even the audience, but it's a good reminder that even a God among us isn't perfect, so you don't need to be either. :lol

Maybe James will bring them all on a journey back home to Canada where he can introduce them to his family

"Let me introduce.... my brother!".

Forgot to mention that after the intermission I got back and sought out a nice new spot to watch the rest of the show. I accidentally put my foot on someone else's foot and that actually happened to be MP's wife (I don't know her name right now). She was together with Rena Petrucci and they were rocking out in their DT shirts, totally undercover as fans.

Marlene

We saw Rena and kids at the Albany show during Images 25th anniversary tour.

And I was behind them at the Score show :lol Melody was standing on her chair and wearing pink earmuffs.

Amsterdam was a great show too. Really enjoyed it. Managed to get a great audio recording from the Golden Circle area.

I was actually in front of JP's family at the Score show. There were a few times I thought JP was making eye contact with me since I know him personally, but come to find out, he was looking at his family behind me.  :lol
Quote from: BlobVanDam on November 13, 2015, 07:37:14 PMAs a basic rule, if you hate it, you must solely blame Portnoy. If it's good, then you must downplay MP's contribution to the band as not being important anyway, or claim he's just lying. It's the DTF way.
Quote from: TAC on July 10, 2024, 08:26:41 AMPOW is awesome! :P

Marlene, Max and Melody were at my first DT show in Philly. Max's earmuffs were I think bigger than him. :)

Just last year I was sitting a few rows behind MP, Marlene and Melody watching Max play drums for Code Orange. Always cool to see the family out supporting each other.

frogprog

Ive spoken with Max and Marlene a handful of times and they were always very engaged and super nice. I have a great picture of me and a younger Max at a Next To None show. He thanked me for supporting the band and called me Sir😆

brakkum

I saw Marlene at the hotel in London, and when I got to my seat at the O2 Rena walked past me. Wanted to tell them how much they rocked opening for JP a couple years ago, but seems like there might be turmoil in Meanstreak lately, so didn't want to push it lol

ZirconBlue

I would not recognize any of the family members unless they were wearing nametags.
