Quote from: JiM-Xtreme on November 23, 2024, 09:40:21 AMSo, what odds are we putting on any setlist changes tonight?

I mean, I'm sure it would have occurred to MP that UAGM and 8V were both on the "last" Score DVD... any chance they may sub anything out?

Because those songs were on a live album 20 years ago? No, they're not subbing anything out.

I'm here.

James sounds magnitudes of order better than he did in London. They're milking MP's return more, too :rollin JP seriously flubbed the first two notes of the big Hollow Years solo, making it sound like I was playing it (it'll no doubt get corrected!). No big screens. Up and down cameras on both sides of the stage. No out over the crowd camera. Setlist the same, of course.

Oh, we're at half time.

Not bad so far for a 25th show

nobloodyname

What the fuck? Most of the French crowd has suddenly sat down during Jordan's intro to 8V

Shocking  Still, they all stood up once it was over so not all bad.

Good show.

Fascinated to see how James sounds on unfiltered recordings.

Videos are on youtube from tonight.

Not sure if it's ok to post links, but they are out there already.

I just watched Home and Night Terror from Paris.

It's is probably because the show is recorded but James sang them with such power unlike other shows. It's true that James is getting better while tour is going but that night seemed posivitely different. So good to see him confident and powerful.

Quote from: WilliamMunny on November 23, 2024, 03:40:54 PMWhat was your take?

Honestly, he sounded better tonight than I've heard him for a long, long time. And that's coming from someone who's heard him sounding rough from about about 2007 onwards. He appeared to be having such a good night that I deliberately filmed the 'watch the sparrow falling' part of Pull Me Under, just to see how it'd sound on replay. I've not had the chance to watch it back yet. But there are a couple of recordings of Night Terror out there already and he sounds pretty good (admittedly well within his range but we're also talking about someone who simply couldn't sing in tune for much of the show in the last 15 years).

Anyway, whatever he's doing at the moment, whether it's his new vocal coach combined with some of the altered, lower melodies, it appears to be paying dividends. In the room at least, he was much better tonight than in London. As I said, I am fascinated to hear whether the mobile recordings reflect that.

Regardless, I am absolutely delighted for him.

TheBarstoolWarrior

I'll be interested to compare the release and the bootleg but glad to hear it was a great show!

Is that all YouTube links or just for the Paris show? I've seen a ton of links to live videos throughout this thread so I'm surprised if it's links in general.

Was it extended like it was on SCORE? If so, that's like 8.5 minutes of the lowest stage energy possible. I don't blame them. I'm going to take that time to use the bathroom before the show gets out.

I know it's a pipe dream, but I'd love if, instead of releasing this as a physical product which seemingly few buy anymore, they recorded this to put on a streaming network like Netflix, which could potentially bring in new fans if promoted enough by Netflix (a band with an over 30-year history now since their "hit" that has won a Grammy is not a bad selling point to Netflix).  Again, I think it's a pipe dream since I think the band is still likely stuck in that old school way of thinking.

Kyo

Why would this have to be an either/or situation? Just do both.

MirrorMask

DT are a big fish in a small pond, whichever streaming service would pay them XX $ for the streaming rights won't even think of it without the reasonable certainty that they could get more $ in return...

That seems unrealistic, as they might feel like they'd be losing potential phsysical release sales to existing fans who would likely buy the physical release, but already pay for Netflix and then just figure, "I'll just watch it for free on Netflix."  Sure, there are always purists who want to own the physical product of everything the band releases, but I don't think there are many who don't fall in that camp.  I almost never buy it anymore, so the odds of me buying a physical release of this DT show are slim to none, but I will absolutely watch it if it ends up on streaming.  That's just me, though.

Streaming could result in new fans who then buy/stream the new album when it comes out early next year and then go to a concert from the tour dates still to come in later 2025.  Sometimes, you have to give a little now for the hope of getting more later.

TheBarstoolWarrior

Recently BEAT streamed a live video and charged for it. Granted it was aimed at people who couldn't attend because they didn't go outside the US.

Trav

I think they will focus on a physical release because a large part of their audience still uses that. I don't, and I would be happy just having the option to buy a digital copy on Prime or YouTube, it doesn't have to be an exclusive deal. So far, Live at Luna Park is the only one like that. I pulled an old Blu-ray player out of storage just to watch Distant Memories a couple of times after it was released, and that's it.

I agree with you Kev, I think having them put the show on a streaming platform would be a great play.

While I am all about physical product and against streaming, I know I'm in the minority, but why would it be unrealistic to do both? After all, DT's albums are always on various streaming services when they're released, but they also sell physical versions of the albums as well. Can't see why this would be any different, TBH.
Quote from: BlobVanDam on November 13, 2015, 07:37:14 PMAs a basic rule, if you hate it, you must solely blame Portnoy. If it's good, then you must downplay MP's contribution to the band as not being important anyway, or claim he's just lying. It's the DTF way.

I've been thinking the same for a few days...
the only difference is that, for some reason, I thought Prime would be a more realistic platform as there you can also buy the product. But I'm almost 100% sure the guys are thinking about some digital output

DragonAttack

They could always offer one hour for streaming, and then advertise the complete show hard copy with occasional snipes throughout.  Also, mess with the order, showing PMU midway through, with 'As I Am' as the final song.  You know, butcher the order, like CBS did when they aired Billy Joel's final MSG concert. ;)

I am not a fan of the whole "hey, you have to buy something from a streaming platform you are already paying for" nonsense.  I have Prime, but if I see anything on there that costs more to watch, I don't.

I've done some perusing and I just say I'm freaking impressed.

I was one of the loudest detractors, but based on the raw content out there, let's just say James had a really good night (imo)

The best, by far, I've heard some of these songs sound in years (and that includes Metropolis)

As for everyone else, MP really pushed the tempo on some of these songs... the adrenaline was definitely flowing :metal

Obviously, anything more specific is spoiler-use, but if/when this show becomes a live release, I for one will be a day-one buyer!

Definitely happy I got tickets for 2025

Ok, good to know. Your behavior is not necessarily representative of everyone's though, and in fact, many people purchase contents that are not included in their Prime Video subscription. For this reason, although I have no evidence to support my idea, I would assume  it might be easier for a band to make its content available there than on Netflix.
Anyway yeah, digital it's quite a must these days.

PixelDream

Holy moly the show tonight was unreal, I could not ask for more. They were as amazing as always to be honest. The fire is burning and the entire band is just dialed in so well. The way James sang Vacant, Octavarium, just stellar. Even Metropolis sounded quite alright.

The crowd absolutely loved it all and there was a magical atmosphere in the room tonight.

Skeever

By all accounts the Paris show was a great performance, so we can look forward to a great concert film later on. Even James, who I've heard was way more on than off.

Totally agree. Was in golden circle and this was by far the best gig of all I've ever seen of them. LaBrie delivered all his phrases beautifully.
